*MY* Brink Worries

(BioSnark) #121

It’s extremely common because first person gun models (gun, hands, arms) are usually different from 3rd person body models. Body models can often be switched.

(Herandar) #122

I’m concerned that the ammo in the feeder belts on the turret is static, and I don’t see hundreds of shell casings being ejected from the gatling gun and then roll around all over the floor using real shell casing physics.

Seriously, why would such minor graphic details matter in the slightest? So the gloves are different when other people see you? Gloves aren’t a customizable option, so you can’t make them match your outfit.

(SpyCake) #123

Only game i’ve seen this done in is actually CS

(A.i) #124

I think l4d had the same model for 1st/3rd persons view, I might be wrong…

(BioSnark) #125

Well, if you look down in an fps and don’t see a body that may be some indication

(DouglasDanger) #126

People worry about the craziest things.

I’m sort of worried the community will figure out powerful game-breakers, like what happened to Black Ops.

(SpyCake) #127

Well… that’s something i don’t care about, because it is really rare in a game

“I’m concerned that the ammo in the feeder belts on the turret is static, and I don’t see hundreds of shell casings being ejected from the gatling gun and then roll around all over the floor using real shell casing physics”

seems to me there’s brass in both ET games

I remember seeing a game trailer just before ET:QW came out that showed a soldier walking through a shower of brass from an attack heli overhead and I thought it was the coolest game video ever, can’t remember what game it was for

(A.i) #129

Same thing was seen in the 2nd battlefield 3 trailer

(Nail) #130

just watched it, nothing like it at all, the second trailer shows a squad taking out a sniper with an ATM

(A.i) #131

Then its not the 2nd one :), there was a trailer where the player is shooting from mg on the bridge cross walk, maybe its 3rd trailer then, need to check myself

What are you talking about

Models for 1st and 3rd persons view are never the same, especially nowadays. You can’t put a camera in place of the head of a 3rd person model and except it to look good.
First, the way we are used to see the hand in FPS are not realistic at all : imagine a guy walking around with the arm bent, a gun in his hand in front of is eyes, following each rotation of his head. At best that would look goofy.
If you think about body awareness, like in L4D1, it makes thinks worse : we tend to accept, as it has been there since the beginning, that people’s feet are sliding almost all the time in FPS, when other people turns, when they go slightly forward, the walk animation doesn’t have time to begin but they have moved anyway. Now this type of things would look really weird if it were your own feet

Plus, you can’t have the same amount of polygones between hands arms and guns seen full screen all the time, and the same things on people running around everywhere, most of the time far from you, that would make for a poor optimization. (of course you should have proxy models for far characters, but even from upclose I don’t see the point of having other people’s model too complexe)

… so yeah, no, same models in 1st and 3rd person view, I really don’t think so.
Matching models, why not though. But I really don’t care if other people sees my character
with not the exact same gloves…

(BioSnark) #133

I thought l4d and crysis fp bodies were quite good.

(SpyCake) #134

Bulletstorm aswell tbh…

(JeP) #135

I didn’t say anything about that, I was talking about the fact that 1st person and 3rd person models can’t be the same.

(SpyCake) #136

Gloves can… like in tf2, or mirrors edge, Cod, most other games.

(DouglasDanger) #137

The gloves are different in fps-view as a cool little thing for the person playing the game. Is it really a big deal?

(SpyCake) #138

Never said it was a big deal, but i think it would be better if they were the same.

(JeP) #139

Thank you for reading :

I was talking about people thinking you could take the full model of a character and use it for the 1st person view, and tried to explain that no, it can’t be the case. That’s all.

(BioSnark) #140

It can be the case. It isn’t in Brink.
