Knockdowns

(Cankor) #1

So many new things in Brink! It’s pretty apparent that knockdowns are going to play a major role in combat (especially given that after you are knocked down a melee move will OHK you):

  1. Melee knockdowns.
  2. Slide tackle knockdowns.
  3. Shotgun blast knockdowns.
  4. Grenade launcher knockdowns.

I bet you can jump on a guy from above and knock him down too. Skinny guys climbs above big guy, jumps on his head and knocks him down, then yells “Goomba!” when he melee’s him in the head. Maybe it’s height/body type dependent, but would be surprised if it’s not there since you can slide tackle a guy.

Any others anyone can think of?

Also, asume the OHK isn’t a gib, so:

  1. melee to knock down.
  2. melee again to incapacitate
  3. melee a 3rd time to gib?

I like using nades for gibbing, slows the medics down, but I could just be used to it from being engi in W:ET

(Cankor) #3

I would assume you can gib with a nade in Brink as well.

(tokamak) #4

Falling from a height but not landing well could be a knockdown?

(Bezzy) #5

Shotguns don’t do knockdown, though we toyed with the idea (bean bag rounds etc).

Direct hit grenade launcher grenades do knockdown.

(tokamak) #6

I imagine that could be like those massive slugs they put as the first round in a shotgun to break open a door lock before busting in. But yeah that would overcomplicate things.

Im guessing theres a perk that bounces you back up when you get knocked down?

I had “Cat Like Recovery Ability” jotted down in a notepad somewhere (hit jump while falling backward to flip over and land on your feet), but I didn’t have time to try it out.

(madoule) #9

darn it, that’d be an awesome idea, especially it is nothing that automatically happens but has to be triggered. i guess someone posted it yesterday, but bezzy the SD staff posts always add a huge bonus insiight to any thread…

Do knock down attacks cause significant damage also, say if a player was already low on health and was shot by nade launcher, meleed in the face, or tackled would he die or be knocked down?

Similarly if he was just knocked down would an additional shot kill him from the launcher?

(madoule) #11

aren’t melees the only option for an instant kill, or am i mistaken?

(.Chris.) #12

Only when they are already knocked down, it’s a ‘finishing move’ afaik

(madoule) #13

damn it, i guess either we wait for the walking compendium or we have to browse ourselves…
i was pretty sure the melee was a OHK as long as you had the pistol equipped…
gimme a few hours i’ll look it up…

crossing finger for melee not being an instakill

I’m playing a shooter, not a boxing or a sword’s game, and still not understanding how a hit with a knife would be an instakill (unless its backstab, you know, commando style in your throat) while a direct hit @ 2 feet from a supadupa shotgun will just makes you lost a bit of health…

Meh, I say it wont be instakill, would ruin the thing imo!

Peace

(Humate) #15

Oh on my notepad, I had it as “The Bruce Lee” :infiltrator:

If players want to commit a perk to it then I’m fine with instant killing stabs. The normal gun bash seems to be a knock down though. So you won’t see it happening everywhere.

Depends entire on the form they come in.

Slides do knockdown and nothing else (since they have the best range of the melees). Most other knockdowns do some damage.

Great stuff.

(Wraith) #19

I take it the knife that you have with the pistol isn’t a knockdown but does more damage than the gunbutt melee which is a knockdown.

Also the operative may have a backstab which could be a OHK.

YES! Thanks to Cank for the starter posts and more thanks to SD for providing a little more insight into the gameplay mechanics. It seems like ever since the release date was announced then maybe they can discuss this a little more. In facet, I be surprised if any major gameplay options would even be changed at this point, so it’s probably safer for them to let us know how it works. I sure to appreciate the tidbits!
