New Website Design! (Bugs here please)

(imported_admin) #41

Thanks for taking the time to post the bugs and issues you’ve come across, keep 'em coming  I’ll start to address them over the next few days. I’ll also try and publish a list of all the bugs that have been mentioned, it should be a little easier to read than a 2/3 page thread

Once again, thanks for taking the time to post the problems you’ve come across.

Rudie

I hate to be negative, but the more I use the new forums, the more I hate them. The redesign of splashdamage.com’s front page is nice, a good way of getting info out (much more sensible, readability-wise, than the old version). The forums, however, have become hard to use… the login cookies not working, the various graphical hiccups, the difficult-to-read color scheme… I feel as if it’s a chore to read the pages now. The layout being shifted over an inch or two to the right really doesn’t help matters, either… Not to be a stick-in-the-mud, but what benefits came from the phpBB>PNphpBB switchover? Are they really worth it?

This just about sums up my sentiment as well. :frowning:

I just notied the same thing happens to me every time I re-visit the site.
Even though I have IE security settings for *.splashdamage.com set to full trust.

Btw, has someone tried to link to some external site in this thread ? I’m getting a message that I’m not allowed to access some Polish site when trying to opening this thread since today ?

I found that logging in on the main front page (not the forum page) let me stay logged in. Or maybe they just fixed it at the same time. YMMV

I agree with others:
light grey + white text = headache
big image on top and left = wasted space

I believe i’ve fixed the logging out problem. You might want to logout and try logging back in, with the “remember me” box checked.

let me know if you still keep having to keep logging back in. The other issues should be resolved over the weekend hopefully.

login in for me seems to be stable again for the moment… fingers crossed.

I know some of us are complaining a lot about the changes, and I do accept that a transitional period would include some tweaking and bug fixing …and without trying to sound totally ungrateful, as I`ve personally learnt a lot form the q3map2 forum, which I really do appreciate.

but if you do manage to sort out this mess, then great and good luck to you …but please in the future, do some private testing of new software, before subjecting your public users to it… that way, at least you can get it reasonably stable without disrupting your service too much and risking disapointing a lot of people.

I get stupid horizontal scroll bars on 800x600 (work machine). Come on guys, make it resizable. Yeah the graphics at the top look awsome but the logo area comming down the left side of the screen at the top of the page is just consuming realestate.
:moo:

First off, Rudie, thanks for getting me back up and running, was afraid I would have to ditch my usual handle to get logged in again.

I like the site overall, but have to get on the bandwagon, with reguards to the the black space on the left. Sure, the graphic up top is cool, but if the posts could just be pushed over a bit, to make them feel less awkward. Still kudos for the new design

(ratty redemption) #54

I`m finding after posting and clicking on the view our post link, the page goes to the top rather then the bottom where the last post would be, same for viewing the last post from the forum indexes, they just open the last page but at the top… please fix this.

Fixed - Rudie

Huzzah for layout tweaks! Looking good, looking good. Thanks for caring!

(Kendle) #56

Login is fixed for me too now, thanks.

(ratty redemption) #57

I agree, this is much better, thanx for listening to us

Parse error: parse error, unexpected ‘<’ in C:\Inetpub\www.splashdamage.com hemes\SplashDamage heme.php on line 163

I get that when i am reading posts

(ratty redemption) #59

sometimes when I visit the q3map2 forum it displays all the visited thread titles in the color Ive set in ie6, but other times it displays them in the unread color, and I havent cleared my history settings.

edit: I just noticed refreshing the page will show the visited link color, so np for me, but it would be cool if you could fix this.

Ah, FINALLY back after some problems with the forum; I couldn’t retrieve a new password for some reason. I’m not too happy with a lot of the changes. I’ll name some of those that are in my mind right now:

  • the headlines on the forum index is smaller than their descriptions

  • you removed the black space on the left - good

  • if you’re not logged in, all forum text shows up as Arial, about 12px

  • PLEASE make all text relative; use percent or ‘em’ when defining font sizes instead of ‘pt’ or ‘px’ - that way I can resize them with my browser (IE6). When reading longer posts, I like to sit back instead of staring intensely on the screen; this is hard to do when the text is small (they appear so on resolutions higher than 1024x768).

  • too many places display black text on dark background - this is somewhat ironic, because one thing that was on my wish list for long, was white text in users’ posts. Now that you’ve done that, you’ve made other places harder to read - like this ‘quick reply’ form I’m using now.

  • the supposed ‘mouseover’ images on the front page doesn’t really do anything. I’m using IE6.

Other than that, I think the changes are for the better. Thanks.
