Level 4 Covert Ops skill next to pointless...

When you already do a hundred damage from behind and the stabbing is insanely fast, there doesn’t seem to be much of a point to the level 4 Covert Ops skill “assassin”. If you have the time to get one stab off, there’s an incredibly huge chance that you’ll have the time to get another stab off immediately afterwords…

I think that covert ops should be the ones doing the 100 damage with knife stabs regularly (take backstab ability away from other classes).

I think covert ops Assassin should do what it has now (the instant kill backstab), but also it should negate level four field ops skill.

Maybe I’m completely wrong, but I think that Level 4 covert ops also get to fire non-silenced weapons without losing their uniform (assuming no one is watching them)

At least, that’s always been my experience.

Ahm, no… you’re wrong, Kyleb… any covert at least to 3 who fires an fg42 for example WILL come out of uniform.

To point whore covert ops the best way is to kill like 3 or 4 enemies… gib each, take their uniform, then fire a non silenced weapon and you WILL come out of uniform, so then you take the next one, fire, take, fire, take…

I’m not entirely sure if you can fire a non silenced weapon at level 4 and not come out of uniform, but I wouldn’t doubt it. I’ll check more into it.

doh, i overlooked the “non-” in that post. :bash:

pretty sure no covert can get away with firing a non-silenced weapon without loosing the uniform although i rarely use the fg-42 and only take the silencer of the pistols when i accidentally double tap the damn button.

my suggestion for level4 covert ops is to have him be undetectable by enemies like he is normally at close ranges, only have him be detectable with any field ops or a person with level4 battle sence.

Its good that its good to be covert and bad

ITS good, noobs dont fully understand it so you dont have to really worry about your whole team being a bunch of 5 year olds running around in the enemies uniform trying to stab each other

Its bad, cuz they will figure it out someday :bash:

If it makes it so you can fire unsilenced weapons whithout losing disguise, what’s the point of that? The FG-42 is a piece of crap that is only some-what good because of its rate of fire. All the other weapons are silenced, so it’s not a very big advantage.

All the other classes get some incredibly useful ability while coverts does pretty much nothing… I just want to see them get something useful for their forth ability. I also think that level four Field ops ability is kind of cheap, it takes out all of the skill of spotting an enemy covert ops and lets spamming newbies do it just by looking at you…

I saw someone doing this while limboed the other day, wouldn’t be bothered but there was an enemy engie doing his dynamite stuff closeby … but this covops point whore couldn’t of cared less about that stupid objective stuff :confused:

The level 4 Field ops really isn’t that bad, to immediately detect an enemy. Plus I mean… even at level a Field Ops is one of the most powerful especially with a command post… artillery up the ass. Double strikes… jesus.

i thought you could stab anyone anywhere and it would be a kill with a level for covert ops… didn’t have to just be in the back head area. .like stab their shoe and boomdead

I once killed a covert ops with mortar. The moment I saw that my ammo-giver fieldops was knifed, I raised the mortar up and fired at 90 degree. One moment afterwards he was already plugging the uniform off my dead body, only to get killed thereafter :slight_smile:

Brinkman, it’s an instant kill only from behind. The point is that every class can basically do this already only it takes a second stab which really isn’t hard to pull off…

laff um where do i start. You can snipe with it and use it like a mg. As a cov op you should single out enimies when you can. The fg is a very powerful weapon and when you get quick reload it becomes one of the best in the game for me. i have taken down 3 people in a matter of seconds with it. if you spam at semi close range and keep moving your going to hit them quite a few times and cause panic in them. reload (which takes like a second with improved reload) and finish them off. Now as far as skills go there is only 1 thing i would like to see change and that is lvl 4 should be something like your team sees you in your reg uni and other team sees you just like one of them once you steal uni. And the name pops up faster so they dont detect you. this would create less tks which is a c ops worst nightmare. in my experience playing a c op it is alot more useful to the team to spot landmines and destroy structures. mabye a little spawn killing with the satchel 2. we are more like ninjas we support by bring quick destruction to mg nests and command posts. also to sneak in doors. not to go around like killing machienes. tis true a c op wont have much exp unless hes on a map like fuel or oasis where one can spot several mines but it is a very crucial part of the team.

Can anyone (that knows what they’re talking about) confirm that the level 4 does anything other than the improved backstab (which is fairly useless, since every other class or a Covops <4 can do the same with a double backstab that takes about the same amount of time). I’d like to see level 4 changed such that you don’t lose your uniform on a backstab, even if in view of an enemy. Dunno how much chance we have of seeing any gameplay changes though.

I agree that there probably should be more “reward” for reaching lev 4 covie… but I love when I get to lev4, Assasin. I find that I can be running full speed and knife enemy in back without even stopping…Bam there dead :eek: , they don’t even know what hit 'em nor does it seem to tip others off as easily. I’ve killed 3or4 in a line like this, give it a try, just dont run around with the knife all the time looking suspicious.

1.) If an enemy SEES you injuring an enemy player while you have a disguise on, EVEN if the weapon is silenced, and EVEN if it is the person you are shooting at, you WILL lose your disguise. ALSO, you will lose a disguise IF you shoot an unsilenced weapon, EVEN if no enemy is watching.

2.) I believe that the lvl 4 cov ops ability is very unbalanced in comparison to other classes. FOR EXAMPLE: Medic gets a needle which makes them near invincible for 10 seconds. Field ops gets enemy recognition, which doesnt make a big difference for me, but helps those who are worse at spotting cov ops. Soldier gets an SMG WITH their heavy weapon. Engineer gets a FLACK JACKET, giving them a full 50% reduction of damage resulted from splash damage. Our covert ops gets a dumb backstab trick that is utterly useless. Reasons:

A.) Wow, now it take half as long to kill someone with my knife. This may have redeeming value if the knife took 1-2 seconds to swing once, but considering that it stabs about 4 times a second, i can now kill my victim in 1/4 of a second instead of 1/2. How many people do you know who can jump up from a prone position, whip around, and shoot off 3 headshots in 1/2 a second?? Or, how many people do you know who can do this while manning an emplaced MG-42??

B.) By the time you get covert ops lvl 4 (This depends on when you get it), enemy fld ops will usually have lvl 4 signals (If they are any good). Now its a helluva lot harder to infiltrate enemy lines (Especially on fuel dump).

C.) Backstabbing is only really usefull when your in a small room or secluded area where no one else is watching. If anyone with E.T. or RTCW experience catches a glimpse of you standing over a body with a knife, expect a full bullets in the head.

D.) Killing with an SMG or Akimbo pistols nearly equals backstabbing. If you pull off headshots, you’ll kill them nearly as fast as the stabbing, yet have the ability to shoot at range if they escape, and finally…

E.) It doesnt make a difference if you use a knife or akimbos when killing someone in relation to their disguise. If they have their back to you, you wont lose your disguise.

So, in conclusion…

LVL 4 COVERT OPS SUCKS!!

Yeah, the “drive-by” has some fun applications. But compared to Level 4 Soldier/Medic/Engineer/Field Ops (especially the first 3), Assassin is extremely weak. You can have much the same effect with the sten and some rear headshots, and you don’t have to switch to the knife and run up behind someone while they’re moving. Medic/Engineer/Fieldops level 4 all give a unique ability that’s pretty useful; level 4 Soldier lets you get out of the soldier’s biggest weakness (lack of versatility). Level 4 Covert Ops lets you do something that every other class (including level 3 Covops) can do already anyway (just a 1/3 second quicker).

Hmm, how about this?

Since any serious modification to the upgrade would require client patching, what can we bet the shrubby types of the world to add? For instance, could shrub make it so any covert reaching lvl 4 suddenly has no “wobble meter” ?? I mean hey, you kill for a living, I bet you can put that scope to your eye pretty fast now. :slight_smile: That’s just an example; why not try to come up with ideas we can have implemented without waiting (wishing, praying) for SD to do something.

I think shrub is completely pointless, gren war whoo, and all the assorted silly shit… but you gotta admit, the lvl 0 field op not being able to hit B on the run, and the team damage modifier make all the goofy mods tolerable. (except that powertrippin’ censor command - no word should ever get anyone killed or kicked - just filter it out and not display it, you freakin egomaniac.)
