Maps and Gametypes

(Zekariah) #1

While waiting in SERIOUS anticipation of Brink’s release date, Ive been pondering Maps and Gametypes for multiplayer.

I’m all for Objective based combat, and stick to Types such as Domination/Search & Destroy in Black Ops or CTF/Territories in Halo: Reach. But let’s face it, the big community out there LOVES their Team Deathmatch.

Mindlessly blasting away at the other team may not help the brain cells, but whats really important is the size of the Brink Online Community.

So far I have only seen footage of multiplayer Objective missions. Can the audience expect a Deathmatch gametype aswell as other Types? (eg. CTF, Territories, etc).

And another thing is the Maps. Container city makes for some intersting layouts, as does the Airport/Ark. But some more eye candy wouldn’t go astray.

Is there gonna be a broader world to Brink than we’ve seen in the trailers? Not saying that what we’ve seen isn’t already awesome! I’d just like to see this game compete with CoD and Halo for map variety.

:penguin:

There is only a single gametype in Brink but each objective, of which maps will comprise several, is varied. I too would have like Brink to offer spins on the traditional basic modes offered in other games. This is something that may be addressed in a sequel.

Yes there will be varied levels. We have only just seen 2 locations out of the entire Ark. Have a look at Brinkthegame.com and you can see a map of the entire Ark and what we’ve seen so far. There is a lot left

Founder’s Tower ought to be awesome!

This game cries for TDM matches with the SMART feature.

(Rex) #5

So Wrong! Just the CoD noobs cry for it.

(Weapuh) #6

I don’t see how taking away aspects from the objective based play and making it solely TDM makes it MORE fun?

(Tec) #7

Another kid that had harsh times playing COD.
Just take a deep breath, It helps sometimes.

(Tec) #8

Nobody said anything about taking aspects from
the objective based play from this game. The objective
mods will still be there.

It looks like brink have a very good fast paced gameplay mechanic
which will fit great with TDM.

More mods more sells.

(Weapuh) #9

…but you are taking away, don’t you realize that Brink objective mode without objectives IS TDM…

(Seyu) #10

There is a reason why the devs didn’t put in TDM and stuff like K/D on the leaderboards. The game is intended to be an teamed objective-based shooter, that is what you will be getting.

If you have played BC 2, you’ll know that DM modes are the one’s that are the least played on. As long as SD gives us what it has been promising, there shouldn’t be a need to add in extra stuff to bribe the CoD demographic.

(Tec) #11

By the way Seyu,
on BC2 Squad DeathMatch is popular mod.

(Murderous Pie) #12

If this is true, what ever happened to QUAKE? those games are mainly DM, and they are some of the ultimate competitive games.

(Weapuh) #13

Ultimate competitive deathwatch games, not objective games with useless DM mods shoved in for no reason, and quake players wouldn’t cry over this because if they are playing quake they know they don’t need a new DM game to play.

I still dont understand what’s your point.

You can make an objective mod with Brink as it is right now
like you’ve said without K/D and a TDM mod with K/D on different or same maps.
Those mods are not related to each other.

(LyndonL) #15

Do you understand what a mod is? The GAME is objective team based…

(Seyu) #16

There’s nothing wrong with DM modes as such but expecting every fps to have one wouldn’t be right. No one wants the game to be more of a success than SD and if the developers feel that TDM stuff isn’t suited for what they want Brink to be, I think we should show trust in their judgment. To me, what they have done by steeping off the line that every other fps follows, is praiseworthy.

‘Mode’ you mean? and I don’t think so, unless you are talking about the console version of the game.

Just used the game’s server browser,
Total servers: 2000
Squad Deathmatch servers: 308
Empty SDM servers: 124 out of 308

(Weapuh) #17

I don’t know why you keep saying mod, the game IS objective based. So they are very much not related to each other, one is what the game IS and one is a strange request for a “I want less of the game mode.”

I guess he means Mode? thx LyndonL

(tokamak) #18

Try any of the two Enemy Territory games and you wouldn’t want it any other way anymore.

(Tec) #19

Sry dude you’re wrong here.

First you’re comparing between 2 different games. You can compare Quake to UT or
Warsaw. Brink comes from a different genre of games.

Looks like Brink bring a new type of gameplay mechanic with SMART.
From videos that i’ve saw the gameplay (only gameplay) looks like a combination
of Mirror Edge COD and killzone 2 and it will fit great with TDM.
