Awesome, even better than I thought then
Mission types
Wait. I just noticed some contradiction in Richard’s quote
In the first paragraph he says this about the two campaigns,
but you’ll be going through a completely different storyline and going on completely different missions.
but in the second paragraph he states,
Or maybe you just finished a certain mission and you want to see what it was like from the other side, without having to wait until you eventually make it to the other storyline.
which then sounds like the different campaigns are just reflected versions of themselves, which makes no sense since he specifically says different missions. The missions really can’t be different unless they are alternate reality versions of each other. From what have been said so far it always seemed like the stories are in fact taking place at the same time (i.e. different battles in the same war).
So, which one is it?
It could be set up exactly like the campaigns in the enemy territory games with the addition of the cut scene narratives (one for each team on each map) with the campaigns being named after the geographical locations. Security campaign means the maps in the nice areas of the ark and Resistance being the slum/refugee areas.
As far as the quotes being confusing he might have used the term missions the first time meaning the maps mission objectives and the second time meaning maps
Yeah see, that’s what led to the confusion to me. Obviously as I said to begin with, it won’t work since if they are “unique” then you won’t have humans to compete against. I assume the wrong word was used though… that’s why I just wanted to hear it from the devs.
Thanks Joe999 for this one. At 2:00…
Once you make it through, the game will say you only know half the story, you think you know what’s happening, why don’t you try the other side. And so you take your character who you’ve leveled up (he might be level 15, he might have a whole bunch of perks and weapons) and now you’ll play through the other story line. You’ll see a totally new point of view, unlock a bunch of new levels you haven’t seen before, and it’s really at the end of the game when you think you know it all that we ask you, well who was the hero, who was the villain, what was the story?
To me a new level is a new map that I haven’t seen yet. Perhaps poor wording on Rahdo’s behalf in his excitement, and he just meant that the same map was being played with different objectives.
There won’t be faction specific maps people.
What they mean is that there stories will be substantially biased towards each side in that they become two different stories. ET and ETQW were pretty objective in the ‘story’, both teams knew exactly what was going on. This won’t be the case in Brink.
So when the security will be ‘infiltrate the bomb laboratory’ the resistance will be called upon to ‘defend the daycare centre for baby tapir orphans’.
You’ll still be playing the same map, you’ll still be fighting over the same objective, but the storylines will be very different.
Just consider the implications of exclusive maps for each faction… who the hell are they going to fight?
There’s more than 1 battle at a time during war. In a floating city that’s at bursting point, i’m sure there’s lots of people to fight
You suggest they’ll make a non-player faction just for the sake of having exclusive maps? Yeah that makes sense…
They would fight the other side
I assumed it was set up as two different stories in the same war, i.e. you see the war from the Security side on one front of the war, and from the Resistance point of view in a totally different battle, somewhere else on the Arc. (i.e. in the Security campaign Bob and Tom fight resistance group A on the east side of the Arc, in the Resistance campaign Resistance member Gary and Scott fight Security Group B on the West side of the Arc)
However, who knows how it actually works! I mean, in that quote I found he says two things that contradictory, in pretty much the same thought!
The truth is we’ll have to wait to see.
But as for exclusive missions on each of the two campaigns there will be atleast one on each side. It will be kind of an endgame what if scenario.
Watch 2:40 to 3:15
Warning Spoiler Alert.
And to once again confuse everyone they say that there will be separate maps for each story line.
Watch 0:00 to 0:25
I do.
The east and west side of the arc would be two different maps catered for both sides. There won’t be exclusive maps for each factions. It’s just that simple.
Or just use your common sense now.
I think the point is that you can’t have faction exclusive maps… cos you need an enemy… and if you fight against the other faction, then it’s no longer exclusive.
Maybe with ‘own missions/maps’ they mean the bonus missions, and what makes them specific is that the faction is the protagonist, IE the attacker. It wouldn’t make much difference in the free play but for the campaign it would be ‘exclusive’ as you venture from the story line and get a chance at having your own finale (like blowing up the reactor or wiping out whatever the resistance hold dear).
Maybe with ‘own missions/maps’ they mean the bonus missions… …you venture from the story line and get a chance at having your own finale.
Yea, That’s basically what I think they are talking about, after watching the Machinima vid with Paul Wedgewood. So each faction gets its own finale.
Or maybe each campaign has its own set of maps. I understand that they’re not exclusive for the factions since there are only two factions in the game, but they could possibly be exclusive to each campaign, i.e. to each storyline.
No, it’s not difficult, it’s just unclear at this time because the information from the devs has either been contradictory or unclear. In one interview they say the different campaigns are like seeing the story froma different side. Does “story” mean the overarching story of the battle for the Ark, or does it mean a singlular narrative/set of events, told from the characters on both sides of the conflict?
The problem is that it’s hard to infer what they mean by “story” since it’s hard to infer from their comments about the two campaigns. However, I believe that there will be separate sets of maps for each campaign based of this idea; Since the gameplay is objective based, the maps are designed around the mission objectives, and it has been stated that the campaigns will have “new” and “different” missions. Therefore, I’d assume that it would be much easier in terms of writing and design (and better for quality, IMO) to just create new environments for these missions, rather than trying to shoehorn different scenarios into a one shoe fits all map.
It’s really not that difficult guys.
