I wouldn’t say it was a stupid idea…
more XP for killing more experienced players
Historically, killing officers has always been a good strategy. I think it also works in this game and I can see giving slightly more points for killing players more experienced then yourself.
This feature may also help to close the gap for people who join campaigns late or who get disconnected. Like anything else, you probably want to play test this for a while, but I suspect it’d be a good feature.
Actually, until post American Revolutionary War, killing officers was considered quite rude and was against battlefield rules of engagement for civilized countries. The Brits were very offended when the American patriots began using this tactic. It has since, however, become a very common and as you say good strategy.
I agree, awarding extra xp for killing higher level players wouldn’t be bad.
I actually like the way XP works now. I would like to see XP awarded in smaller units for “effort”. For example, if I deal 90% of the damage to a player, and another player finishes him off, I want half of the XP. Likewise if I’m disarming dynamite and get killed right before it’s done, and another Engineer comes up behind me and finishes the dissarm, I want a piece of that XP because I did a lot of the work. JMO.
I see a big problem with this. I play a med 90% of the time and I know from experiance its not the ppl that have put the most rounds in me that eventually kill me, its either a soldier with a panz or a co-op with a back stab. So those are the only two I can see benefiting from everyone elses hard work.
LoL, great avatar.
Anyways if they get ya, then they get ya. Tragic life.
I was just thinking… what would the extra XP go to? Heavy Weapons? Light Weapons? If it’s either or, it’s not a big deal except if you do good, you’ll get there a bit faster.
Explicit…that is a great avatar. :blah:
Oh…and nice post Ako.
Could you take this a little further?
If soldiers typically rely on their officers in battle…would it make sense to enhance players abilities (e.g. recharge speed, battle sense, etc.???) when located within a certain proximity (similar to moving the tank…but much greater distance) of an officer (LT. or greater???). This may also encourage the lower ranking players to protect…hopefully not smother or leech…a high ranking officer.
Under this scenario…fragging a high ranking enemy officer… your team would also benefit by dergrading the enemy squads abilities as well.
Just a thought. :chef:
rewarding XP based on damage inflicted would largely solve the issue of ‘i did 99% damage then someone popped him with a pistol and got all the XP credit for the kill’. in my proposal the person who did 99% of the damage would get 1 or 2 XP, and the person who finished them off would get 1.
having a bonus XP based on the difference in ranking would be nice too, so latecomers to a campaign have a resonable chance of coming up to speed instead of being left miles behind in XP. it would also put a strategic element into protecting high ranking officers, as in real wars
I think ET is absolutely perfect the way it is. Why change it when there are no problems as is?
Before I would support something like this, I would really have to see a demo of how it worked in a game.
Thanks,
Ike-T
I’m merely concerned that changing things that don’t hurt the game at this point are pointless to do.
Sorry, I don’t have the foresight to see possible problems down the road.
Although if there is a potential problem with the game, please post a demo of said problem. Otherwise, i see no reason for changing anything.

i wonder if your avatar indicates what you intend to do to the ET community.
i wish for an /ignore function on the forums … :moo:
Sorry you feel that way but the XP system is fine as is. If you’re looking to play a game in which you can come in and not have to worry about extremely high XP’s, play Stopwatch mode.
This will eliminate the huge differences in XP (as it is reset after every round).
Problem solved.

if you take out a lvl 4 med youd get 3 xp period, not 3+3.[/quote]
Its up to how the mod was coded. You still have to do 140 damage to get a kill on a medic. And if one persond did it in one shot…
That is what you are looking for isn’t it? XP for damage and XP for kill. You can’t kill without doing damage. And a kill as it is now is 3 Xp for non headshots.
But why are you seeking a means to to increase personal scores? All in all its worthless XP! If anything think of a creative way that if you are in a vecinity of an objective getting completed you get XP, not means for people to run off and ruin the game anymore. I’m tired of truck barrier #2 getting blown when the tank sits idle miles from the bank. I’m tired of the ramp in Battery getting built and blown over and over again as covert ops sit on the beach and snipes.
You want more points for killing, Q3/CS has a ton of servers still running. Be my guest. You did great work in RtCW with your mod, make a mod for ET again with these goals. I won’t run it on my server. But I am sure some CS converts would love to.
“if one person did it in one shot” I assume you are talking about panzerfaust… well if so, then nothing would change, would it?
you get 3 XP under the current ET scheme and 3 XP under my proposed scheme. how is that a bad thing?
what im talking about is awarding XP based on your effort. as ET is now, if you unload whole clips into someone taking him from 140 down to say 1 HP, just to have him finished off by someone elses single pistol shot… you get zero XP…
my method would award you 2 XP and the person who finished him off 1 XP. how is that worse or more unfair than the way it is now?
I see my sarcasm is not wasted on you :???:
Honestly I think it would be great to try different methods of tweaking the XP system.
Unfortunately these won’t be happening anytime soon because some people around here seem to be too afraid of change to even consider it.

Because you are already getting rewarded, by battlesense.
Other than that, the damage XP is not worth anything other than individual score. It does not contribute towards weapons focus ( light or heavy) it may contribute to battlesense, but youre double dipping… Its nothing but a personal score to seperate teamplay even more, and make this just like any other common Deathmatch game out there.
Some of us don’t care about personal scores. I’d gladly be the medic with 16XP who revives the engie with 600 XP at the end of a Depot match and see him blow it. Who really won the match, the medic or the engie, or the team?
