Mouse DPI & sensitivity?!

(Azztec) #1

I’ve been trying a few DPI and sensitivity settings and I figured one out that gives me a ‘proper’ aim.
Altough I’m not really sure if it is a good one (for playing pro).
Maybe someone could give me some advice?

My current settings are:
Mouse DPI 1600 (I can tweak this to 400, 800, 1600, 3200)
Windows Multiplier 6 (default)
In-game sensitivity 0.2 (to which extend is this tweakable? Are values like 0.175 possible to?)
m_yaw 0.022

The calculator tells me it’s about 128.6 cm?
http://www.notalent.org/sensitivity/sensitivity.htm

So what about this?
What are you settings and how many cm’s you need for a 360?

?!
Don’t you find it hard switching sensitivity just before you decide to shoot?

What about those values (m_pitch & m_yaw) in QW, would it be usefull for me to do that?
I also read these settings would can give different results in different games, so these values would be good for playing QW, but might be completely useless if I plan another game?
about sensitivity
i dont change it before i shoot (it has happened, but very rarely).
what i do is, play with some mid-low sensitivity in outside areas. and mid-high in inside areas.
example: refinery i usually play with lowest in 1st objective. the 2nd lowest (mid-low) in the 2nd objective, and with 3rd (mid-high) in final objective. but this is assuming i am playing technician in 1st obj whitch only happens when i am playing for frags. if i am playing for xp or to win, its preferable to use obliterator in 1st obj, and for this i prefer the 3rd sensitivity (mid-high). because its easier to lock-on incoming vehicles.
using higher sensitivities allows you to move faster across map. and the diference can be mostly noticed when 1) you using a strategy where you rape the other team (instead of camping waiting). 2) you are lemming to an objecive which is impossible to clear before finishing (mining lasers mostly, since you can snipe from miles away).
those 4 sensitivities i just recomended do not grow linearly. i did it geometrically. so, instead of getting something like 1 2 3 4, you should get 1 2 4 8. its not mandatory that the increasing factor should be 2.0, in my case it is 1.5.
NOTE (very important) playing with high sensitivity its not easy. you have to stay clear of open spaces, always camping in tight rooms. or when you are attacking the other team from behind, you better not start shooting as soon as you see someone, better aproach as close as possible to kill him. also, when you find multiple enemies and they didnt noticed you yet, make sure you start the killing with the one in the back, so the others in front of him dont see you (best here is to use a grenade, but make sure you dont get caught by the next enemy wave).

about m_pitch & m_yaw

you dont have to change both, either you reduce m_pitch or you increase m_yaw. the relation between them is the important issue here.

the main idea is to have more horizontal movement, than vertical.

drawbacks

 • it gets harder to snipe icarus
 • it gets harder to aim with oblits or grenade/plasma launchers.
 • it gets harder to aim in places like stairs or hills

advantages

 • it’s easier to keep the cross-air in the head of straffing enemies.
 • it’s mostly noticed when you and your enemy are straffing in the same plane (in a plain area). good example are maps like area 22.

There is an edit function in this forum.

and after 9 months, the discussion is prolly over

I wonder for whom he is writing this nonsense? Even a player with 2 hours playing experience would just laugh about it.

@edxot is your clanforum down, or why do you keep on trolling here?

(Aerie) #7

Why u guys are always picking on him? Is not just in this post…

(millerq3) #8

I also wondered that Aerie.

Please enlighten why edxot shouldn’t reply to a month’s+ old post because as I can see he’s not unique in this trait.

(Kl3ppy) #9

He has no clan anymore

(Khamul) #10

Lol threat is over ppl wrote everything about sensitivity then edxot as always after few months is spamming in dead topic.

So its reason why he visited sd forum

(Rex) #11

HAHAHAA, not even villa does want him.

Maybe you should read what he writes in all threads, then you might realise his troll/noob/trashtalk/off-topic spam behaviour.
But hey miller, his tips could be indeed really helpful for you.

(millerq3) #12

indeed :armadillo :

There are other threats that are even more dead and ppl still spamming them, so I don’t think that’s the real reason…

And the ppl that visit sd forum are not just from clans, so saying the reason he is visiting sd is because he has no clan anymore is just not logical.

If you hit people it’s good for ‘pro’

There is something wrong either with my settings or this calculator…
I had roughly correct results with 0.022 and win sens 6 (when the modifiers should be ~1) with this formula:
pixels/360degrees = 1920pix*4 = 7680px/360deg
dots per inch -> dots per sentimeters= 800dpi/2.54cm = ~315dpcm
360 degrees with sensitivity 1 -> 7680/315=24.38cm
my ingame sensi is 0.55 -> 24.38cm/0.55 = 44,32cm
Measuring this shizzle for realz i get 45cm/360degrees.

Oh and with the calculator i got 94,7cm -.-

(Dthy) #16

As far as i know, you can go to as many sig fig as you want for your in-game sens. My shizz is:

In-game: 0.85
DPI: 2000
cm/360: 27 (measured with a ruler)
m_yaw: 0.0195
m_pitch: 0.013

No idea about windows multiplier (never heard of it).

That link says i use 29cm for a 360 (with win multi 1), but i just measured it and it’s 27.

There’s no standard for what you’re sensitivity should be, just play with what feels most comfortable and what you can pew pew the most with.

Which Mouse do you have ?
Basically you should take the dpi setting your mouse has the best tracking with (native setting) and usually that setting has the
best malfunction speed too. win setting 6 is default and ok … Forget about the calc and weird formulas they are never correct, just messure
it ingame. Sensitivitywise I would say if you are used to highsense like 3cm or **** try 20cm for a 360 and go for there. In my Opinion 20-60 is a
good range but most of the good aimers in qw are in a Range or 30-50 I guess.

I’ve got a ‘Cyber Snipa Silencer Gaming Mouse’ (http://www.cybersnipa.com/us/gaming-mice/silencer-mouse.php)
I think the default value is at 800 DPI, but I’m not really sure about that…

(r3fleX) #19

Make sure you have disabled all mouse acceleration in windows/mouse drivers as this never usually helps… you need a consistant feel that your crosshair will move the same distance on screen when you move your mouse the same distance on your mouse pad, no matter the speed you move the mouse with your arm/wrist… this will help you build “muscle memory”

(Dthy) #20

Completely forgot about disabling mouse acceleration (or “Precision Control” as it’s called in Win7). Lets see if i can pwn now.
