Lots of new players on XBL.. Use some good sportsmanship.

Yeah, that was a crazy match. Those guys went from totally rolling us through the first few Obj’s to being unable to even plant a single hack box at the last Obj. We had that area on lock-down. They DID try to get in there initially, rolling in with groups of 3 or 4 mostly going to our right, but we held them for the first 8-10 minutes. That’s when half of them switched to snipers hoping to provide some long range support or maybe just frustrated about dying 10 times in a row. That was a fun 15-20 minutes of defense for sure.

They should have run with maybe only 1 or 2 long range guys at max with one guy manning the balcony turret and the other as either a sniper or heavy with EZ Nade raining down the pain. The rest should have coordinated a 6 man attack. Two attack the garage door, 3 attack the side/back door, 1 medic hang back a bit and chuck a Laz or revive when needed. Also, if they had a soldier or two roll in with flashbangs, followed by molotovs/nades, and a few Lobster shots, they could have possibly gained control of the Obj. Especially since we had two bots out and MrHandyJ capping ComPosts and spawn camping while the rest of us were trying to D.

Oh well, I hope they learned something.

I wish the PS3 and Xbox were playing together, I’d love to play these amazing matches with you guys…

I WANTZ TO PLAYZ WITH YOUZ!

(thesuzukimethod) #43

to be clear. “giving” the first objective is as much a selfish move on my part as it is generous. I want the challenge and the fun of playing the next objective, and if an auxiliary benefit is that newer players dont quit never to return because we didnt spawn camp them, so be it.

a couple other suggestions. if your group of folks are regularly stomping all comers, play FF-on…the game’s skill cap gets pushed up a bit if you are penalized for careless shooting, and most new players avoid FF-on matches while they are learning. old-skool now has team caps of 8 iirc, so you can still go 8v8.

edited to add: or play stopwatch. it’s funny when the tables are turned and you get spawn camped by the team you just spawn camped. lol

Doood! Economy sucks, people are putting up their xbox 360s on Craigslist/eBay for like $50-$100, sometimes with extra controllers AND games.

Buy it. Buy it now! If you are under 18 and make no $$$, go mow a few yards or ask your parents to trade extra chores for allowance or something. Or, grow and sell certain herbs… to me, I pay cash!

GET TO THE 360 CHOPPAH!!!

(RabidAnubis) #45

lol.

Joking, I’m not paying for live.

XD

I love you!

For as much as I play my 360 over my PS3, the $5 a month for Live is worth every penny.

My poor PS3 only gets used to play Sony exclusives, (God of War, Killzone, Uncharted, Resistance, and soon Starhawk) and also the NHL Game Center.

Sorry Sony… more people are on XBL. I have 15 ppl in my PSN friends list and like 100 in my XBL list. Half of those in my XBL list are RL friends as well.

(RabidAnubis) #47

XD. Let’s not do a console war.

Either way, there are new players on PSN too, so this applies to both…

i just got 1 month free for just making a live account which is awesome but then i checked the prices for the full year, i can probably pay that if i dish out 10 every month in a piggy bank. but i don’t know what live has to offer that makes it worth that much money.

(nephandys) #49

It’s only $60 USD/yr, so if you put aside $10 USD a month you can have Live for the year and $60 left over. You can easily keep getting free months, but you’d have to change GT. Just look it up on Youtube. You can also get a Family 4 Pack of Live accounts for $100 for the year. That’s a great deal if you and your significant other play or something.

For me Live offers nothing other than MP gameplay which on the PS3 is free. For others though it’s also access to Hulu Plus, Zune, Netflix, etc. However, as far as the people I know IRL everyone and their mom has a 360 while I think 1 guy I know has a PS3. So that was the dealbreaker for me. What can I say? I want to play with my friends.

I don’t understand why you would make a team based game without a lobby system. It’s like having an FPS game without guns.

I do have to say that COD games are really really dumbed down and tuned to the masses and if you have several people using Team work in a cod game like they use it in Brink you’ll see that most of the Maps are unbalanced and all the areas can be spawn camped quite easily.

I feel that if developers don’t start making more games like Brink the Gaming community is going to be more dumbed down then before.

It’s kind of like what has been happening at schools for decades. When Schools/colleges first open in areas where people didn’t have an opportunity to learn the graduation rate increased for years until it hit a Ceiling and everyone had an opportunity to learn but now the Graduation rate is slowly decreasing and the only places that the graduation rate isn’t changing at are the places that dumb down the course work more and more each year. With that being said I think Brink is a bit ahead of its time, and that COD is making subtle changes to the matchmaking more and more each game starting with COD4. COD 4 we had Wep attachments, Equipment, Special grenades and Frags. MW2 we could have 2 wep attach, Pro Perks, and it started to introduce small groups of players to team work with being able to choose killstreaks like UAV, counter UAV, Harrier and the EMP. Blackops is less team based but introduces a currency system and the ability to use equipment to jam radars, track movement with video cameras and enhances the radar with a motion sensor.

Most of this stuff is already in Brink but in a different format and the fact that when you level up you get an Ability point to buy a “Perk” and the fact that you can have multiple perks in the same category seems completely preposterous to people who were only recently introduced to being able to buy guns and weapon attachments. On top of that is the fact that people hear you’re able to lay a mine down and it’s hidden to the other team or that you can place a sentry gun down wherever when ever you like or that a Soldier can use 4 different types of explosives and that he can use 3 anytime in game or that the Operative can use a UAV whenever or he can disguise himself as any enemy or that a Medic can revive someone when they’ve died or enhance their sprint or make them invulnerable. This game was obviously meant to entice a small population of people who like complex games compared to those that are currently on the market and if you were to try and tell someone the features of this game they would think that you were really really into it or they would be overwhelmed with the amount of stuff in it and think that it is just way to complicated.

(thesuzukimethod) #51

they’ve addressed the lack of lobbies as a budget issue. tradeoffs were made. one of the “offs” was a lobby system. there are plenty of acceptable workarounds. (see a number of threads here that discuss both the limits (the Rahdo thread, anyone where exedore gives his .02) and the workarounds. Ps3 friends, community game night, etc.)

the game’s setup means that if you just wanna be a killer, you better be pretty f-ing good, and you better be prepared to die a lot…the COD-centric players probably have the former down pretty solid, but the latter eludes them. better to take out the objective class and the medic while dying yourself than picking off the support class players while the medic keeps the engi rolling. too much cover fire sniping, not enough team pushes on the objective room = failures.

to bring this back OT. picking on the COD camper/snipers is a-ok in my book. let em have it. it’s spawn camping new players that are just trying to figure it out that gets me. if you’re that good, play old-skool, play stopwatch…etc. or split up your amazing team to help out the randoms that are just learning and to give yourself an actual challenge…you’ll both get better at the game instead of them quitting and you getting complacent.

(mute) #52

I and many people I play with let nubs through objectives so they dont get fed up with the game. It often requires using a lobster to knock our own players or bots from defusing or repairing.

I’m always on the winning side of EVERY console war discussion because I have owned every major console since the mid 80s. Yeah, I’m kind of a nerd, big whoop, wanna fight about it?

It helps to have a tech geek for a dad while I was a kid, then later, a good job in the videogame/tech industry, and also a cheap standard of living.

The only other expensive “hobbies” in my life are ice hockey, bar hopping, and dating women. I am slowly weaning myself off of frequent bar hopping and dating women, as they both lead to an empty bank account and lots of headaches.

Ice hockey is still on par with videogaming, but the older I get, the longer injuries take to heal. More time for videogaming I guess.

Back on topic: I’ll be on tonight, but probably not until 8-9pm PST as I am busy at work getting our games ready for the holiday season. Any newbies on the West coast, feel free to hit me up with your XBL gamertag and I hope to see you on later.

My dad is a farmer you lucky man!

DANG YOU!

(SinDonor) #55

Hahahaha, I was doing this last night while trying to let the newbs escort their bot on CC. One of my teammates not in my XBL party kept shooting at the bot, so I was knocking him down and dancing in front of him with my heavy. I make a good bullet sponge.

It’s good to see new players on Xbox live and psn. I hope continue to grow at a nice steady pace.

As far as the COD players coming over to play brink. I think they don’t realize that it’s a different mind set/attitude adjustment when playing brink. Sometimes I think the the KDR thing plays into head a bit even though brink doesn’t have KDR or TDM but it does somewhat. Another thing is that they don’t realize how to work a choke point as a team instead they all snipe from a distance in which never works I played in match like this about a month ago on sec tower as the resistance and i was pretty upset.

Anyways I glad numbers are up and I will do my part to make new players feel welcome.

(m10363) #60

lol i saw your comment on PSN.

ive noticed it too, on CC the other team were obviously new players and didnt know what to do. so i didnt shoot them and tried to let them move forward, but they wouldnt repair the bot. so i messaged every guy on their team to repair it -__-
