Hmm…I plan on bein’ an Operative a whole damn lot, but even I don’t like the idea of a one-hit-wonder ability specifically for that Class, for two reasons…

-I’ve never liked the idea of a “One-hit-wonder” ability, if it’s there, people will just endlessly go for it and it’ll become a bitch tactic…

-Odds are, people who want easy kills that heard 'bout this ability would all just switch to use the bitch tactic…

So yeah, I ain’t really bothered all that much either way, but I’d prefer if it wasn’t in, or if it was, that it wasn’t easy to do…

There are much easier ways to kill people then stabbing them in the back.

Think insta-incapaciate instead of insta-kill. I assume a guy who is insta killed can still be interogated, just like any other “kill”.

I guess those shotgun knockdowns in the vid must have been kills then. Makes you wonder if shotguns can one shot kill when close enough.

I hope anyone can backstab or use some form of melee action to the back. You deserve to get backstabbed for camping or being generally clueless about your surroundings.

Hehe. 20v20+ ET games I’d take the longest way around the map then be able to knife about 4-5 people. Tell me people check the radar and read the death messages.

Unfortunately, there are many cases where backstabbing is used where there is no particular misconduct on the part of the victim. If insta-kill backstabs can be used in open combat, it opens up a large jar of worms. Two people trying to manoeuvre behind one another at high speed can just feel a bit weird and disorienting. Weird-and-disorienting followed up by instant death is pretty sucky. You need to understand why you’ve been killed, or it feels like an act of God.

We did try some other things early on (essentially an anti-camper melee kill, where you have to remain in the “shadow” of the oblivious opponent before you’re allowed to instant kill), but it’s kind of over-working the principle: being behind someone who is standing still and focussed in the wrong direction is practically already a kill for free. You don’t really need an extra move for it. We just like the idea that even in that situation, there’s a bit of fight-back for the victim - a slim chance that they might get out of the situation they’ve offered up to would-be assassins…

There are idiots in games all the time and there’s probably times when you’ve been oblivious to things going on around you (unintentionally). Telling people they deserved it doesn’t help, what does help is giving them feedback and letting them know ho to avoid situations like that in the future. Even in games that have fairly linear paths and death messages with kill icons and messages that clearly say what’s going on between players fail to get though to people.

I didn’t have a real point to this message…

you and i know there’s no way to educate ppl INGAME (using VOIP or text).
so humiliating kills (like knifes) are the last resort to make them realize at some point, they may be doing something wrong (tho this theory is for me nothing but a wishing well…)

So no backstab ability eh? I’m fine with that (like super fine), although I think Wraith might be a little disappointed. Still, I suppose if you can get behind someone you already have a pretty big advantage over them.
