Minimum System Requirements

590 is rumored to be released in a couple of weeks
So it might be worth waiting for that to see if the 570 drops a few £

(LyndonL) #42

I was looking around trying to see any news of imminent releases and didn’t come up with any. Thanks a lot for the heads up

(Shadedluck) #43

Thanks for all the info guys, I ended up getting the last http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130618&nm_mc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel&cm_mmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel--Content--text-_- for 150$. I can’t wait for it to arrive.

(system) #44

I just bought a 560 Ti factory overclocked, should arrive monday. Going on hunger strike for the rest of the month. :penguin:

(Auzner) #45

That card has two PEG connectors. Your Dell Inspiron 530’s power supply will not support that. Time to upgrade the PSU. Seriously, you’re not done yet. When that thing goes under active load the power draw will exceed what the factory power supply is capable of and it will shut down. So even just adapting some molex plugs will not solve things.
sorry, I meant an not the, whisky brain here

but for around $200 I’d get a 6870

http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html
actually [more capable]6950 is selling for about ~$245 and 6970 for ~$320, which is close to recommended prices.

actually, Fermi cards can be Way more interesting, with chips, made on 32/28nm waffers, ie, colder, faster, less power hungry.

True, but the price difference is way over what I’m comfortable spending for my gaming needs.
Wait, 560 Ti is a second generation Fermi card, what are you talking about?

(crazyfoolish) #48

Hmm i am now looking at the GTX 470. Anyone have experience with this?

(LyndonL) #49

Can you stretch your budget by $60? If so try the GTX 570

Comparison.

(Herandar) #50

You can pre-order Battlefield 3 today as well.

(Shadedluck) #51

Sorry I didn’t update that haha. I also got http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Corsair+-+Gaming+Series+600-Watt+ATX+CPU+Power+Supply/1073679.p?id=1218217268656&skuId=1073679&st=corsair&cp=1&lp=1 when it was on sale for 80$. I didn’t really mention that I realized that when i ordered it, but yeah. Thanks for looking out for me

(Auzner) #52

I haven’t kept track of current power supply prices since I recently stock piled a bunch. Corsair is a better than average brand from everywhere I’ve heard so you’re done when everything is installed. Get 2x2GB PC6400 if you ever see it for $40 after rebate. In 2008 that was a reality any given day.

I can honestly say that I’ve seen a video card before. Tom’s Hardware is not as great as it used to be, but most often I agree with their round up articles. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-gaming-graphics-card-geforce-gtx-590-radeon-hd-6990,2879-4.html They write this based on prices and benchmarks they’ve ran. The idea is you get a card a level which performs well but costs only slightly more or a lot less than the tier below or above it.

Haha i already have. The 470 is the most expensive Graphics card i can buy right now. You can call me cheap if you want…

(LyndonL) #54

I would never

Ooo it’s pretty… BUT I’m not so sure about the $US699/€649 price tag!

Can’t wait to see how it benches against the 6990. I hope it drops the 570’s price soon

(A.i) #56

Why buy overpriced card (590) when, hopefully, sometime in November nvidia will release kepler architecture that suppose to be 4x faster? I have 460 1gb factory OC’ed rightnow and its probably bottlenecking the rest of my system

(LyndonL) #57

Because November is 8 months away. One thing you never do with PCs is wait for the next best thing since it never stops. Find something you’re happy with and buy it or else you’ll never be happy, or upgrade each new model and spend a fortune

(Auzner) #58

I did 4850 crossfire almost 3 years ago and it’s still pretty powerful. I think the main wait is on the consoles. 6 months after the first next gen console is out all cards will probably go obsolete soon like we saw in 2004. Anyone now with an 8 card would just be upgrading for less power consumption. I instinctively want to upgrade just because it’s been so long. Before the 4850s I used a 7900GT. I have a feeling Brink won’t require me to upgrade either.

(crazyfoolish) #59

Sorry for the thread revival :P. After months of consideration tonight i shall buy this

And this

If there is something wrong with either of these please speak now or forever hold your peace.

(LyndonL) #60

Seems ok to me. I’m off to the shops to get a 570 tomorrow

The 590’s release didn’t drop the price like I was hoping :frowning:
