Actually, the beauty of ET (and RTCW, RvS, etc…) is it’s reliance on teamwork. You can be the greatest shot in the world, but if you don’t have a team working as a team, it’s boring.

Yes, it’s a game… but so is baseball. Going to the batting cages and hittin some balls around is far less satisfying than working as a team to complete an objective (ie win).

Eh…

IX:
If I came off as disrespectful of real soldiers, I apologize. I have only the greatest admiration for anyone willing to risk death in defense of our country. I would think that you of all people would be annoyed and offended by the endless blathering and noob-bashing of so called “vets”. I have learned a great deal about this GAME from reading the posts of well intentioned reasoned people, and virtually nothing from those who seem to regard the GAME as their personal property. I respect the right of clan members, who pay for the servers, and generously allow us to play on them, to kick any willfully obnoxious or obstructive players. Anyone who plays the GAME for any length of time should get bored with stupid solo behavior, and hopefully realize that the fascination lies in coordinated team play. But if they don’t, thats their right also. In the future, I will take my own advice, SHUT UP AND PLAY!

For me it’s because I get disconnected on every map change and can’t afford to buy the extra RAM I need to keep me in a game for more than 1 map. Booo :frowning:

Everybody is new to everything at some stage.

Those that are not “new”, and are old, should take under their wings those that are “new”, and coach them until they are old. Berating the “new”, because they are “new” will only serve to drive them to other games. The “new” players of today are the Old players of tomorrow.

I don’t care how long you play, ET will never help you to treat animals or make you a “vet”.

Joking aside, New players do stupid things to start with, but if the response of those who know better is to scream at them and Call Votes to kick them, how the hell will they ever learn.

Sure you get Stupid players, but as Uncle Forest said “Stupid is as Stupid Does”. New does not neccessarily mean Stupid, as Stupid does not always mean New.

Thats all I have to say 'bout that sub-ject.

okay, ive been waiting for a post on “noobs”. i have been playing shooters for a long time now. playing ET for a bit and love it. noob or no noob.

what everyone has to realize is that we are all new sometime. just because you’ve been playing longer than me, doesnt give you the right to scream NOOB! everytime to run into my artillery fire or everyone time some ass thinks the are going to fool the other team by shooting at me when in uni. if you shoot me, i am assuming you are enemy and i will shoot you before bothering to see who you are.

people use the term noob as an excuse way too much. when i go prone and guard the dump gate with machine gun, im defending…not “noobing”. if you cant figure a way in then thats your problem, my team still has the advantage.

it would be understandable if you are annoyed by an noob when they are tk’n all the time. but what you have to realize is that people learn by mistake. everyone is new once. give them the chance. if some sort of rating block was initiated then this would kill then chance for most newbies to learn cuz everyone would enforce it. especially being that most servers are clan servers. and dont get me started on clans. or as most are putting it “those who colour their name”. we all know most of these idiots are clan members. clans are great. I especially love it when my team drops to two or three and i get seven of the enemies circling the spawn with nades and launchers. kiss my ass.

well, see…we should make fun of the noobs now, before they get better and kick our asses at the game!

jk, well anyways. great post fenix.

Although I very much agree on the part of teaching ‘new’ players the game, there is a difference between ‘new’ players and ‘n00b’ players. I’ve been a ‘new’ player myself, I’ve watched, fought and learned. And most importantly: I’ve read the friggin’ manual. There is nothing wrong with new players who want to learn and ask qustions, it’s great to show them around the map, but the player that just jumps in, picks the Panzer (“oooh, rocketlauncher!”) en frags the first 5 people he sees (teammates ofcourse) on EVERY SPAWN is not a newbie, but a ‘n00b’. Some of those learn after a while, some never do and get kicked off of every server they play on, but still it’s not ‘evil’ to get pissed off at players who don’t even take the time to read the manual.
