Knockdowns

(madoule) #41
Unfortunately, there are many cases where backstabbing is used where there is no particular misconduct on the part of the victim. If insta-kill backstabs can be used in open combat, it opens up a large jar of worms. Two people trying to manoeuvre behind one another at high speed can just feel a bit weird and disorienting. Weird-and-disorienting followed up by instant death is pretty sucky. You need to understand why you’ve been killed, or it feels like an act of God.

We did try some other things early on (essentially an anti-camper melee kill, where you have to remain in the “shadow” of the oblivious opponent before you’re allowed to instant kill), but it’s kind of over-working the principle: being behind someone who is standing still and focussed in the wrong direction is practically already a kill for free. You don’t really need an extra move for it. We just like the idea that even in that situation, there’s a bit of fight-back for the victim - a slim chance that they might get out of the situation they’ve offered up to would-be assassins…
oh sorry, just found your post here. sound arguing and again proves the impression that you at SD teased your brains quite a lot over tiny FPS standards, that seem obvious. thanks for the sight …

Why should people not learn the hardway…
I have been backstabbed like 3 times or something in those many many houres of BFBC2.
Same with BF2 and BF1942

Backstabbing is most of the time happening if there is stalemate between the teams or lonely guy who is hiding and wait when the enemy passes…

(madoule) #43

well just swing the swashbuckle twice… bezzys reasoning has convinced me. in case you approach a camper from behind he’s done for the day anyway. but he definitely got his point in his example

Why should people not learn the hardway…

Because that makes player frustrated, and possibly quit, which is something Splash Damage is trying to avoid

Everybody isn’t you.

Really? So Sp3x knifed you in the face 5 times?

Wow, that is brutal!

Very well reasoned. Still it feels good being an instrument of God.

:frowning: ^infinity

Well I admit I am a tad disappointed but Bezzy makes an excellent point and since I plan to sneaking up on people anyway. I suppose a slide tackle followed by a knife will have to do.

(Jess Alon) #48

Freaking awesome info in this thread.

Edit: Wraith, I think this just means we’ll have to terrify people in completely different ways. Like me holding minigun causing chaos while you flank like there’s no end in sight.

(Nail) #49

since I plan to sneaking up on people anyway.

hard to do when someone is moving, footsteps will give you away especially with no stamina bar, everyone runs

Sir if you don’t know that BFBC2 is autoknive in your face of 10M and go through walls.
and that it seems you are invulnerable when in your in auto aim god mod

is that’s why cqc become who hit the auto knive button first.

And that is no skill instead of the knives of BF2/BF1942

also that is my fun account

Me love you <3

So because people are to LAZY to adapt and to get better we should nerf the game for there standard…

No note everybody is me but everybody should aleast have to brain not to stair 20 second in the same direction’s

same with if you look right and left before you cross the street

I’m just against simplifying the game

(Krysiss) #53

you got backstabbed alot lol

(Apples) #54

Not that much , but IMO the backstab must be a specialist thing, not an all around thing, else people just use it too much and if its badly implemented its really a game breaker.

(Seyu) #55
So, just because people are too lazy to adapt and get better, we should nerf the game for their standard…

No, not everybody is like me but everybody should at least have the brains not to stare for 20 seconds in the same direction.

It’s the same as your looking right and left before crossing the street

I’m just against simplifying the game.
See what I did there? Nah, no need to thank me.

Just so you know, what you said isn’t even related to the debate over SMART. See, the thing is that SD want the game to be about teamplay, tactics, that sort of stuff. They don’t want you to spend more time trying to perfect your jumps and slides but rather focus your energy on the objectives. They haven’t simplified movement for the sake of simplifying, as you seem to have assumed, but rather to not let it come in the way of players enjoying the game and doing the things that matter in a match.
Then again, the developers have said that those who things manually will have a significant advantage over those who use the SMART navigator, that should be enough for your you, aye?

Edit: Ugh, I thought this was you railing on against SMART like in the earlier thread, my bad. Listen to what DarkangelUK says instead.

Doesn’t that work the other way round as well? You don’t get an easy walk with an instant kill and actually need to earn your backstab kill now. You’ll need to adjust from skulking in the shadows waiting for an unsuspecting victim and actually learn to engage the enemy… I’m not entirely sure how this is simplifying it.

I think I just forced you to be more creative when you have the drop on someone. :stroggbanana:

(madoule) #58

soon to come: t-baggin 2.0

(Murderous Pie) #59

wait, is there any way to get out of knockdowns? won’t people just knock you over and leave just to piss you off because your stuck forever?

(DarkangelUK) #60

You get back up…

I’m also assuming you can jump over someone that’s sliding towards you. Or… just shoot them.
