Anyone who wants to talk about the proposed race/gender customization feature, or do anything else that can be considered flaming can do it here.
Personally i think it’s an essential feature. I’m tired of being disenfranchised by being forced to play as someone else’s race and sex.
Like I said before, it can’t be that hard to slap breasts on a model and record a new voiceover. Anything less than that and you’re just not trying hard enough.
I have nothing against you.
But why are you so hell-bent on making the devs do what you want? It is their game. You are the consumer. You like it, you buy it. If not, go away.
If you really want to have a say in the direction of the game, buy over SD.
If you think “it can’t be that hard to slap breasts on a model and record a new voiceover.”, then do it yourself as a mod. Nobody is going to stop you.
Last but not least, nobody really cares about having “race/gender customization” because it does not contribute to gameplay. Just some eye-candy which adds unnecessary system and network load.

you can’t see your self in game, why care, or is it that you just want everyone else to know your race/sex ? Personally, I don’t care, you’re just an animation on screen, be or pretend to be anything you want, I’m still going to shoot you
this whole race/gender requesting makes me think that it’s all about getting women of different races into the game. i wonder why :uhoh: come on dude, admit it, it’s ok, everyone has their fetish
Generating several new sets of art assets is actually a very significant task. If you don’t believe me, try making a complete, skinned, animated player model of et:qw quality yourself, and report back :lol: If you “just slap it on” it ends up looking like crap.
Having multiple models and voice sets also adds to the resource requirements of the game. This can be a big factor, both for distribution and performance. To do a new set of voice chats (or several, since you probably want accents or even other languages to go with your different races) requires paying for voice talent.
I think customizable characters (like oblivion, for example) would be extremely cool, but it ultimately doesn’t add much gameplay value. All software development is tradeoffs, and I can certainly understand the devs choosing to use single set of models/voices.
Nothing is free. Implementing your feature means that some other feature gets cut, or less time is spent on bugs or game balance. You can’t arbitrarily extend the schedule.

I bet he had the nude Elites skin pack for RTCW. I think he just wants to steal their uniform to see what’s underneath. Maybe there should be a Hot Coffee mod in there as well, i mean there’s nothing more exciting than the thought of a strapping GDF marine getting it on with a hot stroggified big bertha beast. Someone get the polygon mop, i think i just made a mess of the command centre!
If playing a game makes you feel disenfranchised, then you have some issues that need resolving, a psychiatrist may be able to help you…
dunno where u r from, but a friend of mine was in ireland and he told me that they have a term called “sheep shagging” … so if you are irish … :moo:
i cant see this happpening. the players are all made with the intenetion of people easily being able to tell what class they are even from a distance. there is a lot of emphasis on this in the interviews, even giving unique classes animations to tell them apart
with that in mind there is no way there going to allow you to customize the uniform cos that would just mess eveything up and that leaves the face… what skin colour woud you like. face it most of the time the face will be too small on screen to make any differenace anyway. all you would do is masively increase the number of voice chats and thats suicidal if the memory usage is anyhting like ET

I replayed HL2 with the Alyx Nude Mod. It made me giggle. Giggling is fun.
As for sheep, that’s a worldwide insult. Scottish, Irish… everybody’s shaggin’ sheep. The neighborhood drunk where I grew up worked on a farm outside town and was rumored to have a fondness for the flock.

Why so much obsession with having different races or genders? Tbh I think it is “less racist” to don’t care at all of which race/gender someone is then to try to “positively discriminate” him, as it’s often done in the US (“please employ 30% black people, no matter how much better or worse they work than the rest of us, just so we don’t look racist old boy!”).

hey, i’m innocent, i never was in ireland, although i certainly would like to go there (because of the landscape, not because of the sheeps). i only repeat what i’ve heard from a friend who was in ireland: “the irish have a habit to go sheep shagging when they walk home drunken from a pub”
