List your top 3 Brink issues....constructively.

(Hyrage) #61

What are you talking about? You have plenty of tools already to work as a team and the pacing of Brink gives you more than enough time to communicate.

Buffing just ends up being a superficial feature. Brink would shine much more without it. Plus, it creates situations in which many players end up being powerless and that’s the complete opposite of a great, challenging, fair & competitive game.

  1. glitches for the operative.
  2. not enough side objectives
  3. you die too fast yet the other players take forever to take down/ wasting a whole clip to kill an incap. (two to the chest or a shot to the head would be enough.)

In other words you hate medic and want to kill the revive feature.

(ragnak) #64

Top 3 technical issues:

  1. Performance(as low as 30 fps and thats not even stable)

  2. Sound(can hardly hear anything other than myself)

  3. Netcode(seems random at times, battlefield syndrome when you see blood but nothing happens)

Gamplay issues:

  1. Damage model(too much spread + high damage on some guns = lotto not to mention other balance issues, OHK for example)

  2. Press “f” auto follows, auto smart and other **** that never should hit pc gaming.

  3. No SDK and other promised options(first person spectator, demo record etc).

(BiigDaddyDellta) #65

Oh no I love medic, you rack up tons of XP being a medic. but, I don’t like trying to take down a team in a choke point and not being able because you have to shoot an incap MORE times than an active player.

  1. No lobby. Joining your friends’ games via Steam is awkward. Most of the time you end up in the enemy team and can’t switch to your friends. This game is all about multiplayer and I wonder how SD forgot to implement the most basic thing in this game. Have a look at L4D matchmaking to see how it should have been done.

  2. Sound bug, especially during the plane-map. Most annoying thing in this game is the sound bug occuring frequently on every map and 100% on the map with the plane. This is a no-go in a released game. It’s more than a week since release and still no fix.

  3. Turrets are useless. It takes ages for them to target and react. Sometimes you just run in front of them and they don’t do anything at all. Have a look at TF2 to see how a turret should be working.

There are so many things missing/game feels like a beta (unfinished/unpolished)
How about a chat box to communicate with teams after a match?
No possibility to change characters or to adjust them after a match.
In a game where you need to switch class quite often, you can’t switch to your character, who got certain abilities. This is kinda anti-fun.
Some maps are unbalanced.

Looks like SD was living under a rock up until 10 minutes ago and never had a glance at other successful shooters since QW:ET. People are spoiled these days and they don’t like paying 50 bucks for a multiplayer beta with awkward matchmaking from 1995.

  1. Lagg.

  2. Lagg.

  3. LAGG!

Honestly I would be absolutely loving this game if I could play it and had people to actually play against, so number 2 would actually be matchmaking, but then again this is pointless if I can’t play the game.

It took me 3 attempts to find a game that wasn’t laggy today, then we had host migration and the game became unplayable again.

It’s a damn shame, because the longer SD wait the more people will quite simply move on, and the community ( and this game ) will die out before christmas.

I have faith in SD, but even now that is starting to wane. I would really like to know if I’m going to have to wait weeks or months for SD to sort this out, because I could really do with actually getting a game out of my money.

Personally if I don’t see improvements after the June DLC I’l be out, and I won’t be buying a SD game again, a company with great gameplay ideas, and a great artistic design, but seemingly without the know how of how to put those into a well made game engine.

RTCW.ET: Putting their ideas into a tried and tested engine worked out awesome.

QW.ET: Yet again great ideas, however the engine and general gameplay left a lot to be desired.

Brink: Awesome ideas, awesome gameplay, hampered by endless technical difficulties.

It used to be that I was more frustrated at SD for releasing the game as is and gimping this games awesome potential from the start, but recently I’ve been getting annoyed at myself for actually holding on to the game on the chance it’l be sorted.

For xbox 360

  1. Framerate/lag issues/textures

  2. Lobby

  3. Aiming. Its total crap. Its dodgy, difficult to manage and the aim assist often commandeers my gun and doesn’t care one bit about where I wanted to shoot.

Also, I would at least like to see how many kills I got. (Attention morons on the internet, I would like to see my kills only, not KDR. Don’t jump down my throat because you have a hard on for “pwning” people.)

EDIT: Your sound design needs some changing. I would like to stop going deaf because I got shot and I would also enjoy your game exponentially more if the radio transmissions would NOT MAKE MY EARS BLEED.

Thank you,

  1. More control over your control and UI settings. One button to do everything in a game like brink is patently absurd.

  2. Less spread. I want there to be skill involved in firing the weapons.

  3. Lobby and the ability to chat between matches.

  4. Hitsounds.

(Alex the plamf) #71

1: I would like to see a lobby system, I would be happy to wait the extra time if I knew I could go into the game with a full team rather than the bots

2: If not an ally a.i improvement then a downgrade on the enemies aim. it seems I am constantly being wasted after struggling to take down one enemy with my already dwindling ammo

3: definately get rid of the auto aim
the a.i. is programmed for the hardcore gamer with the amount of enemies challenging even the most seasoned, the guns aim and shoot like crap. all of these things are making the game more difficult, which would make sense if they didnt suddenly throw in auto aim

a game mechanic reserved for the fps newbie seems totally alien in this game and actually handicaps my aim

this is something which also becomes frustrating when I am trying to heal or hit an objective but I start chasing the nearest ally to buff his weapon/health

(Brandmon) #72

Technical issues (performance wise) and lack of aspects that were in older ET games such as voice chat prominently come to mind. Can’t comment too much about the balance since the performance was too much of a burden.

(PillowTalk) #73
  1. INVISIBLE PLAYER BUG/EXPLOIT!!!

  2. Weapon Balance (or rather, IMBALANCE; I include the stupidity of turret tracking under this as well)

  3. Poor map design

(zicogja421) #74

Not considering any technical issues (lag, bad framerates, no sound, etc.) that people might have, I would say that the top issues in the PC version of Brink are (probably in this order):

1. The undesirable effects of the do-it-all use key, including accidentally performing unintended actions because you happen to be close to a certain player or object and having your movement controlled by the game at all. I think the first issue could be fixed by implementing a weapon/item bank and allowing for different types of actions to be binded to different keys. As for the game controlling your movement, I think that whatever benefits it might offer are greatly outweighed by the simple fact that it can often force you to look and move to places that you don’t want to look or move to just because you want to help your team out. And this can lead to annoying combat situations.

2. Lack of performance-friendly and competition-friendly customization options. In particular, you should be able to customize your HUD and video settings a lot more than you currently can.

3. Bad sound localization. The sound localization seems to be better in ET, which was made 8 years ago. In particular, I often find it hard to tell where gunshots are coming from, even when someone is shooting from just a few feet behind me. I also find it hard to hear footsteps and where exactly they are coming from.

4. No demo recording. This is especially important for competition, as it makes the detection of hackers much easier.

5. No first person spectating. It’s fun to be able to spectate your teammates after you die in first person because you are able to see what they see and how they are shooting or performing other actions.

6. Lack of manual voice chats. Not only did manual vsays add to the fun of playing ET and ET:QW, but they also helped players to coordinate their actions.

7. Bad in-game chat implementation. The global chat is the same color as the general info text, so it is easy to miss when people send a global message. Also, the width of the chat space is very small, making it somewhat awkward to read longer messages. Also, like many others have suggested, in-game chat should be allowed during the cinematics (which, by the way, players should be able to disable) and basically at all times when a player is connected to a server (besides when the map is loading). Making it hard for players to communicate via text chat during the game just takes away from the social aspect of the gaming experience and makes players feel somewhat disconnected from one another.

8. The obtrusiveness of the objective wheel. While not a HUGE issue, I do find it annoying that the wheel takes up the screen and forces me to do something with my mouse other than changing the orientation of my character. Maybe they could implement an objective menu similar to the vsay menus in ET, where you have to just press a certain combination of letters or numbers to pick which objective you want. That way you can keep looking where you want to look while you quickly pick an objective. Like someone said in another post, I can’t imagine that they would have designed the objective-picking system in this way if the game had been designed solely for PC.

9. Gun recoil, spread, and damage. This might be ranked higher on my list, but I don’t know all the facts yet. I have heard things like the spread of the guns is too random and too excessive, and I have kind of experienced this, but I need to pub more to really get a feel for any nuances with recoil and spread. I have noticed that iron sighting and crouching don’t really seem to help my accuracy much; I tend to get better results just by strafing and firing from the hip, which leaves me wondering if the gun/shooting system is perhaps flawed. The shooting does, in certain situations, certainly feel somewhat random, but maybe it is something that can be mastered…

10. Bad server browser filter system. It should be a lot easier to find the kind of server that you want to find.

(Claverleykid) #75
  1. Being on defence can be boring, be good to have neutral maps with both defencive and offence objectives for both sides. I saw someone say “The resistance want the boat, but the security want to destory it” would be good.
  2. Lobby system and matchmaking. Want to play with my mates and real people with out having to do a random search and hoping to get lucky.
  3. more maps and modes. Which DLC will be doing.

(GeneralGideonx) #76
  1. Audio bug that causes the sound to constantly drop in and out.
  2. Unbalanced weapons SMGs over powered, Heavys under powered.
  3. Terrible friendly AI, would be nice if they put of some sort of fight and helped once in a while, I rarely get buffed by them and they spend a whole lot of time on secondary objects while we loose 2 vs 8 fights on the primary (friend and I played on hard last night and I saw 1 enemy kill 3 Allied bots solo who all were shooting and apparently missing him, and a friendly medic danced :stroggbanana: on my head rather than heal me).
My new #1 complaint

is where did this game come from? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyXOt4ujJac

Because thats not even something the game in my xbox could have been derived from. Thats like, Brink 2, 2 years from now right?
How the hell is that an 18 and im banned from watching it when BRINK is an 16?

(shadyadi) #78
  1. Autobalance that actually works, the teamstacking in freeplay is atrocious. Half the games happening wind up basically being co-op rooms currently.

  2. Disabling Aim-Assist in Freeplay

  3. I am replacing a request for more hats, with a request for a ‘vote for new host’ on consoles.

(Ark_peasant) #79
  1. No sound bug *** fix incoming ***

  2. Chokepoints map design
=> we don’t have an “Ubercharge” to break strong defenses (Adrenaline Boost is too short and weak, and enemies can easily dive/slide behind cover)
=> we don’t have “Crits” to add randomness to the calculated defense health-points plan.
=> Medics behind strong defenses can easily revive downed teamates without risking their life.

  3. The " F " feature (F lag, F autofocus mistargeting)

Bonus :

a) Crashes (error 8)

b) Objective wheel feature (forced autofocus, no menu-style alternative)

c) An actual server browser (protip : it exists since the late-90’s, which was like, more than 10 years ago =D)

(system) #80

Hi everyone.

I’ve been playing Brink for a week now and my main issues are the lack of pre-game lobby and graphics quality on Xbox 360.
(I’ll only explain the latter since the other has its own thread on wich I don’t have any more to add and I also know that the main issue for many is the lag, but I only got a few games with it and just quit to play another one without problems, so …)

Every time I launch the game, the menus look great, the character customization and weapons selection have awesome textures (whick sometimes take time to appear BTW) and I love the art style but then … I actually start a game.
In play, I got textures taking too much time to appear (even with the first patch and the game installed) : I look right, and it takes about 1 second to appear, then I look left and it’s the same thing … and I re-look right … and again!
It’s not “that” annoying since you can still play but it really makes this game sub-standard graphically (and more after having played Gears of War 3 beta)

My other graphic point is that I really think that screen resolution is far too low.
I mean, other characters are aliased too quickly (I’m playing on a 42" 1080p flat TV).

I’m not complaining just to complain : I’ve tried to think about it to be constructive (as I really like Brink mechanics and would really like it to be improved).
I think these issues (if corrected one day) would first need a patch but I was also wondering if a free texture DLC would not help ?
I mean, I’ve seen this idea on Fable 2 & 3 with languages packs.

The installed game “only” takes 5.6 GB on the HDD and it seems not enough to me with this kind of graphical problems.
I hope I’m not the only one to think so but I really wouldn’t care if it needed 10 GB or more on the HDD for Brink to look like the promo videos that made me bought it (which I’m pretty sure now, must ALL have been run on a PC with hi-res) :

  • No textures poping during games (more loading times before the match ?)
  • Other characters really recognizable without being forced to be this close.

Anyway, thanks for reading.
