Mine Tactics on Fuel Dump

(Joe) #1

I dislike engineers who lay defensive mines at the fuel depot base gate and side wall , while the tank is still half way through the tunnels.
In this case you should lay all ten mines in a line starting from the tunnel mouth, along the tanks route to slow it down, unwitting allies often cross the line so you will get kills.

The tank has finished the line of mines and is sittineg damaged, lay mines in a semi circle around the back of the tank and along its sides, maintain the semi circle aslong as you can, i once pinned the tank down for 10 min this way, but be careful once enginers anticpate the mines they will try to defuse, so stay near mines under the tree by the tank and pick em off as they try to defuse.

OK semi cicle tactic didnt last, defuse the remaing mines, or get a team mate to step on them if ff is off, then lay all 10 mines with the depot defenses, one at the foot of each door, two on each side of the depot, one at each cut off corner of depot platform, then one at base of ladder, and finally the last one is placed where ever you feel is nessisary. then hide and wait,

hahhaha i love watching engineers feel the rush of entering the fueldump, only to be blown up. you know that happy feeling when you feel youve finally made it, then bam, in all your joy you were foolish.

ofcourse if the allied team is really not doin that well, and theyve been pinned down for over 5 min at the foot of the bridge you can use your mines to defened the constructioin boxes against enginners and plant mines besides trees and by the large rock on the right, to slow progress more.

Post your mines tactics for any map below.

Laying mines in a line along a mover’s path (the tank on goldrush, the tank on fueldump) is a waste of time. If you want to get a decent return on your power-bar investment of laying so many mines, plant five in a cluster. This way, the tank gets damaged and can not move as soon as it hits the first mine–if you spread the five mines out along fifty meters, the tank gets to continue rolling along that fifty meter stretch until it trips that fifth and final mine. Incidentally, this is the best way for the axis to hold goldrush–keep five mines right in front of the tank at all times, and plant the rest of your mines somewhere behind the tank to catch allied engies trying to sneak up and repair it.

In Fuel Dump I always lay mines ‘inside’ the depot gates, so that they can’t be spot by Allied covert ops. Speaking of which, along the way to the depot side breach, there’s a tree halfway the hill on the right, very close to were the tanks final position is. This is a perfect place for Allied CO’s to spot the mines at the back of the depot yard and drop smoke in front of the tank…IF they are not too busy running around in german clothes :banghead:

On Oasis I’ve seen a clanmatch demo (available at Clanbase) of an Axis engineer holding the Old City for the entire length of the game by mining just the entrance below the stairs (the room with the debris) and the end of the cave between Old City and Allied Spawn.

In Railgun a good tactic for the Allies is to mine the sides of the tug, instead of bringing it back.

What I like doing on fuel dump as allie is sneaking through the tunnels and laying mines in front of the depot so when the axis respawn they then all hop the wall and fall on my mines ,great to watch

ill do that in the future, but i do believe once the tank is repaired the engineer will still be close by when the tank is damaged again when it runs into the cluster, hmm but sounds good in theory

two types of mine would be great,
anti personel and anti tank, anti tank would be limited to 5 and they would have huge tnt blast power, and anit personel mines would be more of a grenade blast, as in life anti personel mines dont usually kill only blow off you foot or leg,

Bah! As if mines isn’t an annoyance as it is.

One mine tactic that I see off and on (and use regularly): on Oasis, as allies, After the Old City wall has been blown, there is the overlook that an aggressive axis team will use to rain death down on the allies spawn. I’ll usually put a couple of mines in the dirt, right where the axis have to walk to get up there. It usually stops them from using that area, or at least kills off one or two of them when they try.
Also on Oasis, as axis, right at the tunnel exit by the fort, as the allies come out of the tunnel, there is a dip. If you put a mine, or two right there, its almost impossible to spot, as its below the little rise at the exit. I’ve racked up countless mine kills at that spot.
Fueldump, as axis, if you have a mine to spare, right as you come into the depot through the main gate, and go right, there is a small path between the boxes and the wall. As an allied engy, I use this path to sneak into the depot, with a high rate of success. A mine back there can kill a sneaky engy, or at least alert you to his presence.
Goldrush, as axis, after the bank doors have been blown, there is a little bit of dirt in the hole in the back wall of the bank. A mine there is damn near impossible to avoid, and defusing it will take an allied engy forever, and alert the defenders in the bank to his presence (who can go blow his head off)

I love mines and have found plenty of good spots for them. I really like to plant them on the long road in Goldrush after the tank has passed and then watch the Allies run and crap out on them.

I really love mines. Tried to make love to one once. Big mistake  .

Setting mines for the tank is a waste of an engie’s time. Field ops job should be taking out the tank, but if necesarry engies do get like 8 grenades.

Mines are best for taking out people. Best way of protecting your team on fueldump (as axis early on) is to set em up around the construction boxes. Do not set them next to it, the engie will just stop and diffuse it after he’s already stopped to build the bridge. Remember, the enemy has to move off the land mine for it to go off. Set it up a little before the box, such as in between the tree and the wall (near bridge construction) or if you can between the big rock and the wall.

If you have time, you definetly want to set up a couple mines in fuel dump to stop those nasty little bastards that sneak in. Set them up atleast one outside the door, and several on the inside. The outside one should take out the fools that don’t know how to spot and the inside one’s should stop a good number of the rest.

Best tip I’ve got for mine placement: If they keep running over them, keep putting them back, but move them up or down the field a bit each time just so they never know where it’s gonna hit em.

Oasis has some nasty little spots you can set them in, you just gotta be creative. :uhoh:

After the gate is blown, lay a few mines inside the fuel dump itself (inside the depot defences). Allied engineers will often make a run for the fuel dump once the defences are blown, not expecting mines immediately around it.

I love mines , love diddly love mines

Radar: : Axis - Mine the side door + grass just outside the flag spawn. When pushed back, use at least 4 mines for each radar and the last 2 for tasty spots (cant tell you them all :))

Allies: No major spots - just anywhere youd normally be if you were allies!

Railgun: : - Allies - Mine the Switch profusely, mine the tug doors anywhere it stops & mine the hill path over to the ammo depot / doorways to the wee corridor bit

Axis - not much to mine really, just the shortcuts / routes allies normally take

Fuel Dump: : Axis - Bridge / tank constructables
Command Post & Fuel Dump - techniques already mentioned

Allies: Just under the bit where axis spawn and jump off the wall. Command Post once built, and axis attack route.

Oasis: Allies - Definately mine the lip after the wall is blow - up to 4 mines up and around past the door. The Tunnels.

Axis: Mine the wall and approach to it,
Mine the sandy area on the roof above the flag to stop sneaky engy’s from talking the wall huggin route.
Mine the 4 archways & stairs in batches of 2 mines - just keep on yr toes and replace them when dumb allies trip on them!

Battery: Axis & Allies - Mine the back command post area - whomever gets there first basically

Goldrush: Allies: Mine the Tank Barriers to stop them from being build, mine the main bridge area once the tank & the stairs beside truck barrier 1 has passed to catch any axis floaters.

Axis: Blooming everywhere!!! Mine the front gate and all around the tank and hold that badboy for as long as possibl;e. Mine all the main ally reinforcement routes and once the tank is over the bridge, mine the stairs, barrier, stairs near spawn, truck, disabled tank, everywhere!! Can get LOADS Of kills as they rush the tank

Can any one tell me how far away I am from the closest mine when i get the text “mines have been reported in this area” on my screen.
:???: :???: :???: :???: :???: :???: :???: :???: :???:
How about some anti mine tactics? How to avoid them, and if your unlucky what to do if you cant wait for an engineer to come difuse it for you( as if those xp hunters would take time away from the objectives to help you).

(fattakin) #15

( as if those xp hunters would take time away from the objectives to help you)

Ahem Objectives = Engineer on every map so give us a break… the amount of times ive died repeatedly to get that tank fixed while some covert ladyboys snipe the snow is insane.

Engys need respect

(Bokkem) #16

I love those mines too, but I know MANY people who can’t get used to them. They even set of the ones they plant theirselves! If I play engineer on public, I get at least 3 teamkills per map from teammates who just can’t jump over these tiny flags. They seem like n00b magnets sometimes  In cupmatches mines are VERY useful. I’ve seen many demos at clanbase were a single Axis engineer held of the enemy for the entire match just by planting mines!

To avoid mines jump a lot and take caution on places where you would lay mines if you were the enemy engineer. Walk rather then run in those areas. And if you happen to step on one, you can still survive if your health is full. If you hear the sissing sound, stand still and let your energybar charge. Without moving look below to see where the mine is. Then just press forward useing sprint and immediately jump AWAY from the mine.

A tip for Oasis, there are stone curbs on the side near the wall and also in every entrance gate at the back of the german compound. Jump on them, hug the wall and avoid getting blown away.

You could also clear the path as covert op and respawn as another class onces you’ve spotted the enemy mines.

But by far the best way to avoid mines is to get Battle Sense to level 4, which IMHO is the easiest of all skills anyway. You’ll be awarded with trap awareness and be able to spot the enemy mines and just jump over them.

I think mines are wortless once your enemy has BS @ lvl4. You can check this in the stats screen after a map has finished, by clicking on the players names. Their XP is displayed in the left side.

(TNCK) #17

On that same note… If you see somebody with a lot of XP on your team, and he is jumping around in what is obviously not the easiest route to the objective, it might be safe to assume that he is avoiding mines and you would be wise to do the same.

I can’t tell you how many times I have jumped over the mines guarding the entrance to the axis base on Oasis only to have the engineer who is following me step right on them. :banghead:

(Joe) #18

Ive played with engineers that step on or defuse team mines then relay them so they get the xp. And what about axis and allie engineers in fuel dump when the game has shifted to the fuel dump base they will go back to the river and build/destory bridge, foot bridge,allie/axis mg nest, command post. :banghead: ok command post i can forgive abit because it helps team out, but thats not the reason they rebuild it.

 what makes me angry  is when another engineer will lay his tnt nexts to yours then defuse yours :banghead:

and on goldrush engineers are busy blowing up truck barriers when the whole team is trying to steal the tank. :bash:

(Watchers Eye) #19

I’ve abandoned the strategy of putting mines inside the Fuel Dump gates and the outsides.

Now, I generally lay at the depot team door (inside), at the front and the side by the boxes (one game, this saved us twice because the cov didn’t take the time to check). Also, another mine at the boxes by the second set of stairs. One or two in front of the depot building entrance and at least one by the building exit on the West side.

When the side wall is blown, some are put there and then some random mines on the way to the west defenses, where people are likely to walk.

Outside of the depot, the last cave exit, when allies run up close to the wall, a few there are sure to get some kills.

And it’s fun to put mines at the health/ammo area on gold rush.

You’re comparing engineers with XP whores in general, but the class can’t really help it - it’s just the way people play ET on most public servers.

I agree it sucks if you’re trying to work as a team and reach the objective.[/quote]
