Mouse

(Aristotle) #1

So, I was stupid and got angry tonight because I had 0 hit reg for 3 or 4 maps in a row and slammed it into my desk, needless to say it broke. The mouse wheel no longer stops spinning when I try to move it and half the time I use mouse1 it doesn’t acknowledge that I clicked it.

So, I need a new mouse now, but the thing is I am very picky about my mice and I’d been using this g3 since they came out. They no longer make the g3’s so I’m in a pickle now. checked ebay and amazon with no luck.

Need advice on a mouse that would be close to the size, feel, base sensitivity and one with the same button layout if possible. (mouse1+2 with wheel inbetween with an addition button on each side of the mouse.)

mouse? use telephaty for better hit reg!

I didnt watch the sensitivities and stuff yet, but regarding the shape I think it is pretty close : http://wize.com/keyboards-and-mice/p198539-microsoft-habu-laser-gaming-mouse-9vv00001

You may have hard time finding it on stock also tho…

(edxot) #4

oooooooops, i must protect my baby.

maybe you can visit some lanhouses to experiment before buying (that’s what i did for my g3).

after you choose, please let me know, ok ?

I live for razer products and use the lachesis, but thats probably far too small and light for someone very used to a g3.

The deathadder is a very good choice, havent really heard many complaints about it, just praise. Bro uses it and yea…says its good.

G1 is the same size but lacks the side buttons and it’s optical which is nice… altough it has prediction which is not so nice. I use one now.
G9 is also a small mouse and has two side buttons on thumb side. Don’t know about the exact size but it feels bit shorter, lower and bit wider than G1 but I’d put it in the same size class as G1. I love the feel and size of the G9 but it skipped on all of my mousepads. On the bare table it was alot better but the problem was still there. I play with ~55cm/360 so i have to actually move my whole hand and be quick about it. I stopped using that mouse because of the skipping problems and because the cable broke.
Here is a combination that you should not try http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlIQdsV59d8

Wow! thats some seriously low sensitivity!
Im like around 5cm for a 360 xD. Peoples sensitivity always surprise me when i hear them.

(edxot) #8

maybe he plays with acceleration

Yeah, I have been looking at the deathadder for a while now, trying to decide if I wanted to replace my G3 or not.

I never really liked the G9 @ jopjop, always seemed too bulky/oddly shaped to me. It seems like it’s ergonomically shaped and I hate the feeling to those types of mice.

I found somebody in AU who has 8 of the Japan version of the G3, but at about 65$ USD plus at least 15 shipping, that seems a bit high personally for as old as the mouse is and given that it’s discontinued and no longer supported. Though I do have to admit, i am very tempted to buy two or three from him just to have them.

I have also been looking at the Steelseries Xai or Kinzu, just not sure about the steelseries mice, I don’t personally know anybody who has used them to ask how they like them, and I would much rather have a review of sorts from somebody I know or have gamed with than some random tart on the internet that is just giving it a good review because he’s a fan boy.

Going back to Razor, I read up a little on the Razer Abyssus and it seems like it would be decent replacement other than the fact that it doesn’t have the two side buttons, which I guess I could live without seeing as how I only have the left button bound and that’s to switch vehicle views on the fly, and I barely ever use the right side button out of game anyway.

@exdot
Not quite sure what you meant there

@aristotle
Yeah the G9 is very odd to your hand at first :smiley:
But I grew to like the shape and size specially… everything else in that mouse disappointed me :frowning:

BTW YumYum has a XAI

(Rex) #11

I play with the Xai and I love it :tongue:
Furthermore some guys and one girl who play with us mix wars use it, too. So we got a several opinions :wink:

Personally I really like the shape and the surface. You can compare it to the mice which are more flat than high. Thumb buttons are in a good postion as well.
My next point is the driver which is somehow bad and good :smiley:
You can several different settings to adjust there, for example the DPI which you can adjust steplessly from 100 to 5001.
The bad thing about it are the bugs. Though it depends on your specific system… for me it runs alright.
I want to be honest so I must say you need luck to get a good one, or you will need to send it back. My first one hold about 1 year, but I loved it so much that I bought a second one which I use at the moment.

If you got some more questions, just ask :slight_smile:

you remove windows acceleration from mouse to play etqw ?

(Ashog) #13

If you’re hi sense - go for G9X all the way. Can’t comment on Razer products since I never had one, mainly coz of absence of a Logitech’s tilt-wheel.

I seriously don’t recommend to buy the latest G700 since it’s not too suitable for shooters and has probs with one side button. I use it for all other games but ETQW. Switched back to my trusty G9X and started to hit something again.

(murka) #14

You use acceleration in windows?

I’d recommend to get a cheap(ish) optical mouse seeing your tendency to break them. I’d suggest something like mx500/mx518(1800dpi one recommended). They are simple, yet pull off nearly 4m/s and are quite comfortable.

(jopjop) #15

@exdot
I have disabled the acceleration from windows and set the windows sensitivity to 6/11. I also play some other shooters randomly. Everyone who actually wants the crosshair on the screen to move comparably to the mouse at all speeds should disable the acceleration. It’s very hard to get better if you can’t acquire any muscle memory because of the inconsistency in the mouse behavior.

@all
Here is a picture of the mouse prediction or smoothing I mentioned.

With G1 the lines are arrow straight because of the prediction. With Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical it was impossible to make as straight lines.

(Aristotle) #16

This is the first one I’ve broken, and it’s not a experience I want to ever repeat. Right now, until I finally decide on one to get, I am using a Logitech M100 that I stole from my friend, and I really don’t care much for it.

(Humate) #17

steelseries xai - http://steelseries.com/us/products/mice/steelseries-xai-laser

edit: G3 vs Xai size comparison

(lausl) #18

easy for the xai :slight_smile: i have one too

but i have to say: it’s my 3rd xai in 5 months (but it was my fault…i’m a little bit clumsy :mad:)

(Apples) #19

Not disapointed at all by the deathadder, and I can drink on it, never broke (except the wire that a freaking bunny ate… but captain ducktape was here!)

Peace

(r3fleX) #20

Oh dear ze german steelseries fan boi’s have come out (they all own 1 :rolleyes:)

But yea i love the deathadder, recently bought the black edition of it before brink as my deathadder before started to function abit oddly (randomly clicking without me touching the mouse & not responding sometimes) but after a years use, i dont mind replacing it as i <3 it …

TBF 55cm isn’t too bad if you don’t use a wrist rest like we do, as you are able to move your arm and not just wrist, it doesn’t seem so low.
