My Biggest Disappointment
For all we know the first DLC was content that they couldn’t get out in time.

Regardless, there’s no way they could charge for the first DLC after such a botched release.
Certainly they could choose to; thankfully, they are not.

Who knows, the plan all along might have been for the first DLC to be free.

:stroggtapir:
Oh yeah and just a nice stat for you.

Peak players today 4,560

That’s 700 less than yesterday and 20k less than release. Looks like a lot more people see it my way

*These are PC population numbers
Today is thursday sir. Please burn your copy of brink and never return if Splash Damage pissed you off so badly. You can buy a new copy later if they redeem themselves.

I’m gonna count on only the awesome people staying behind.

What does it being Thursday have anything to do with it. There’s 1000 more people playing black ops SINGLE PLAYER.

(Kalbuth) #125

and so fecking what? Less people playing? Big deal, I’m used to that in all games I played. Leave the masses alone, tyvm

(riptide) #126

If that was directed towards me I was simply pointing out to him that it doesn’t matter what day of the week it is. He simply likes to blindly defend things or overlook everything. I like to call a spade a spade.

That being said this game has a fairly decent competitive community(on pc) considering the number of players during peak time. It’s a really high ratio of pub->competitive scene compared to other games.

(fearlessfox) #127

Yeh, because it’s so much fun searching for a gem with more than 3 human players in it for half an hour every time you want to play.

The dwindling playerbase wouldn’t be /so/ awful if the matchmaking system on the ps3 was up to par, but it seems to chuck people into as many empty servers as possible.

Today I was in a game. It was 5vs1. Three people joined, all were assigned to the team with 5 members.

(Kalbuth) #128

Yeah, true, I’m speaking for myself on PC, and I can see how frustrating it is on console.

(ataliba) #129

when you’re able to play with humans against humans the game is neat… it has some flaws, but overall it’s quite enjoyable.

Sorry to burst your bubble, Mr K, but the first DLC was probably already finished on release-day. It’s surgically removed from the original game, ensuring that it fits well and can be quickly certified and released. And whilst it’s free to the release-day crowd and that seems mighty decent of SD/Beth, it’s actually intended to cause a second surge of sales, like the ‘Director’s Cut’ of a DVD, if you like.

Again…sorry, but it’s a cynical world we live in, and SD/Beth are businesses first and foremost. If sales pick up, they’ll milk it a third time with a GOTY/Gold edition. ‘The faithful’ may benefit, but the aim is to tempt those who haven’t opened their wallets yet.

(Kalbuth) #131

Well, I say, good for them. Not that much of a “cash cow”, you’ll have to admit.

  • if it gives them more time to test and balance the new content, I’m all for it. Though, I’m skeptical about that.
The current release was, to say the least, rushed.

A free DLC 2 month after release, that doesn’t bother me much, I’m not going insane over that

(St NickelStew) #132

I understand the whole business thing, quite well.

However, there is no reason to believe that the DLC was surgically cut from the game. The artists and level designers don’t have much to do once the rest of the crew are preparing the game for release, which is more of a programming activity. So they start work on new content. Nothing was cut. This is new stuff.

And the people who make up the ideas like this are the publishers.

Same thing with movies. All that stuff is already there after the movie is filmed. The publishers just try to make some extra coin off of it.

I bet the DLC drops on the 1st.

(Jess Alon) #134
And the solution is to moderate efficiently, not bunch up feedback threads just because you don’t like to read them.

This is the point I’m trying to make.
So the developers need to moderate MORE as well as roll out all the appropriate updates? We could just stop acting a fool up in this hizzy and eliminate the problem altogether.

As much as I would like to believe that…I can’t just yet.

I never would have believed SD would pull of a DICE/EA-stunt like they did with BC2. Releasing the game with few maps and then “giving” us free DLC aka Map-Packs or Mode-Packs since those were the same maps we knew in different modes.

But considering the fact that only 8 maps is quite small for a release to begin with, I highly doubt that this will be brand new content. But then again only SD/Beth will know for sure.

My guess is that we will see a “story-line” continuing with Nejchejev returning or a map after the reactor exploded or anything down that line.

I will reserve my final judgement for the day the DLC arrives. Until then: yes, the community on PC is shrinking by the minute and this will raise as much concern for SD as for any realistic fan of SD.

ET:QW wasn’t considered that much of a success in the first place. But I remember it having 20k players months after release. Or it might just be my old brain who is playing tricks on me.
I feel the same. There’s a lot that can be fixed and it will get better.

One trend I’ve noticed on these boards are people acting like they adore Brink but then backhandedly trashing Brink relentlessly. Then going back to saying “I’m objective, I’m fair. I want Brink to do well.”, then trashing Brink.

It’s like “I love my wife and I want to treat her better” and you beat her some. “We’re in counselling and she’s a great wife. She has flaws but she’s gonna get better soon.” Spit in her face.

So backhanded. I can’t respect that.
sorry i was i was going thru and read this i do this. i play the game bunches im just freaking tired fo waht it could have been what was botched (mostly graphics and content wise) i love the game but i am not fair someone should ROAST FOR THIS MADNESS! well i dont care that much im gonna go play now and still complain after words

i was thinking the same (or the 10th exactly a month later you know) i can feel bethesda’s greed by making multiple fallouts (directers cut and so forth) because they have openly admitted oblivion could have been MUCH better and that they were holding skyrim for the next console (XBOX OVER 9000!!!)

i cant find a legit reason but i feel that bethesda rushed this game into exustence (by pushing up the release date and probably no longer allowing extensions [they could have seen a project spanning over 2 years constantly going 4 steps back and 1 step foreword and just decided forget it you know??])

i know im not making sense but i do think that bethesda is getting greedy with their SPOILS i mean tes and fallout series just made them bank rolls they didnt care about a game that wasnt theirs they just made a sick ass hype out of it and then dropped us quasi garbage

(Kalbuth) #138

Wow, I’m afraid this is your old brain. QW got quickly down the drain once it was found not really suitable for comp by many, having vehicles which drew away WET fans, and with pub servers locked to official providers only due to the rank thing.
Seriously, the ranking is what killed QW, and you can see SD learned from that in Brink, they took the complete opposite stance, and now everything is permitted and still gives you XPs and such.
But they made different mistakes this time, and Brink’s future looks like ETQW’s one. Maybe with more competition, this time, though

(Gamer2Gamers) #139

It’s a fun game no doubt, I love it, I think people are disappointed because they see a great game that is not very polished, that will all be fixed with a patch soon I hope and hopefully some spectacular, “what if” missions and challenges along with DLC so it doesn’t get repetitive so fast.

You seem like a nice enough chap, so I’m sorry to tell you this…the reason we can have DLC so quickly, is that it already exists. New stuff.?..no, sorry.

(St NickelStew) #141

You still haven’t revealed why you think so, other than the fact that you seem to be more than bit cynical.

Clearly it already exists … it is going to release soon.

That doesn’t mean it was cut from the game. At some point SP needs to say, OK, this is what the game content will be. At that point there are a number of people on staff who have little to do (like I mentioned before, artists, writers, and level designers, and probably others). Those individuals have time on their hands, so they begin work on DLC. Simple enough. Nothing was cut; however, both game and DLC content were under development at the same time. In order for developers to provide the post-release “support” that gamers seem to demand, this simultaneous development of content must occur. Simples.
