Maps and Gametypes
Because you guyz ares till on the assumption that Brink is uber original and didnt watered down to attract CoD and other crappy kiddo fanbase?

We had like 10 new people here on the last few weeks incoming just to claim that CoD is leet and they asked question each 30 seconds a bout a thing that has been talked about many time, ofc they didnt use the search function and went all aggressive and dumbnut when someone tryed to explain to them, calmly or not, that they need to be a bit more familiar with SD games… So I’ll reiterate, if a TDM can keep these type of guys away from my favorite server i’m all in…

Secondly, I still fail to see how CTF isnt a fantastic teamplay and teamwork oriented mod, you must never have played it or just dont remember of the epic moment you played it because all the arguments are moot so far… Once again I can understand the “its the way the dev want the game to be played”, but this statement is already false as i’m not sure all the dev were up for some of the watered down features we’ll see in Brink, even if it seems more clear and better than 3 monthes away I’m still afraid this game is made to attract many noobies, who will play on obj server, and who will ruin the game for the “purists”, yeah it’s elitist, I gladly accept that…

Anyway, there wont be these mods so who care, they’ll prolly be released later by the community or in a dlc package.

Peace
I just say avoid TDM altogether if they want it go to a TDM game entirely. I also think that the capture the flag element will be in-part included in some of the “taking objective item A to B” of course it would be only 1 side of capture the flag but just as dynamic given maps don’t have to be mirrored.

( I’m also on the “There won’t be any of these mods to who cares” boat, not sure why we feel like explaining it  )

No, that was not my point. It would be naive to expect any IP to be original in a literal sense. What I am against is putting in features simply to cater to the whims of a demographic that is differs from what Brink is about.

Right…isn’t the PC community renown for their mods (granted that doesn’t satisfy the desires of console gamers). Afterall, many games, in fact arguably one of the greatest multiplayer games created was a mod…CS. Everyone needs to be patient. Let SD do what they do best and I’m sure someone in the community will release a DM/TDM mod for everyone.

(Weapuh) #105

Not to mention one of the greatest game communities ever was a free game by SD themselves Enemy Territory.

He prob meant modes not mods, plus read his last sentence…

I agree! it’s way better to focus on simple goals than to please everyone by doing all types of things but all mediocre . . .

So… splash damage! do your thing!

(BioSnark) #108

It is? It’s VIP protection. It completely lacks the trade off of attack and defense whenever one team takes the lead. It lacks cat and mouse with the enemy flag when your team is ahead (in ctf that requires your flag present to cap). Just talking about this makes me want to play ctf. VIP stuff is fine but it’s not as dynamic as ctf. And linear NPC and vehicle VIP protection is worse.

I still don’t get where having a fragment of a gametype buried in objective mode is at all like playing that gametype in a consistent way. It’s like wanting a vodka straight and having it presented to you in a cocktail.

(Weapuh) #110

It’s not really that 2 dimensional, here listen to Richard Ham talk about it. He doesn’t say too much about the depth or strategy involved but reiterates how fun it can be and rewarding.

I could write a whole lot more but there is no CTF so you’ll find out neways :stuck_out_tongue:

(BioSnark) #111

I didn’t say it was two dimensional. I’ve played that objective type many, many times over.

(Weapuh) #112

Well under the right conditions it can turn out just as if not more epic. I do acknowledge the excitement of capping that winning flag with few seconds less, Stresses me out :stuck_out_tongue: I just find it kind of a cheap thrill (as awesome as it is). Not too much has to fall into place to cap flags sometimes, whereas with OBJ mode it feels (to me) more deserved and accomplished, especially when hundreds of hours have gone into practice.

Different strokes i spose, would be neat to see in the future given proper maps be designed for it.

(Herandar) #113

So can we get a Vampire mode? 'Cuz that’d be aweome!

(Iur'Tae'Mont) #114

Only if they fry in the sun like bacon on the stove.

(Cankor) #115

CTF would probably be cool in Brink, but of course they would have to design all new maps so they are symetrical. Yeah, it would be “neat” and a fun diversion, but I’d still rather they spent that time on additional objective maps instead of a whole new mode.

Like everyone else said, we pretty much know it won’t be there so it’s a moot point, but I do understand the sentiment that the more there is the more people will be attracted to it, it’s just that everytime someone says TDM it’s like they are missing the whole point.

I’m happy to wait as long as it takes for the mods, will be playing “real” Brink in the meantime

(Seyu) #116

There may not be a CTF mode in name that requires you to wave flags around but there are modes similar to it.

(DarkangelUK) #117

The only thing really close to it would more resemble 1 flag CTF Threewave style with attackers and defenders, and stopwatch there to have them switch sides.

(tokamak) #118

Yeah that would work.

(Nail) #119

“Capture the Flag”, that would be ok, but how about "Capture an Opposing Player " knockdown, drag off to POW camp, out for remainder of map.

(Herandar) #120

Sounds interesting, but I can imagine player rage at having to sit out the rest of the game.
