Mine tk shouldn't get file complains.....

(Kekojones) #1

I love being an engineer in this game but after a while I realize that many people in your team run over your mine even if they can clearly see the red flags (maybe they are noobs, stupids, etc.).

Mining is one of the things I love most but to make it efectively you have to use the most used paths or paths close to objetives (next to the tanks, etc.

Maybe tks for mines should be an option so servers could deactivate it too. Same thing could be done with dinamites…yesterday I plantet a dinamite at one door and this guy proned next to it. He he he…

(MutantCowOfDoom) #2

you need to keep the complaints for mines in, becasue they can be stupidy placed so you cant get out of spawn, defend an objective, or are in a path that your team contstantly uses. as for other cases ppl occasionaly run over them as they are in a firefight, while running backwards straffing and trying to get a headshot it is a tad hard to see where all the mines are.

(Iamthefallen) #3

Problem with that is that a TKing engineer can mine the hell out of a spawnpoint for his own team and they can do nothing about it. Likewise he could time a dynamite to go off at the spawn point a second after everyone spawns in there… The real TKers are clever at finding loopholes, and they would exploit such a thing. So for a while at least the complaint system has to be left alone and we have to live with the complaints we get over accidental Tks

(Kekojones) #4

that’s why you have Vote kick. when someone is deliveraly planting mines and bombs in the spawn he should be kicked out right away.

(senator) #5

Than the whole complain instrument could be scrapped but I think it worked quite well so far. Just wait a few weeks until ppl settled in and complains for mines will disappear.

A complain is a ‘friendly remainder’ to not do it again (whatever it was) before a player is kicked. And there are always the notorious NO-voter if they see that the TK is in the enemy team :disgust:

I believe this subject was debated before (but I’m too lazy to find the thread). Removing the ability to file a complaint on mines is a bad idea for the reasons that other have cited. I believe that the number of people who file on mine-TKs is getting lower as players become familiar with the game.

The problem is the punk who deliberately steps on mines to file complaints. If you see this try to get another witness (or a few if you can) and vote to kick the punk.

Obviously, when laying mines you run the risk of TKing your teammates. Shortly after the ET-Test came out, I got the boot a couple of times for TKing with mines. It was frustrating, but it quickly abated. I haven’t been TK-kicked since.

One thing may be your placement of mines. You need to place them so that your people can elude them easily. Do not place them so your teammates HAVE to jump them to get passed. If you notice that the enemy seems to be eluding them too easily they have probably been spotted - move them or replace them! No amount of considerate mine placement can prevent a teammate from backing into one or stepping sideways onto one. Its going to happen.

If someone steps on your mines and complains, explain politely that they should not do that. Do not assign the blame to them or piss them off. Labeling them a stupid n00b will not endear you to them. They will continue to file complaints just because they think you are a jerk.

In sum, the system is not perfect, but its pretty good. Removing the ability to file on mine-TKs is not an improvement, its merely a change. Change for the sake of change is usually a bad idea.

I liked the idea of having a vote to kick at tk for team only, to combat the entire other team voting no just because he’s on your team.

Some people should get filed on for mines, just because you have them, you don’t have to put them everywhere. The engineers are just as much to blame in 90% of these cases.

But there are people who will run right over them, even if they see the red/blue flag. If only there were a way to MAKE people RTFM before playing…

(Cybjorg) #8

Filing complaints for an accidental TK using mines only hurts the team, as it reduces your Engineer’s XP.

I planted some mines near the fence on fuel dump the other day. Some n00b walks right up to the fence and blows himself up. I run over to replace the mine and step back to watch the newly spawned n00b run back to the same exact spot at the fence and proceed to blow himself up. Needless to say, he filed on me twice.

The above is an example of pure stupidity. The mines were not in high-traffic lanes and could be avoided easily by Axis team members. It was then that I wished that stepping on “friendly” mines would result in a suicide rather than a TK.

(Brinkman) #9

if they mine spam the spawn just kick the guy out

mine complaints should be removed… same with tnt packs

(wudan) #10

Lol, like the enemy team will vote yes to kick your TKer. Leave the complaints in, and leave the game dynamic.

(Brinkman) #11

yeah having idiot n00bs walk over your strategically placed mines is very dynamic

(Dantastic) #12

My favourite was tonight when an engineer had 3 mines set up at the mouth of the cave next to the fort in the oasis level. Some n00b came up looking down at the mines and activated all three trying to “investigate” the pretty red flags and exploded. It was really funny.

(VampMaster) #13

The one thing people needs to learn, is to stop walking… Fast :), There maybe should be a command to stop dead in his tracks or something.

But peoples, when you hear Click Hisssss. DONT MOVE AT ALL, Call a Engineer like a mad man, but don’t move.

(Veritas) #14

team votes would help remedy the situation…

(Jack) #15

I like the team vote idea!

There is a great server called Hamsters house of fun, where mine TK complaining is outlawed. Actually the whole server community there is awesome. Cheers to Hamster! I played there yesterday and had a great time. Everybody was “Professional” in their demeanour, meaning there were very few files. I even got yelled at when I tossed a grenade into the allied spawn on the beach. Wasn’t done intentionally, I was chasing a cov-ops and I saw the blue shields dissapear above their heads… But I got “warned” and I stopped. And the admin enforces the rules. He was there playing referee.

Shit accidents happen, but I am seriously considering turning off the complaint window. I think I Have filed twice since even the test release. And those two were idiots that blantently came up and starting wasting teammates in the spawn.

My suggestions is find a server and keep playing on it. It seems people are territorial, I know I am. Most of the people I play with I recognize and them of me. We don’t file anything casue we know its not intentinal, and it hurts the team. I gave the newer people I never saw before a piece of the ass yesterday when they kicked our only engie ( who was already an LT) on depot.

People need some common sense when they see that message option appear.

(Swad) #16

People will start learning to not complain for every last TK eventually… unless it’s their intent to ruin the game for everyone. I had it happen to me as a medic yesterday. On Goldrush as axis there was an allied covert ops doing a good job coming into a group of us and exploding a pack or killing a people left and right around where the tank starts. We were all edgy and because of this being watchful for someone tagging behind someone in a way such as he was. Well some new guy on our team as covert ops was very suspicious to me. He did just like the allied covert ops did by following someone around (me in this case), so I layed him out. As soon as I saw it was a mistake, I revived him and got him pumped full of meds and apologized. He complained anyway.

Anyway, the point being is people will get used to the game and not complain every time an accidental TK happens. The newbs will always be complain happy and the verterans will instantly dismiss it unless it’s blatant TKing. Anyone who is in tune with the results of a complaint will realize it’s just hurting the team if it was just an accident (and it happens a lot). I’m not sure how you would address the careless constant TK’ers, though (tossing airstrike signals amongst mixtures of teammates / enemies all the time, etc.–this is just careless).

(Mr_Rabies) #17

I would agree… i’m fewkin tired of noobs just running like idiots over my nicely planted mines for no reason… like they run into them if i put them right infront of the radar parts on radar(defense, of course)… ON THE ENTRANCE… why do they need to go there?
Everyone… if you step on ANY mine… stand still… and call for a medic… and for good measure hit tilde… the other team members might wait for the symbol to go away (if they can see it, i dunno) if you get one, run off and blow him up or something :expressionless:

(Mr_Rabies) #18

i only complain when i get tked for obvious reasons… or someone keeps tking me as a Cov. op… or tk’s me when i repeated yell out V6

noobs get on my nerves
there needs to be a difficult training mode, like america’s army… only harder… weed out the newbs

(Kraut) #19

Mine TK Complaints are too abusable, it makes that a griefer can with little effort kick an innocent engineer who plants mines. Intentionally team obstructing mine-layers could still be kicked via votekick.

(HungryHawk) #20

or, as an alternative, just set cg_complaintPopUp 0 by default… then the noobs won’t complain, because they don’t know how, but those who know their way around a bit in et will be able to file complaints if someone tks really stupid.
