My Biggest Disappointment

(fearlessfox) #142

Some people need to realise that there’s a big difference between backhand comments and being legitimately conflicted regarding being a fan of a thing and concerned and disappointed at the state of its development and the way the devs have handled it all.

It’s a maturity thing.

(Azev2000) #143
I understand the whole business thing, quite well.

However, there is no reason to believe that the DLC was surgically cut from the game. The artists and level designers don’t have much to do once the rest of the crew are preparing the game for release, which is more of a programming activity. So they start work on new content. Nothing was cut. This is new stuff.
If you beleive that then I have this bridge I would like to sell you.

Ok. You might be totally genuine about that. Maybe the thing that rubs me the wrong way is the way you praise yourself. I know that I myself should pull some punches everyone now and then. But I try not to build myself up too much in the eyes of others. I’m simply trying to get my point across. Not project a facade of maturity or stature.
Today is thursday sir. Please burn your copy of brink and never return if Splash Damage pissed you off so badly. You can buy a new copy later if they redeem themselves.

I’m gonna count on only the awesome people staying behind. :D
Seems like more people have burned their copies Sir. Another day another drop.

Yes, UItimateKilla clones are leaving the ship.

(ataliba) #147

we were all excited with this game… and it hasn’t delivered nothing… there’s no story to the ark and the war… there only 4 nice cutscenes and some talking about random stuff… c’mon I bet nobody is satisfied… probably not even SD…

(Kalbuth) #148

???
I wasn’t expecting any kind of story, that’s not what I want from ET-like games

(Jess Alon) #149

I don’t even think I’ve watched all the cut scenes.

(ataliba) #150

you should… they’re quite nice…

(Jess Alon) #151

Maybe I’ll force myself through a single player campaign so I can watch them. I usually skip them to get into the game with my friends.

(St NickelStew) #152

Watching is definitely worthwhile, I think. There are more than four. And there is more of a story to the game than I would have originally expected.

Now I haven’t read/watched (not sure which is done I haven’t done any of them) the audiologs, but those apparently provide more information on the story and the characters involved.

See? I myself haven’t complained about story but then again I haven’t been chasing after the story too hard.

Jess, I think the point is that this game has such potential for a story! I know that if you buy this game for anything other than MP, you screw yourself over. But why can’t SD go the extra mile and focus a little bit on character development and all? For example, the beginning cutscene of the Resistance campaign – who are those guys? I would really love to get to know them, maybe take them to a bar or something and see if I can get lucky (Just kidding, but seriously.)

The Ark was supposed to be a safe place. Then refugees started pouring in because the outside world was falling apart. Then, the Ark became overpopulated and tensions started running high. Tell us this story! Introduce us to some characters and make us care about them. Introduce us to locations and give a meaning to each map. It’s just a shame because the story has so much potential

I find the story to have some nice bits in it, yeah  You just gotta think some up for yourself :stuck_out_tongue:

I see Irish Guy, ‘‘Rusmir’’ and Retarded Asian Guy :stuck_out_tongue:

… Really, what the **** is wrong with the asian dude

(riptide) #156

I bet they are more disappointed than we are to be completely honest. After all it is their own vision and work. You don’t get in the entertainment business to fail to entertain and you don’t decide to make games so nobody will play them because of some minor programming and testing issues.

Yeah. It’s mostly just a mission based game. But did ETQW have a deep story? I mean I just wasn’t expecting much beside having an online gameplay mode that I could play all the time with my friends. Sadly not everyone is onboard with this. But I play dwarf fortress. I’m about tactical details. Not how pretty it is or what the voice options are. I like a game that I can plan out and do well through experimentation. And Brink scratches that itch.

I don’t know if I’d want to stop and try to talk to an NPC mid mission while the other team’s trying to kill me. It’s just not a priority for someone like me. But I kind of understand if some people though Brink was gonna have longer missions with more of a story arc and a better flowing story arc. I just think it was probably hard to make that modular so that both sides could be played through. Sometimes I wonder if Brink was bigger and better but something wasn’t working right and the game got chopped up in the end. Simplified. And there’s pieces that SD has laying around that they plan on adding to it as they work it back out. I think that Brink as it is might NOT be complete. But if it’s not there’s a reason. And they are trying to fix it and give us what they can in the meantime.

And if that happens it’ll be the first title I’ve ever owned that just gets better over time. Added story and features. I miss my hopefulness of Brink. But I’m not going to latch onto a list of things I think I’m entitled to and complain that it isn’t there right now. That’s childish.

I believe it’ll get done. If not then you can say I told you so. Just give it three months or so.

(Oschino1907) #158

HAHAHA so i am not the only that notices him do that in almost every post in an attempt to take a jab back at others but at the cost of being condescending and touting ones self in order to make his point. Also the fact that in many cases just ignoring the OP would have been the much higher road to take rather then a slight of hand smack talk under the cover of maturity.

Not many current shooters have great stories to begin with. People say the COD stories are good… but I think they’re pretty generic. Sure, it’s theatrical and hollywood-like but the story isn’t there. And yeah, Brink doesn’t need a story because in the end it’s all about the gameplay. But all I’m saying is that it would have been great if we had a proper campaign with solid story development because the story is right there just begging to be told. But SD didn’t exactly FAIL at this, because the story wasn’t their focus to begin with.

(Jess Alon) #160

People can report him for consistently derailing almost every thread on this board and trying to draw attention to himself. He can get infractions for that kind of behavior. It’s just as offensive to some people as being rude to some people. But he seems oblivious. At first I thought he was especially disgruntled but then his posts started to seem like this.

(fearlessfox) #161

I don’t claim to be super-mature, but I do point out when others are being malicious and immature themselves when we should all be discussing things with civility.

I don’t praise myself, and you wouldn’t be able to find a post of mine that would back up that claim. Sure, I make the odd sarcastic comment, but then I’m constantly bombarded with personal attacks and it can get a little bit trying.

Show me a thread where I derailed and I’ll apologies for it and delete the offending posts.

The DLC thread wasn’t a derail as there was no clear direction set for the thread. It was simply an announcement, all discussion relevant to that announcement is valid.

And I’m trying to draw attention to the aspects of Brink that are making the game entirely unplayable for me. why would I be seeking attention for an anonymous avatar in an online forum?
