No lobbies, what were you thinking?

(Zelltre) #121

First off, I’d like to say that the warm-up thing is a cool, OLD(uhh Quake/UT anybody? Hell even Saints Row had it) idea(honestly I have nothing against it…it’s solid and unless you take the time to actually take it all in, you won’t fully understand it), however, the presence of a traditional lobby/party system is VERY much needed. A lobby allows you to gather your party(be it for matchmaking or private games) and then dive right into the game at your own will, and then STICK TOGETHER. The fireteam allows you to stay with others, but I shouldn’t have to join a game to stick with my friends. We should all join the same game at the same time because we were in a party. How nobody feels this isn’t a huge issue baffles me.

What is the point of releasing a multiplayer based game, with co-op elements, if I can’t even party up with friends and search matchmaking? In order for me to play optimatch/matchmaking/public playlist games with friends I have to find one and hope to the Based God it has enough open spots for friends. That’s so not a good look for a new release(or in a multiplayer based game in general). I spent a good 15 minutes joining games so I can play with just 2 other friends of mine…That’s is stupid and if anybody doesn’t see WHY that is such a HUGE deal…I mean…come on. It’s in black and white.

A lobby/party system is needed because it helps streamline the experience. There’s a reason why games like Halo and Call of Duty rule the console market(and not only cause of their simplicity/ease gameplay wise). It’s because you can hop online, invite your friends, and within SECONDS, you are off searching matchmaking and being pitted up against other players(and potentially parties) without ANY HASSLE. It finds a game you AND your friend can join, and puts you right in.

Releasing a multiplayer based game on console with no party function is just backwards. It’s good on PC because they have more control of that, but on consoles it sucks.

Brink is a dope game, I am having fun with it…but if people can’t play with their friends(casual or competitive)…people won’t keep it for long. I would hate to see an innovative game like this fail among consoles because devs underestimated the need of a lobby/party system.

And like I said, the warm-up thing is cool…but try finding a 5v5 with 4 other friends through the warm-up…Strictly from a casual standpoint, a party system is needed. Not to mention on the competitive level? Oh man is it ever so mandatory!

I just wanna be able to game with friends without wasting all this time searching and backing out of rooms. If you are a console gamer and can’t understand that, I honestly don’t know what you’re paying 50 a year on XBL for…

Also: To all MLG/GB peeps, the warm-up lobby is “possibly” good for GB and all because you can “possibly” have lag tests before the game even starts.

So splash damage…we need a party system so we can fully enjoy this product with friends, without wasting 5-10 minutes hoping to find games with enough spots. Fix that or Brink will meet a very fast demise.

I’ve got quite a few people on my friends list who have already decided to set aside Brink until the lobby system happens. As fun as the game is, if I can’t bring my friends to play with me it does me no good. I don’t wanna have to join and leave several games on the hope the next one will let us play together, especially when I could just pop in BC2 or COD and play with my friends there.

This is one of the most fun and frantic games I’ve played in a long while, but I would much rather play something else with my friends than enjoy Brink solo.

This is still going to be a problem. We console players NEED a lobby system, it would make the game so much easier for people who want to play both casually and competitively.

We want a player lobby system, Splash Damage.

Please do it.

Thank you.

I noticed that you can only move around in warmup if you chose the “competitive” rule set at the beginning of a freeplay game.

I have yet to discover how to enable this feature on a private match.

playing on the 360

Every PC game from now on, including Brink needs to adapt Heroes of Newerth’s pug(lobby) system.
For example one cool thing about it is, you can tick the “private game” box and invite players. Once your friends are in, you can un-tick the “private game” box and the game will be open to the public.

You can then proceed to pubstomp. Also:

YOU CAN HAVE A LOBBY SYSTEM WITH DEDICATED SERVERS! DOES NOT HAVE TO BE P2P!

Bumping this.

I don’t have the game yet but this is a good enough reason to keep me and a lot of my friends from buying it.

Unless, of course, you’re on a tighter budget.

I’m a poor college student. If I wanted to go competitive, I would certainly choose the cheaper FPS arena.

Im a college student too and when i drop $60, i really feel it. I had been saving up for a month to get Brink just to find out playing online is a total crap shoot, AND that there is no way for me to easily team up with my buddies. Instead, 1 of us try to get into a match without lag, THEN we wait for openings on a team so MOST, never all, can get on the same team.

I wouldn’t be angry if Brink wasn’t trying to sell the whole teamwork thing. But thats just it, they talked about how this game was going to be all about teamwork, then they leave us with…well…this.

On a positive note, because i haven’t been able to play Brink online, I have had plenty of time to study.

PC gaming is dying. Its funny to watch people sit in denial and act like it dominates the market. As a publisher you need to cater to the market in which you will sell the most product, which is consoles, and will always be consoles. Sorry buddy.

Add me to the list, there needs to be some kind of a “party lobby” so me and my mates can easily move around from one game mode/map with some continuity. I don’t care if there is a lobby for a game per se, just something where I can see my party and keep them together for games rather than constantly inviting them. I LOVE this game, I really do. With the lobby and of course the lag fixes, this game will be perfect.

Guys, there’s no reason for PC vs 360 flame wars. All that needs to be posted is that this game needs lobby systems, and updates for the 360. Now that the PC update has happened, I would hope SD would announce their next 360 update.

SC2 and LoL are only a few of the major PC titles in competitive play…so I don’t know what the hell you’re smoking.
