Kimbo/Dual wield Pistols
I remember watching the Halo 2 launch special from Rooster Teeth and Red vs Blue. They basically say “and now we can hold 2 guns!” “wait, why couldn’t we hold 2 guns before? We have 2 hands” “guess no one thought to try”. Always makes me laugh

Because the mark V MJLONIR armor didn’t support two weapons. Like it wouldn’t show the ammo in the clip of the second one. When MC upgraded his armor in Halo 2, he could dual wield. Not because he didn’t think to try it.

I was 26 when halo one came out.

Really? Is that why he couldn’t wield? Had nothing to do with development. Maybe we should blame Cortana?
You know, I think games just plain shouldn’t be advertised with trailers. Trailers are for movies, not games. Give me a gameplay video so I can see how playing the game looks like.* Or even better, a demo.

Trailers for games indicate Hollywood-like thinking: that a game should be about looks first. Good-looking action scenes. Not interesting actions, decisions, challenges. I will play a bad-looking game if it’s fun. I will quickly grow bored with an awesome-looking if it’s shallow. Cinematic games are not to be enjoyed for a period of time, they are to be consumed. Initial sales are more imporrtant than lasting value.

At least in movies, trailers are composed of actual movie scenes. Game trailers are unique in that they may contain situations not actually present in the game !

 • Exception: games with very heavy story and usually no replay value
Good idea. This would also take away any controversy about trailers being different from the actual game, and would in fact solve a lot of problems. The problem is trying to get game companies to agree because the whole start of cinematic trailers was to sell games better, and that’s what they will always try to do, make the most money. Now, not all game companies are like this, but there are many out there that are. An unfortunate thing but true.

(nick1021) #45

Well ofc development. But their excuse was that the interface didn’t support due wielding =/

And they actually would of added the mongoose in halo 2 but that would of been too much, and they needed more stuff for halo 3.

(Ultima) #46

Or Halsey since she created Cortana.

(Bittermetal) #47

Or we could just mentally protect ourselves and remember this is a cinematic representation of what the devs are trying to get across and not a cinematic version of a feature list. Highly unlikely cinematic trailers will go the way of the dodo bird. So protect yourself and your wallet. Remain reserved.

(Bittermetal) #48

Ha! Exactly! Blame Halsey

(Ultima) #49

Yes, thank your for helping me get to the point I was trying to get to in fewer words. Well, that pretty much sums up what I was saying. So yes, as he said, remember it’s cinematic. Of course they’re going to add a little more flare and a little more action and such to make the game appear as cool as they possibly can to get the most people to buy it. It would be nice to see only gameplay trailers, but there’s no likelihood of that happening and you can always find multiple gameplay trailers of a game somewhere with ease.

(NigelDocker) #50

Thats what i think too, they were probably meant to have dual wield pistols but dropped it, had already made a trailer they had spdnt a butt load on (That is one of the most impressive cinematics I have ever seen for any game… shame they didnt spend the extra money on the actual game or servers lol) So used it as the main advertisement for the game, knowing but not caring it ciuld misslead people because it looks extremely cool and would make lots pre order and buy it.
In the trailer for Brink it made a big emphasis on the free running, but also on daul wield/kimbo pistols.
They come up twice in the main trailer for the game and and payed allot of attention to it.
I was very suprized that they wasn’t in the actual game after watching the trailer leading me to believe there were…

Dual wield Pistols would be very good as at the moment pistols are under used.
The revolver and sea eagle can be very good, the machine pistol can be ok, but for the rest… you would be better of with the above 3.
Plus if you are not a light then there really is no reason to use a pistol atall over an SMG. Apart from the revolver with an ‘Acog site’ (it pwns, better than draganov in my experience)

To put it in the trailer very clearly and not to have it in the actual game is beyond me. specially when really suits the game, most for the light body type and would help with the balance of some pistols also.

Heres the trailer ;

This thread is full of win!

(Ultima) #52

True, I mean what would you do, make a whole new trailer, or use the epic one you already have? And I agree, it is one of the coolest gaming trailers I’ve seen yet.

(NigelDocker) #53

‘Yup, even if we messed up or for some reason couldnt put what we have in the trailer in the game, who cares if we misslead people’

And that trailer is definitely the most amazing tralier ive seen for a game. Its such a shame, if you compare it on a scale to the game its quite rediculous (not how good the trailer is to the game obviously, but the quality of the trailer to the game compared to other games to their cinematic trailers).
If only they spent the money and time they used on the trailer on the actuall game and have it more polished and be able to sell itself rather than the trailer selling it.

I don’t have any armour and I can shoot 2 guns :stuck_out_tongue: It was a joke against the game design and not against logistics. Halo fanboy or not, seems you came up with mythical reasons rather then real life ones… they just didn’t code 2 weapon gameplay in the 1st one.

(nick1021) #55

It would be weird to carry 2 guns and only have stats for one. The HUD would probably glitch actually.

(DarkangelUK) #56

It would be weird to think that the disadvantage of not being able to see the ammo count of a 2nd gun outweighs the advantage of having 2 guns.

Possibilities for dual wield pistols;

No grenade/knife while equipped
less range and slightly less accuracy but more power (need to compensate having no grenade/knife by only having very ‘slightly’ less accuracy BUT allot less range, and being more powerfull/more damage)

It could be an ability you haveto buy for operative only (good idea) as the Op is the sneaky fast class it would suit it AND even the class up and give people more of a reason to use it. (obviously it would be exclusive to the operative, but more people would use the class as its under used.)

It could be a universal ability like grenade shooting.

It could be only availible for light body types, or medium and light.

This idea is awsome but farfetched; Heavies availible to dual wield SMG’s or even assault rifle’s. Lol may not suit the heavy being slow and all, but evened up and not over powering (making it so not everyone is running round with 2 weapons) It would add more veriety and choice to the game. And also could even up the heavy class and get more people to use it.

(Ultima) #58

So, are we done talking about the actual idea of dual pistols in Brink and what they would be like?

Here’s a list of my ideas:

Positive

-Longer times between reloads as a result of having two guns.
-Obviously more damage for firing.
-Also more melee damage.

Negative

-Less accurate
-No use of grenades
-No use of knife(melee attack will instead be a hit with the butt of the pistol which will still do more damage than a normal melee attack but not as much as the knife would be)
-No Iron Sights or Scope

I think if they added it in as DLC as a Universal ability and used this set up, it would fit into the game and be balanced. Obviously, you need some negatives so you are not overly powered, other people still need a fair chance to win in a firefight against you if that occurs. Anyways, these are my ideas, feel free to disagree or add on.

Also, about some of the mechanics, would you be able to add two different pistols(i.e. Kalt with Belgo). Or, would you equip one pistol and just use two of those? Or would you get to choose which one you want to do? Just food for thought.

Ah, I see you’ve sort of beaten me to the punch here, well maybe we can add our ideas together?

Dual wielding is a bad cliche in video games these days.
