Mission types

(tokamak) #21
You’re not understanding what I’m saying AT ALL… I’m certain I read that… OK I’ll put it into plain English so that you can understand it:

SECURITY missions:
A B D E F G I J K

RESISTANCE missions:
A B C E F H I J K

Therefore, if you’re playing it as Security, who do you play against when you play mission D if mission D is not in the Resistance campaign.
Yeah you misunderstood that. Around here people rather refer to levels with ‘maps’ and to missions with ‘objectives’

(LyndonL) #22

Ok fine, replace the word “missions” with “maps”. Irrespective, unless I misunderstood something that one of the devs said, it doesn’t seem like it’ll work

(Slade05) #23

Just observe ETQW campaign structure, itll be the same. SD people said a lot of kool things, but in the end its a linear set of maps for each side with counterpoint objectives. Defend/destroy, escort/stop, etc.

(H0RSE) #24

I think he understands that part. His concern is that the devs said that each faction will have unique areas and missions that the other side doesn’t have, so if Security is on a mission that Resistance doesn’t have, how do you play it online against Resistance?

(tokamak) #25

There won’t be faction exclusive maps.

(signofzeta) #26

Is it so that it is faction specific as in, attack maps?

(LyndonL) #27

Are you sure though? I’ve been trying to find the source of the quote (it was a couple of months ago). Maybe it was in a video interview.

I’d rather hear it from a Dev rather than some random member who knows all

(MILFandCookies) #28

Now now, be nice!

(tokamak) #29

As for now the random member who knows all is all you’re going to get. Also common sense helps a tad.

(INF3RN0) #30

Fairly sure there is just one official campaign with dual story lines for both sides playing it. There are however going to be alternate missions outside the official story line for theoretical scenarios (according to an E3 video).

(H0RSE) #31

At 5:32 he starts going into how each side will have different unique missions. Whether they are all bonus levels or part of the campaign, I don’t know.

(INF3RN0) #32

I was kind of wondering if they will have different story line paths depending on if you win/lose each map (since you play a different team each rotation). Would be cool if that was the plan, but then it might also cause some match-up problems if no one else was on the same part.

Definitely talking about secondary missions.

You need to win each map in order to proceed on the campaign.

(H0RSE) #34

lol, I like how you are 100% sure, when he doesn’t give a 100% sure answer.

(tokamak) #35

Yeah I’m that confident there won’t be separate maps for each faction.

(Slade05) #36

The way I see it, you get to play a “bonus” map or two in SP campaign for each side, or every available map in MP.

Maybe those maps don`t fit too well into narrative from the other faction point of view, but devs are reluctant to just throw this work off completely.

Thanks H0rse. I knew I wasn’t going crazy. I thought I’d seen it earlier than that though - been too much happening of late.

The way he says it to me made it sound like different Unique maps. But possible he means objectives. I would have thought he’d have said the word objective though.

Thanks H0rse. I knew I wasn’t going crazy.
Same here.
I started going through all the vids I’ve seen on Brink. I thought there was something on this topic in G4’s videos, but all Mr. Wedgewood said was that there were two campaigns.

(ultraddtd) #39

I don’t think what the Devs have said has been too confusing or vague. They’ve said numerous times that each faction will have their own, separate campaign. There are two campaigns in the game, two story lines, and different maps/objectives/etc… for each campaign. Therefore, when you play the Resistance campaign you’re not playing the same missions from the Security campaign, but just from a different perspective, but you’re playing a completely different story with a completely different set of missions.

Basically, it’s two separate stories that take place near the same time, in the same war.

(ultraddtd) #40

Actually, here’s a quote from a Gamespot interview:

RH: At the beginning of the game, you decide which side you want to fight for in the Ark’s civil war. What’s interesting is that once you finish that campaign, the story will rewind, and you’ll get to play it from the other side. You’ll still use your same character (so you won’t lose all the progress you’ve made buying abilities and unlocking weapons), but you’ll be going through a completely different storyline and going on completely different missions.

While you’re going through either of these campaigns, you can jump around in the storyline at any time, however you want, and even jump campaigns if you prefer. Maybe you’re stuck on a tough mission and want to skip ahead; or maybe you saw a friend come online and you want to play with him, even though he’s on the other campaign. Or maybe you just finished a certain mission and you want to see what it was like from the other side, without having to wait until you eventually make it to the other storyline. The important thing is that we don’t tell you how to play the game; you make your own rules.
