Kill / Death Stats
Or you can estimate K/D with a MCMC model, based on parameters such as accuracy, percentage of cover, and response time of the player

Well in theory it is feasible, would need many many data tho…
That would require the data from both parties he ever encountered wouldn’t it?

Not if you involve mines and turrets etc.

(.Chris.) #63

So don’t include them…

(Apples) #64

Number of mines used / Number of kill by mines for every gamer to construct a prior distribution, then you use this prior for one player only, its biased, but can work, thats what is cool about statistics, you can estimate anything, and its even better with bayesian methods. The number of parameters to include would be uber high tho.

But lets get ontopic as I dont see a point in estimating stuff that you can calculate in the first place  as all datas are stored, its not like you wanted to get an estimation when you can have the real number, it can be cool for the theory tho.

Ontopic : no kd is fine, people will still be able to track their in a stat page somewhere, but listing people by K/D is just the total antithesis to what brink should be (in pub), if a promod gets out, deeper stats would be a great addition.

PS : I allways wondered, is “more deep” totaly wrong in english? or is it just ugly.

Peace

Why would you use more deep if you have deeper?

(Apples) #66

I know, it was just a grammatical question, is it faulse? or just less convenient and more ugly than deeper.

(light_sh4v0r) #67

Dunno, it sounds wrong to me but it’s not my native language.

(LyndonL) #68

Deeper is correct, More deep false

(AnthonyDa) #69

Skill = XP, don’t forget this guys!

(PsYcHo) #70

Absolutely true!
TDM, FFA okay! But not the other modes. It was a good move of Treyarch that they added the K/D ratio in TDM & FFA and things like “Planted/Defused” in S&D. But the K/D is still there.

(DarkangelUK) #71

Troll = boring, we won’t be allowed to forget that!

(Cankor) #72

It would be more deeply, not more deep, anyway

(KnollDark) #73

Personally I hate K/D i could have an awsome time playing a game but once i see i got 15 kills for 25 deaths I just see that i suck and can’t play for ****

(Jess Alon) #74

Sometimes I do better on maps that have a lot of tight cover small close together buildings as I like to use the shotgun pretty exclusively in most games… and on teams it helps to not have people who are just standing around getting killed and therefore not keeping the other team in check thus getting me steamrolled in the process.

(LyndonL) #75

Yeah my K/D goes from 1.5 on avg to 0.5 depending on my teammates…

Some might argue that I should maintain my K/D exclusive from my teammates, and I wish I could but I do more than play online games every day, so my skill isn’t up there with all those level 50 BC2 players etc…

(tokamak) #76

IE be a horrible team player.

(LyndonL) #77

No no I didn’t mean that. I meant as in the performance of other players affecting my performance. Unfortunately it does though. When the other team spawn camps, and you run out of the spawn and find 4 people waiting for you and take out 3… you kinda hope the 4 people behind you will clear the path so you can get out when you respawn but they just sit there and wait again. Very frustrating.

Nothing good comes from K/D ratios. They foster bad gameplay. It’s prevalent in BC2 Rush mode where DEFENDERS don’t go running into the thick of it in case they die. All the people sit back and snipe and consequently the MCOMs go up.

(tokamak) #78

That’s exactly what I mean. That trust you talk about would be absent in both situations if you were to maintain your K/D ratio.

If you play as a team, your K/D ratio WILL be affected, the only way to avoid that is to play completely separate from your team like sitting on a hill and sniping.

Good team-players are heavily affected by how the rest of the team plays. And that’s a good thing.

(LyndonL) #79

Ah yeah. Thought you meant something else.

I agree.

(Crytiqal) #80

I am sorry, but getting a high K/D ratio doesn’t mean you don’t help the team.

In ETQW I go in first usually to kill as many as I can before the other guy can do the objective without being killed.

What frustrates me then, is that you kill 3 of em, and the objective player starts doing the objective without finishing the last guy with 20 hp and gets killed by him. :s

Just saying, a higher K/D ratio does NOT imply that your not a team player.

EDIT: a high K/D ratio with a low KPM might imply a camper tho
