At first this seemed like a whine, just because we haven’t even seen the final product yet, but I understand your concern SCi-Fi. I don’t want macros that allow for “dolphin diving” or “extreme high-speed bunny hopping” either. I’m confident that SD has a hold on the situation, let’s wait and see how it unfolds.
Macro usage & Bunny Hoppers
Please people have a look at W:ET and base your judgements of what can and can’t be done on that. Or even look at Q4 or D3. None of these have what you call “dolphin diving” and I seriously doubt that it will be a problem in ET:QW. This is not BF…
If I whined at something i dont know anything i would hold my hand up,
but seeing ive played this til its death well with me it has as there are loads of annoying factors with that game that if i found on QW i would be extremely unhappy.
Bunny Hopping is annnoyin which ive said.
Macro usage makes me wanna delete it, I played a match once and the oposition used macros to bounce+jump+prone+fire the works as thats all they did to move around. Not only was it frustrating but annoying.
Prone Shooting is another, its where Dice said that when prone your accuracy is higher, only problem is that if you play BF2 now every body is just prone+shoot ie…1st to the ground & shoots wins!! so plz SD if your goin to allow this then allow for inaccuracy for a few secs as anyone would when hitting the floor…
other than that i cant wait cos im bored!!! 2142 is gabbage, Bf2 is ok but
done that got the cap and tshirt…
Why the hell do people assume that QW will be anything like BF, it isn’t, SD is not EA. I tire of people coming here whining about the BF series. This is not the forum for bitching about poor gameplay in another game. Go play W:ET most if not all of those concerns have already been dealt with
quake wars. Quake practically invented bunny hopping. Long live teh bunnies!
NAIL, just cos its been talked abt doesnt mean that it has been sorted, to
open and rethink aspects from the past means ppl are thinking abt the
games aspects & physics.
Gives ppl ideas!
Im not whining abt BF2, im talkin abt Quake wars and issues that came
up with BF2 game that made it unplayable and killed it. So all im doin is
bringing this up so if SD reads and hopefully it doesnt happen twice!!
The point is it never happened before with SD or id so your point is null and void. Its not as if SD are looking at BF and going, “Oh oh we must put that dolphin-diving stuff in, it is uber-cool.”
SD are working off a modified D3 engine and not a BF2 engine so there is an ~0.01% chance of it being in QW.
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again…This is not BF.
As everybody else has told you, go try Wolfenstein:ET, see if the issues that affected you in BF2 are possible in ET.
SD have plenty of experience giving gamers what they want, they’re sure as hell not going to copy any lame BF2 “features”
Sci-Fi, I suggest you actually try scripting for ET, D3, Q4 and see what you can get away with.
How about panzerfaust jumps, then ?
From what I’ve read, there won’t be a panzerfaust in ET:QW. It’s a museum piece already, never mind 50 years from now.
A rocket launcher has been mentioned, so who knows, maybe there is rocket jumping. It would be pretty awesome if you could rocket jump over the vehicle that was trying to run you down :tapir:
In tribes, you could boost with various weapons, but it was still an excellent team orient game. Same for many of the fortress mods. I don’t see any inherent reason that fun games cannot include these things.
btw, You can see the Strogg antitank weapon used a lot against tanks and inf in the latest nvidia 8800 launch party vid from Nov11.2006
No rocketjumps though but maybe bosonic orb jumps
I’m going to miss the bunny hopping inherent in the Q3 engine.
As far as scripts or macros being legal or not, it probably will depend on how the admins from the different games mesh. Kind of interesting to read the forums of different games and see how something can be perfectly legal and accepted in one game and totally vilified in another.
Yes, macros are gay…
As for bunnyhopping/dolphindiving/pronespamming… It is a part of the game and the good players learn how to adapt… That was probably the gayest thing EA could do to that game… Only bad players and pubbers hate bunnyhopping and all that… Learn to adapt… that is all…
ET may not have “dolphin diving” specifically, but there have been scripted trick-jumps and scripted mortar aim. I think most of it has been eliminated by limiting cvars with PB/etpro, but it’s still a valid concern that shouldn’t be dismissed with “this is not BF”.
It may have crouch-sliding. Dunno if it comes from D3 or it’s just a Q4 thing, tho. I’d prefer it not having anything and the stamine not affecting jumping, but only sprinting.
True that… I had to register just to post on this topic.
SCI-FI:
If you think that ET:QW is not going to have ‘bunny hopping/strafe jumping’ then you have obviously never played a Quake universe game. It’s one of the biggest aspects that make the games so great. How you can use your players jumping ability to really get around fast. It’s a skill.
This is Quake, not BF2, not bf2142… QUAKE!…
QUAKE!!!

ETQW is “Quake” in name/universe/setting only. Quake games don’t have an emphasis on teamplay with different character classes and map objectives.
Same for those who are expecting the game to be just like BF.
It’s not Battlefield: Quake Wars.
The key part of the game name is Enemy territory Quake Wars…
