*MY* Brink Worries

(DouglasDanger) #141

Yeah, there are different gloves depending on your perspective. Can we move on now? I don’t understand what the aim of this discussion is.

What are people’s concerns about Brink? I’m worried about Downed Fire. I’m worried about the amount of players dropping off dramatically after three or four months. I’m worried that the bots won’t be nearly as good as advertised.

(JeP) #142

I’m sure you’ll be happy to give me examples, go !

(BioSnark) #143

weren’t there examples in the past dozen posts?

edit:

The original discussion and intent of this thread is to parody.

(Herandar) #144

Correct! This thread was made after a couple of people had posted threads about their specific (and usually minor) worries about the game. I was mocking those type of posts in hopes of preventing more of them and it might have actually worked (probably a coincidence though.)

I’m a firm believer in thread evolution through survival of the fittest conversation, however. The concern about gloves not matching is pretty damn trivial, though. They serve as a subtle visual reminder of what class you are.

L4D ? CS ? Are you sure the arm hand and gun are the same model between 1st and 3rd person view ?

In old games (FEAR for example), the legs in 1st person could be the same as in 3rd person view, but nowadays, it’s never the case, and even back then the arm hand and gun can’t be the same, as I’ve explained. Or my reasoning is flawed, then tell me how.

Or perhaps you don’t know and are not interested ^^

(BioSnark) #146

Your reasoning is that because having first and third person models the same is impractical* it is impossible**. It isn’t impossible because it has been done. If you acknowledge that it has been done in “old games” then it is certainly possible now.

I never saw it done vary well until playing l4d (1). The first game that I recall seeing it in was operation flashpoint (the old one). Never saw a body model implemented in any hl1 mods including CS. Crysis (1) uses a first person body model but the arms and gun modeling is separate from the body model. I have no idea if it was retained in Crysis 2.

*Animation/detail resources, breaking standards of fps appearance, optimization and whatnot. I know this. I didn’t bother to explain it because it’s not relevant to a discussion of what is and is not possible.
**“it can’t be the case.” - you

(JeP) #147

I’ve said it’s impossible for arms, hands and guns. I maintain it. For the simple reasons that first persons hand would look goofy seen from someone else’s view (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jBKKV2V8eU) and would make too heavy models for a 3rd person view. It’s not only impractical, it would make for a bad optimization too.

I’ve talked about legs that could have been the same between 1st and 3rd person model. That’s all. And even for that, IF it’s the case, it was possible back then because games didn’t looked as polished as now, and having feet sliding on the ground wasn’t strange.

As I’ve said, it’s not the case in L4D. Legs again, when someone else turn, his legs are following the movement, feet are sliding. When if you look at your feet, they’re more or less quite immobile on the ground, till you’ve turn too much and then they move. And I’m quite sure it’s the same for other recent games.

(BioSnark) #148

How can you say something is impossible… can not be done… if you acknowledge that it has been done?

l4d looked good, crysis looked better. The only way being a floating pair of arms can look better is if you’re used to being a floating pair of arms.

I said that in the post you’re responding to… just above where I said it’s irrelevant to your assertion.

(JeP) #149

I’d like a quote there, cause I’m sure I haven’t said that it has been done. Cause the arms hands guns have to be specific to the 1st person.

(BioSnark) #150

Oh I see you were just talking about torso and legs. In any case, in Operation Flashpoint the player can look around and see their shoulders and such. Looks like that’s retained in recent iterations and the arma series.

it’s hard to get away with horribly misaligning them with visible projectile weapons.

I’m worried that I cant do rocket jump, because there arent rocketz, also, I’m also super worried that I wont find any archetype matching my exact eye color, because I want to make an archetype that look as cool as me ya’know!

(H8tz) #156

I am worried there will be no v21, no MP40 and no “pling” hitsound for headshots!

(obliviondoll) #157

I’m worried the game will be horribly horribly delayed by some idiot in Australia deciding to ban it and Splash Damage having to change how they ship it to NZ.

(Herandar) #158

Is everyone ready for the plethora of "Will my PC play Brink threads now that the PC Specs have been released?

Everybody remain calm.

(DouglasDanger) #159

After all of the interviews, videos, features and whatnot, the only thing I am really worried about is the netcode. This link–
http://www.next-gen.biz/features/balancing-on-the-brink

has me very optimistic about post-release support.
