MML Church ET (+ source) released now!

How can you have the audacity to criticize the gameplay of a map, when you haven’t even played it?!

(G0-Gerbil) #42

I’ll agree that the route to objective and back can seem short, but let’s face it - any map is easy when there’s a fair chance that many players on the opposition haven’t got a clue what they are doing.

All the official maps were (and indeed still can be) an absolute doddle to win within minutes - battery can be done in pretty much around a minute, radar within a couple, oasis etc. all were ridiculously one sided until people became aware of what to do.

The clincher of course is if people hang around long enough to learn the map - I’d like to think the layout of church ain’t hard to learn, that was never my intention - the aim was for a small fast paced map with lots of vertical ‘fun’. Seems like I’ve acheived that, but people don’t value those things shrugs ET maps still annoy me because they are too big and too long (especially if you are on defence and doing well).

Of course, I wasn’t thinking I’d be able to please everyone, but there seem to be plenty of people playing it (whatever your definition of ‘plenty’ is) and that’s what makes me happy

Christ it was running on a 40 player server earlier today - I wanted to see what kind of carnage was going on there (a map designed for about 10 players max with 4 times that amount!). Couldn’t get in, was full - gave up after waiting 10 minutes. That kinda cheered me up while depressing me at the same time

Off to my own clan server - it’s full, but I have private password on there
For those that love the map, cya on it - for those that don’t - at least try it first, then I might at least take your criticism seriously :stuck_out_tongue:

I downloaded the file from RTCW files, made a custom campaign cycle to include that with RTCC in a full campaign. When I tested it on my computer (Church and the campaign cycle) it works, but I uploaded it to my server (20 person VSK server) it won’t load the cycle or even the map in single obj. Any idea why this is happening? This is the cycle code

{
name "Chruch and RTCC"
shortname "cmpgn_ChrRTCC"
description "This includes the New Church map by [MML]Gerbil and Return to Carnage Canyon 2 by Marko along with the rest of the original ET Maps."
maps "mml_church_et_v1;carnage2;oasis;battery;goldrush;radar;railgun;fueldump;"
mapTC 374 374
type "wolfmp"
}

and the structure is cmpgn_ChrRTCC.pk3>scripts>ChrRTCC.campaign

Ya, how can you act like that when you haven’t even played it? Besides, all those “oh I can snipe here” spots you’re saying I could spot everywhere. And I don’t just mean sniping.

Do me a favor and play it on a server full of people before you tell it off.

(hhhmmmmm) #45

I played mml on rtcw but was to engrossed in tram at the time to take notice of it, and i played it last night and it rocks! there where plenty of good players there, and just climbing in the rafters as a co-op could have kept me going all night.
just make sure the other team aint got loads of panzer girls laying in wait.

like i said - i aint telling it off - and also like i said - i dont SEE it as a map of fighting like i automatically did to SD’s map and various other custom maps.

I aint having a go or telling Gerbil off - i am impressed by what he has achieved - just expressing my views so far on the map. I aint making a final decision of what i think.

(flashkillaman) #47

maybe if its possible you should bring out a version where you also climb outside of the church and jump into the church from the roof and windows and stuff

Good job

I really like this map Gerbil, and thanks alot for releasing the code too. Looking around that and goldrush helps alot. And ofcourse, the release of this map brings us closer to you releasing Helms Deep.
I cant wait for that.

(Lockeownzj00) #52

what’s that? never heard of it :open_mouth:

(Maverick9611) #53

I found a minor bug. Walk into the church from the Axis spawn and take a left then take the quick right and look up. You should be standing under the second part of the roof. Now panzer the roof and the textures get all messed up. I would put in a picture of it but I dont know how. :banghead: Its nothing big but just something I noticed while playing around.

F11, takes screenshots in ET.

(Chackazz) #55

sorry to sound n00berific but there’s no .script or .shader file for your map?

(G0-Gerbil) #56

Hmm not managed to see that bug - will havbe a play around later to see if I can reproduce - would help if you could take a screenshot and email it to me - gerbil@theburrow.co.uk

RE: source - you need the main map PK3 file - try renaming it to give it a .ZIP extension and unpacking that - it’ll have all the file you need together with the other source file to see the map properly in Radiant and build from it.

thx

This map looks incredible, and gameplay aside, surely marks a milestone in a superbly atmospheric design. What is so jaw-dropping to me is the consistency throughout the Church. Most maps i see have areas which look slightly odd or out of place with the rest of the detail. The Church however, whether this is through a careful choice of venue & lighting, or through impressive attention to small aspects such as light streaming in through the doors in the crypt, looks entirely believable.

In terms of gameplay, well, the coming weeks will surely tell how fierce the battles will get!

(Maverick9611) #59

Hey Gerbil I sent you an e-mail with the screens. I would post them on the forum but Im not sure how to. :bash:

(DeAtHmAsTeR) #60
