No lobbies, what were you thinking?

Allowed.

Also, did this issue really need two threads? Believe us when we say that Splash Damage has been making games with competitive gamers in mind since the 90s. They know what they’re doing and I will bet cash money that they’ve implemented a way to organize matches between predetermined teams.

cool…

add people talking nonsense to your ignore list. I perfectly understand what you guys are talking about and I have no idea why pc players or console players that arent into playing competitively are chiming in. There’s a console comp scene on sites like gamebattles.com. Since splashdamage did say they were supporting the comp scene and didnt say it was for pc only, your concern is very much warranted.

Hopefully you’ll get an answer soon enough.
You missed the point of a lobby entirely. Their main purpose is to set up your team prior to the game. Without them it’s near impossible on the console.

Pretty important for both casual and competitive players.
My understanding is that it is possible to setup a team prior to playing. You select a map/gametype, then invite friends, then hit search yeah?

ClarK, send me a FR at LDeadEye

Jess, just because someone owns a console doesn’t mean they’re not competitive. While most console games are ridiculously easy and give console gamers a bad reputation, not all of us like dumbed-down games that are so easy a caveman could do it. Have you ever heard of Shadowrun for 360/PC? Give that game a look and tell me you can’t be competitive and play on 360. Hell I played SR AGAINST some of the best PC players on SR and beat them, even though PC players had a huge advantage in the game due to the natural superiority of the PC.

Because I played SR I kind of understand the superiority complex that PC gamers have over console gamers, because I feel the same superiority after placing an actual competitive and skill based game for 3 years while most console kids play CoD and Halo series. However, it would be nice if all of you PC people didn’t troll our threads so much. We’re worried about something that could possibly hurt the game in our community, if you don’t have any input to help then can you please go away?

The warm-up portion of the game is cool I guess, but until it’s tested out in competitive private matches there’s no way to tell if it’ll work or just completely fail.

(Droid) #66

You are possibly one of the most thickheaded PC gamers I have seen. You are part of that elitist attitude that thinks that a competitive console shooter cannot exist. It can, there have been a few, such as Halo: Combat Evolved and Shadowrun. (inb4 “they’re not competitive durr hurr”)

Think of it this way, imagine if in Brink, they removed the server list, and all you could do was click on “Find me a game” and it would give you a random game that you can’t choose. And imagine that your uber leet competitive team buddies wanted to play with you, but they joined and were forced to play on the other team. That is what we are dealing with. What we, as competitive console gamers, want is the basic necessity to play private matches with ease.

Now, what you can do is take your sorry ass and go back to your own competitive PC elitist circle jerk and stroke off your fellow PC cohorts, because what you want is obviously not what is best for this game.

(Mr. Magikarp) #67

What’s wrong with Halo?

(Chili Squirts) #68
Owning your own server > Lobbies. That’s why the competitive community uses this model. What are you talking about?

Edit: Oh! Console competitive players? Those exist? Seems like an oxymoron to me. Anybody who is actually dedicated to FPSs to the degree to call themselves competitive would own a PC yeah?
Except the people who don’t like PC gaming? Or just don’t feel like spending that much money?

In Brink the lobby is IN-GAME !
Classes and Weapons can be customized before and during game, the only thing we can’t customized during or before the round starts are the body type and the cloths)
Brink’s Lobby is between the cut scene and the beginning of the round. In Brinks Lobby people can walk around as they were already playing the map but the round hasn’t started yet and all players can select their weapons and roles (classes).
Brink’s lobby is also known as WARM-UP.

or

people actually want to be restricted to just be able to select roles and gear up before the game starts?!?!?!
Recently so many threads look like console gamers want to be in the past… why not disable VOIP, why not have custom button remapping or why not an in-game lobby?? etc

(Nayr) #70

He was referring to the more recent ones. Halo 1 and 2 were fine. 3 was bearable and Reach is well… Reach.

That’s cool, thanks for the info.

How is custom button remapping living in the past though? Seems like a feature very few games deliver on consoles yet is really nice when it’s done. Bioshock 2 had it, was amazing.

We’d still like some sort of lobby or way to form a party to search public matches as well. If the firesquad feature does that efficiently then awesome.

(DeadEye) #71

Nothing if you’re talking about Halo 1. Halo 1 was an amazing game for it’s time, and could be re-released now for XBL and be a big title AGAIN. After Halo 1 they decided to make the game easier and easier while being dumber and dumber, it increased sales but decreased the skill gap in the game. Personally I would rather play skill based shooters with a small community than popular bad shooters, which is why I had high hopes for Brink. Everything in the game looks amazing, but the few complaints I’ve heard so far worry me.

There have been plenty of competitive console games, not sure what you’re getting at with that post.
Can’t say I understand where he is coming from either. I’ve played clan matches on xbox and xbox360 on practically every fps from RS3 to GoW.

(ClarK) #73

Nothing separates the men from the boys in series’ such as COD or Halo.

Edit: The later Halos

When games are played for bragging rights, tournaments, matches, etc… things need to go as smoothly as possible. If I get 7/8 people into a room but the last person can’t join before the warm-up period stops, what’s to stop the full team from keeping the game going and saying ‘too bad’. This warm-up thing could work out perfectly and be the ‘next big thing’, but for now it’s worrying and could be trouble for the competitive 360 community.

It could work out great, but it could be buggy. That’s the problem we’re seeing… A lobby system that allows all players to get into a room, see eachother’s GTs, talk to eachother, talk about the match and settings… BEFORE the game starts up is the ideal situation, and it would make it even better if AFTER the game is started a warm-up time is given.

First off… Shadow run lags PC players so that you can actually keep up with them. Look up any article about Shadowrun PC vs 360 and you’ll learn that quick. So if that lag was gone the average PC gamer would destroy you because a mouse kills a thumbstick.

Second off… I am a console owner and I play constantly. I just don’t take myself too seriously or let my performance in a video game seriously effect my self worth. Because it’s a freaking video game. So I’m not a “PC person”. I’m a Xbox owner who understand that a keyboard and mouse combo will destroy my controller any day of the week. And I’m not in denial about the graphical performance or abilities of my console. I also realize that we as console owners get raped by huge companies because we don’t demand the standards of quality that PC gamers ask for. If we asked for WAY more then the PC gamers wouldn’t end up with such a crap end product.

All I see in this thread is a bunch of console gamers waiting until NOW to demand standards that are given to PC gamers because they demand it for themselves and build it themselves.

You can’t complain at Splash Damage. You need to complain to Microsoft and Sony. And tell them to make networking more accessible because in the end it’s the limitations that their networks have that cause short comings in YOUR videos games that you know and love. Tell XBL live that you’d rather have better networking support and built in LOBBIES instead of stupid promo videos and other stupid media crap.

PC players have all the cool things they have because they build it with their own freaking hands.

I know my situation console side will never improve because consumers will never direct their rage in the correct direction.

Competitive… on console…

I literally just repeatedly stabbed myself with a pen to finally stop laughing, after nearly an hour of non-stop laughing.

(NuMbzZz) #78

it would be nice if a dev can just come and confirm if there is a party system in the game where we can grp up BEFORE the match starts then search for a game cuz so far all they said on fireteams is that its automatically created when ur friend joins a game or u invite someone in game to join ur fireteam
