My apologizes and sympathy to Splash Damage

For those of you that don’t know, today (April 20th) a new beta tester decided it would be a good idea to post the beta download on IRC. A site saw this link and posted it, of course now the link has been removed, and the site offered their apologzies. I could imagine that Splash Damage and its developers are not happy about this. I offer my apologizes to Splash Damage and to all the companies involved in the development of this game. And i’ll keep and eye out for illegal beta downloads.

I see it has found its way onto Kazaa and a number of FTP’s. Blah. If it just involves 1 cdkey, can’t you just ban that one and fix this problem?

Thanks for all your responses for this incident. And thank you for trying to get all those illegal beta downloads off the net. I ask any others that have any other beta download links on their site to please remove it. Also if you have the download, please remove it from your computer. Plesae be patient for it to release.

Bravo Highboy… Well said there are allot of sites out there that will uphold the way of the Wolf. But trying to get hold of the info is no easy thing. Let those that are legit know so they can provide the likes of us with some lead time and a place to grab our info and downloads from. Feed the Webmasters and they will feed the troops. I’ll certainly be looking at Http://wolf.dehn.net for my kosha download.

Finding out if its the real verison or not will be very hard. Just go to www.castlewolfenstein.com and check for the news. If it dosn’t say anyting about the ET test, then dont download it, if it does, then download away.

Yes - it’s frustrating. When the official release is available, we’ll be sure to update our website with the announcement so everyone will know it’s the version to get.

hey cool seems like eve online really is going on after all! what do u think about it? i’m waiting for this game quite a long time now and registered as a beta-tester but was very late… i really hope it’s near to independence war 2 as far as physics are concerned this game really rocked!

I’m probably in one of the worst places of the world to say this because I’m coworker of some RTCWnewssite ( http://www.xfire.be ) that happened to give an ftp link to the leak on Sunday. I can not really control what every newsposter posts but I think we have dealt with the case in a correct manner.

Having said that. I have played over a year of RTCW. Pubz and in Competition. I have been admin of some servers. I have posted hundreds of newsposts, faqed stuff, howtoed stuff, answered more than thousand questions on forums.

What I want to say basically: When I see a link of the ET leak appear on IRC and everyone I know is downloading it, well errh I’m going to download that too. So I did and I tried it some hours on some servers.

After having played the leak some hours and barely understanding everything, I already formed some rough image.
It seems it needs some balancing tweaking. Still some physics engine bug. Nobody likes the voicechats. I don’t like Class selection scripts per gameside. The map probably lasts too long. My fps is lower, but I haven’t tweaked everything yet. Allieds have sometimes spawns that are too far from battlefield. Basically atm I don’t believe it can be used in competition.
I don’t want to sound too negative. I believe the game has lots of potential, but there still needs to change a lot before I would like it. If every map in the full will be like fueldump (30 minutelike) there will be a lot of work for custom map makers out there.

I believe the illegal servers out there makes better testservers than the server activision has. Activisions server is filled with people who ping 20-250. The illegal ones are filled with people who ping equally around 60. I know most of them are passworded, but if you ask around on IRC I’m sure you can get the password. So if I was developper, I should certainly wanna play on one of that servers.

I don’t have much to say any more. If SD doe not like me trying their product on beforehand, well eh. I don’t care really. I believe (in my experience), SD does not threat RTCW newssites in a correct manner so I just get my information where I can get it.

Packman - Am I right in thinking that you are giving critisism to a pre-release Beta test of a game?

One which is not yet released and may well not even be the same version which IS eventually released as a test?

For someone who claims to be a part of a site which wants to be seen as a responsible and integral part of the wolfy community, I think your attitude and responses stink.

The bulk of those who really have the interests of rtcw in their minds are grateful enough that they are getting this online version for free.

They appreciate the fact that SD are bothering to go to the effort of releasing still, And show their gratitude by NOT ripping the beta off.

I strongly hope that SD/Activision etc etc are looking at their legal options with regards taking action against those who leaked the beta and also those sites who took a proactive stance in passing on links and setting up servers etc. (In an ideal world all those playing it atm would be auto banned from the release when it IS official- that would be swift justice).

As for Xfire.be - YOU personally along with your “co-worker” Have degraded my own and many others opinions of what was considered before to be a consistent an well informed site.

I will not be visiting your site anymore - and I will encourage all others who may previously have gone out of their way to help inform you of developments to boycott your site thanks to your foolish actions and your even more idiotic stance.

As a request Pakman, I am asking you to remove or edit your previous post on ET. To the people at Splash Damage and Activision, I believe they don’t want to see thier game belittled like that. It is a beta - version and I understand that, but so should you. So do this as a favor please.
