ok resently i been playing games and i end up getting promoted for no reason…
i.e im shooting someone, dont kill them, or just before i do kill them i get promoted…
Any reason for this?
or is it just the ET gods cheating on my Behalf?

ETpro does that. Very Irritating :banghead:
Many a times I stopped shooting when it happens…and I get owned.
Guess they calculate XP differently
It’s Battlesense.
If u are in a fight conflicting damage and receiving damage ur battlesense will rise, and when it reaches a certain level u will get promoted…
It’s not Etpro, it’s standard for ET.
There is a setting in ETPro to calculate Light Weapon XP damage based and not kill based as usuall.
So, when the server has enabled it, you can increase Light Weapon skill w/o killing anyone.
itt should be in the ETpro documentation/bible shouldnt it? it might just be a feature you cant turn off
The (server) cvar is b_damagexp. Set it to 1 to enable damage based XP.
You will get 1XP per 50HP damage and additionally 1XP for each kill (default ET behavior is 3XP for a kill resp. 5XP for a headshot kill).
There are also some topics in the bani forum about this, e.g. here.
Hmmmmm so do you not get the Extra 2 for a head shot??? so no benefit for killing them with a head shot?
How many kills do you have per map (with light weapons)? 50? 100? And what is your headshot ratio? 10%? So you have around 5-10 headshot kills per round, resulting in 10 - 20 extra XP.
On the other hand you do usually more than 100HP damage per kill (enemy players can have 140 or more HP, they have evil medics that heal wounded enemies etc.), so I think that evens it out: at least 2XP for 2x50HP (or more) damage + 1XP for the kill = 3 or more XP for a kill (in average).
And headshots do more damage (e.g. see this chart from RtCW & ET 4 Newbies), so you will get extra XP for all headshots and not only for kills with a headshot.
Check your detailed stats after some rounds in console (or do a /statsdump resp. a /statsall) and calcuate what system would work better out for you.
There is also a similar question in the bani forum, look for a post the user Fred.
hmm, quit often 1 get 20-30 head shots a round so its a little more … Thats 2 levels of Light weapons :s
You only get the extra XP when the final shot - the shot that kills the enemy - is a headshot.
So when the headshot ratio is 10%, then only 10% of of the kills are headshot kills in average (you have x kills with y hits, 10% of the y hits are headshots, so 10% of x kills are headshot kills).
2 levels of Light Weapon is 50XP (from level 0 to 2). 50XP is the extra XP for 25 headshot kills. 25 headshot kills equal 250 Light Weapon kills (with 10% headshot ratio).
hmmm well i dont know about you but my 1st 1-2 shots are target practice then my final is head shot… id say of my head shots at least 90% of them are the killing shot…
What’s the point in not making every shot a head shot if you are able? I must be missing something (other than the enemy)
Gerbil no you dont understand… i start sooting at the target and then zero in on the head…
Sometimes i do get 3 shots in head (usely when im behind them)
I prefer to kiss them on the cheek - they invariably /kill in shock and I waltz into the bank to make my withdrawal
