New trailer out 10/05/06 E3

(bosx2) #41

ok
take these 2 pics:

and compare the explosion/particles with the ones shown in the video. NOT EVEN CLOSE. The video has simple blurry splashes flying around making a blurry puff.

For the faking, every Screenshots that showed a strogg airship, has some kind of
engine smoke. The vid has nothing of it.

Well I could continue and continue, but its not worth it… simply dissapointed

We’ll see when the game/demo comes out. Try to run it at full quality to try your hardware.

(Rhoades) #43

lol, i think you have to realize, most ET fans do not care about graphics. They care about the gameplay.

(DarkangelUK) #44

So you’re disappointed at the video or the game itself? Cos from you’re saying, the screenies suggest the game will have all that stuff… so how can you disappointed in the whole game when a video doesnt have the effects in it?

(Lanz) #45

That strogg airship in the second pic you posted sure has engine smoke in the trailer, it also has the heat haze effect. It’s just not as visible as the anasi’s engine smoke in this trailer though.

Don’t worry, those of us that actually care about gameplay won’t miss you.

Hmmm, watching the high res trailer, it looks like the ground textures go fairly low detail if you aren’t close to them, but in the scenes where it is close, it looks quite reasonable. The video codec makes everything blurrier and blockier, so I wouldn’t say the screenshots a faked. As lanz mentioned, some of the aircraft do have contrails. They may have the graphics turned up to the point they don’t get playable framerates for the screenshots, but that isn’t fake. By the time the game comes out hardware may well be able to handle max detail.

Overall, I thought the trailer looked pretty darn good.

BF2 fanboi spotted!

Seriously have a look at the actual gameplay footage before you decide. I really thought the graphics were not that good in the trailer but the in-game looks fantastic.

That said, many of us won’t give much of a flying f***. We love ET for the gameplay. Much to say is utterly lacking in BF2.

Well the megatexture just seems very low res, it’s like when you in ET take a texture and scale it up to make it look less tiled on a terrain. It get this granular look as it gets in ET:QW in the up close shots. Sure I understand there’s quite some limits to a technology like this but I didn’t think it would look like this up close though. Also in the trailer it looks very blurry on a medium distance, I hope that’s because of the video codec but I have my doubts. But besides this I think it looks excellent, but I get the feeling that megatexture is the hype of the year that really doesn’t deliver in the end. We probably need a lot more memory on the gfx card before it will look really nice.

Also as I commented in another thread, a megatexture compressed and ready for release is around 500mb, how will that affect custom maps? Is this something we will only see in the production maps and not used by the community maps? Is it even possible to NOT use the megatexture in custom maps since so much info is baked into it?

Good download spot. In case it gets stressed out, here’s an ED2K link for the big trailer. Later I’ll post for the others. Maybe someone could post torrents too?

Mirror at Swedish www.fz.se: http://www.fz.se/filarkiv/download.php?file=mov/enemy_territory_quake_wars/quakewars_050906_wmvhd.wmv

Good speed too. Downloaded it at 1000 KB/sec

anyone got an idea how to get an hq trailer form there? i need one without the ugly green gamespy logo at the bottom.

Anansi… in tunnel… flying… and blowing hovertanks…

ghhhh…

(ParanoiD) #54

Maybe the screenshots have different resolutions and settings (1024x768 vs widescreen video). Dont forget the systems that SD uses:
Intel P4 3.4 GHz and Nvidia GeForce 6800. Its far from high end. My conclusion would be that the hardware isnt capable to run ET:QW smooth enough for a video cap, but making a nice screen at highest detail with 10 fps is no problem at all.

Guess ET:QW in high quality would look good on AMD Athlon FX-60, 2x nVidia GeForce 7900GTX 512 in SLI, 2 GB DDR Ram etc etc :P.

Do you guys really think they can not get their hands on a monster pc if so required to make the promotional demo? Get real…

(BrightSoul) #57

I’m not disappointed with the graphics shown in these gameplay videos/ trailer. Some of the textures are indeed low res but, hey, we knew this since before the E3. I mean, look at this screenshot
http://media.pc.ign.com/media/748/748377/img_3319011.html
the trunk shows low detail and so does the soil. No news then…

I think the animations are fuild but I didn’t like all of those show in the videos. For instance,

  • the hands are not shown on the rungs when climbing a ladder. I don’t think anyone could climb full speed without using his hands;
  • the fieldops distributes ammo with both hands (?) and the overall animation is not really smooth. Well whatever…
  • the “implanting” animation is way too simple, I expected the strogg medic to “work” on the fallen human body, not just perform multiple injections.

The quick chat hides some part of the screen. Can’t it be made half-transparent or moved to the top left corner just like the one in classic ET?

(Zyklon) #58

Well I’m sure we don’t have to worry about low graphics when there will be picmip :]

(bosx2) #59

I never crititzed the gameplay at all. I love ET too and I really like the shown gameplay of et:qw .

But the more I see, the more disappointed I am. I just watched all the gameplay footage and again I was shocked how bad the graphics are. “Bad” as in a meaning as average (not exciting anymore). The level shown has a very simple constructed layout with nearly no eye-candy.
The first person animations are a joke, really. When you revive someone, it has one of the worst animation in YEARS. Not acceptable.
Graphical its far behind expectations. :frowning:

Strange after seing the ingame footage from the E3 chaky cam I actually thought it looked much better than it did in the trailer. Sure a couple of minor things like that stabbing motion and some other small details could have been refined a bit (and might just as well be). But what’s that about hands while climbing ladders and if they use one or two hands for ammo? Does any game have hands while climbing and who cares about one or two hands giving out packs? That’s really nitpicking things in my book.
