n00bs ruining games

(damocles) #21

FFS, we’re all noobs at this point in time.

Yeah, because none of us have been playing RTCW since it came out. And none of us have been playing ET since day 1 of the public test. We’re all noobs :weird:

(wouter) #22

Right. sigh.

For a game that’s been out a couple of months it’s silly to call yourself a vet. If you don’t get that point please step down from your imaginary throne and read my post again.

(Pamper) #23

“Genius person”: Rushes to backdoor, lays down inside it. Makes sure nobody gets past because his butt holds it shut. Gets bored and watches a Simpsons rerun until the next map.

(Dawg) #24

I have read your post and others like it. They are based on a faulty premise. That being that the amount of time you have spent playing a particular game determines whether you are a newbie or not.

I’ve been playing ET since it came out and was playing RtCW for quite some time before that. My shooting skills aren’t spectacular but my understanding of the gameplay and the tactics involved both in the classes and the maps makes me a veteran player. The difference between a vet and a newb is not how long they have been playing, it is how they play.

As I noted in my post above, it is not the true veteran player that denigrates the newbies and tries to kick them off the server. It is the middle-level player, the one with some shooting skills and has played the maps for a bit so he can find his way around. All of a sudden he thinks he is an expert and can talk down to the newbies. He doesn’t offer help or suggestions.

That we come on these forums and tell tales of our encounters with newbies shouldn’t be taken as some sort of attack. Its a way of venting our frustrations and sharing experiences.

I, for one, always enjoy a newbie on the server who is interested in learning how to play, how the map is laid out, and so forth.

Dawg

(amazinglarry) #25

I agree with Dawg here. I’ve been playing the Wolfenstein series since the shareware times and of course when I actually bought Spear of Destiny. So I’ve always been a fan of the Wolfenstein series so I was playing RtCW since beta test 1.

Just because it’s a reletively new game doesn’t mean there can’t be any vets… however, my favorite thing I witnessed was people calling other people “n00bs” the day the first test for ET was released. I thought that was hilarious that people had the gall to call other’s n00bs the very first day, because clearly they themselves have been playing ALL day…

But what I mean by agreeing with Dawg is that while we all may be new to ET we understand the tactics and teamplay invovled with a game such as this one, and we’ve put a significant amount of time into learning and then perfecting them to the best of our abilities. That’s what makes us “vets.” Although I’ve never really thought of myself as one until now. It’s not that the vets think they’ve better than everyone, it’s just that we actually know what’s going on.

(wouter) #26

Well, you just made my point. Claiming you’re a Vet just sounds silly, that’s why I introduced some other terms as being a smart player. The term veteran comes with an absolute time you’ve played to game for.
Being a smart player comes with the time you spend playing.

If you play ET for 2 years you’re a vet, no matter how shite you are.
If you kill dozens of people and just know your way around a map, you’re a smart player. That’s my point. And from what I’ve read in the last 2 posts you guys agree.

(damocles) #27

This isn’t war. You don’t have to complete a tour of duty to be considered a vet. You don’t have to have bagged a set number of charlie.

Vet is a term someone started throwing around as a counterpoint to n00b, that is all. Vet in the terms of gameplay, and especially on these forums, is merely a reference to the ability of said players, not the time they have played. To guage ability on time is proposterous anyway. Some people play games for years and are still crap at them. Some people can learn the games in weeks and be skilled players very quickly.

And who says that 2 years is the point you become a veteran player of a game? The term veteran applies absolutely no time constraints whatsoever. And given the compressed time frame of games (eg, we fight in many campaigns daily) the term has to be modified to suit this. In real life a veteran is someone who has served for a long time, or survived a major campaign/war. In gaming terms, a vet is someone who knows what they are doing, and is a much perfereble terminology compared to “not so smart”, “smarter” and “smartest”.

f*cking n00bs thinking it’s a spare deathmatch. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
:banghead: :bash:

(schmeisser) #29

Ah, shaddup, all of ya. Noob/shnoob. It’s a fucking game. Nobody is born knowing how to play it. There is no magical osmotic process for absorbing experience. You think real combat was fought by experts? NO. A bunch of noobs, our grandfathers, kicked the Nazi’s asses. Consider us noobs a limiting factor on you “vets” (could that BE a more pathetic term in this artificial context?) godlike abilities to run around and pretend to kill each other while sitting on your asses in front of a glowing screen. Not one of us would have the balls to do it in real life. We play this for FUN because it has precisely NO signifigance. So shaddup and play already you fucking former noobs.

(L2|B4tt3rY) #30

heh i like noobs, todays noob is 2 morros expert :stuck_out_tongue: lol also they run into my artillery a lot

(Wasted!) #31

because of them your team managed to win the map in just 5 minutes, so it seems to me that they helped the team a lot
how do you know that they only did it for xp?

(senator) #32

Helloohoo, he was playing as Allies and the map was won in 5 min. that means Axis won and his team lost, most likely because his team was filled with XP whores who didn’t contribute anything to the game.

(EvilBaga) #33

Ive tried that numerous times… Only partially works if the allies rush you. Still, quite a good tactic.

Ok,why am I posting instead of playing ET? BECAUSE MY PING IS A HORRIBLE 250! ARRRRGHHH!

(Wasted!) #34

Oops… i thought he was axis
definetly xp whores then

(Cod boy) #35

i am not saying they werent xp whoring, but if thre is 1 lt doing it with multiple other players, then usualy its good to give peopel ammo at begining of their spwan, that means they dont have tu hunt for ammo when they just got out of a fight and have low hp :drink:

(Wraith2k3) #36

(Sauron|EFG) #37

Problem is that the ones who stay in spawn to hand out ammo tend to put it all in a big pile. This results in the first 2 players getting plenty of ammo, and the others not getting anything. :disgust:

Anyway, I’d rather run out of ammo occasionally than play one man down.

({PiQ} Apoch) #38

You’re forgetting that IRL those guys were taking orders from people who knew what they were doing; and those who gave poor orders, got people killed. The difference here is that the “n00bs” in game do not listen to the orders (or cursing) of those who know what they are doing.

Also, don’t forget that IRL soldiers must at least go through basic training, so they weren’t utter clueless newbies - just not hardened warriors either. Your comparison is utterly pointless.

(IX) #39

Actually Schmeisser some of us have defended our country,
so that, in and of it self,
is a blanket statement, which has only some basis of truth, but does not apply across the board,
because you didn’t or wouldn’t really serve to defend your nation…no hard feelings man, but you are off the mark of this conversation and maybe should go back a few and re-read the beginning posts to familiarize yourself as to the reason why people are having a difficult time with new people.

IX

(schmeisser) #40

I Repeat:

  1. It’s a game.
  2. It’s a free game. You don’t own it. I’ll play when and how I please.
  3. It has no signifigance or value other than temporary therpeautic distraction.
  4. It bears little or no resemblance to actual combat.
  5. Skill in this pointless game requires practice.
  6. Noobs must play in order to practice.
  7. Shut the fuck up about noobs and lets us prance around in this infantile little simulation of killing without the pathetic whining of “vets” (HA HA HA).
  8. Refer to item 1.
