Its a sad day.....

(EB) #21

What is he thinking?.. complaining to the people who are trying to keep this game alive while -almost- blaming them simultaneously ?
If it is possible for everyone to trickjump, then how is it cheating ? Afterall, being able to trickjump isn’t a seperate download.
EnoughIsEnough, you came at us all wrong.

PS: im not in a clan, i dont enter competitions…im just a regular player, thats had loads of fun with ET. Clans should stick to own servers, for fairness
Why should clan members only play on their own server(s) ? That has to be the most ignorant thing I have heard all week and believe me, I live in America and I hear ignorant things everyday of my life but none of it lately matches that statement. Congrats.

(Nail) #22

:nag: good thing he hasn’t played on a shrub server where a covops/engi can do it by himself, but that ain’t trick jumping so I guess it’s ok :nag:

btw, go play on Tavington/Daz’s server for “Fairplay” oh, ya, he hasn’t got one, but you could go whine on his site, if he’ll let you join, seems he only has the one poster, him

(TFate) #23

I agree. WTF.

Besides, if clans stuck to their own servers, clan wars would be pretty boring imo. :moo:

(Mr_Tickles) #24

Ok, boiling it down somewhat, I hope.

This game has many gameplay features. Whereas the main theme is a WWII setting, this doesn’t necessarily mean that this “game” should be solely limited to this.

Features of gameplay, and the type of play they use:
Different Classes - For people who like to have a bit of variety while playing.
Experience - For people who like to build up their character. (XP whorage)
Objectives - For people who like to have a goal to aim for. (People who actually try to get the gold from the bank)
Opposing teams - For people who like competition and battles. (Fraggers, Rambo meds, etc.)
Movement - For people who like to develop speed or distance in their movement. (“Trickjumpers”, which I think could be a bad name for this area.)
(I’m sure there are more :S lol)

Each of the above are built into the game, and if you want to play it, you can either get used to playing each strategy, (or a few, it’s up to you), or you can simply live with the fact that other players may have explored each of the above gameplay strategies, and are using them in unison to achieve the objective of the map.

As for the seta crap that you brought up… you can do jumps without altering your config at all.
Please tell me you don’t think bunnyhopping is an exploit aswell

Hey, what’s your position on spawnkilling anyway? (Oops :p)

Actually the Polish were the first to get their hands on the Enigma machine.

First off. SD have been mapping for the Quake engine for long enough to know about trickjumping. I think it is safe to say most if not all were put in deliberately.

I have a constructive idea for you.

If you don’t like these exploits on Fueldump/Oasis/whatever then don’t play those maps. Try learning a new map, one you have a snowball’s chance of influencing the design of.

Lots of very good customs out there, many actively seeking feedback about the design, get involved.

:blah: :blah: :blah:

(Sick Boy) #27

So… the jump over fueldump wall actually happens a lot? I’ve done it one time on a pub and saw another guy do it one time, so over a year and a half of ET playing it’s not like it’s ruining gameplay. That jump is so hard I don’t really ever bother trying it, you have more chance of getting killed in the process than actually making it (or are my skillz getting rusty  )

(Junkers) #28

Btw, I don’t play in a clan either, I have used to play Call of Duty (I still would if my computer wasnt f*cked), and I have to say, there are trickjumpers there as well… Think of the “plant-the-bomb-on-top-of-the-train-wagon”… its the same thing, deal with it…

Oh yeah, you have some strange idea’s about clan’s… to say it 1337: Wh1n3z0r

(Bongoboy) #29

Hmm. There are some interesting opinions here. Here’s my penn’orth:

I’ve had some fantastic times being utterly owned by better players (and I’m looking at you here Salteh). I died a lot, but I learnt a lot as well. Those are good games. But it’s no fun at all when the server is just mismatched; you’re effectively playing entirely different games.

Enough’s original post sort of touched on this, and I sympathise. I’m not sure I agree with him about trickjumps per se; like Ifurita says, they’re just one of the things you have to look out for, like CovOps.

We want people to enjoy the game. That requires a reasonably level playing field, which means sorting players to match their ability, expectation and playing preference. That way the vanilla players can play each other on vanilla maps and servers, and the l33t jum90rz can headshot each other in mid-air.

It really helps if public servers make clear exactly what sort of game they’re offering. Quite often it’s not clear, and people don’t get the game they expect or want.

Diff’rent strokes for diff’rent folks, say I. It’s a broad church with room for all. You don’t pays your money and you takes your choice…umm…I think I’m done now…

(Subterfuge) #30

Well Enough, I think you made the right descicion by /uninstalling ET cause TJ’s are here to stay and you will always /connect to servers where people do this. Myself I only do these jumps if I am playing on a n00b-server where axis are pinning down the allies by the first bridge on FD and are beeing complete asses with their v57 spamming. By doing a soloraid and blowing the dump I get a good feeling inside when they start (or more like it, continue) their whine at the mapend. Or I will do it in clanmatches. If you have not prepared a defence against this stiuation, your taxx shold be revised.

If the teams are well balanced I do not do the jump cause I like firefights to and I prefer to win the map in the “intended” way. The same goes for jumps on Oasis aswell.

(blushing_bride) #31

dont really like trick jumping myself but then again there are many things about ET that you have to put up with (panzers, arty spam etc).

All i want to know is did SD really design in the oasis and fuel dump trick jumps on purpose?

(Mask) #32

:banghead: Damm I can´t do walljump.

I do understand the frustration of EnoughIsEnough, I think its map-bugs (bad mapdesign) that allow players to do the walljump.

If it was found during the test, they should have change wallposition, height or something like that.

But I don´t believe it will be fixed, so we just need to guard objective :bash: .

(fattakin) #33

i dont think its really that common a problem, id estimate 1 in every 50 games ive ever played on a Pub Server has ended because of a trickjump its pretty rare and not really that big a deal.

(amazinglarry) #34

I suck at trickjumping =( But I’ve also come to expect it. To be honest, I get more frustrated when we’re axis holding the bridge on fueldump and some lame covert ops gets by. In either case for fueldump or oasis, covert ops can bring an eng through the doors, so it’s effectively the same thing as walljumping. The difference being one doesn’t need that whore of a covertop.

(Salteh) #35

I don’t think so…
but if they really really really wanted to, they could’ve ‘patched’ that in patch1

Edit:

… added ‘wanted’

(Bongoboy) #36

Yes; the Oasis and Fuel Dump trickjumps were left in deliberately.

(Mr_Tickles) #37

Thank you Bongoboy, I’ve been dying to know that for ages
Erm, is it too much to ask whether they were simply left in, or were they intended in the first place?

(EnoughIsEnough) #38

dont come here and tell me you can jump the fuel dump on a regular et config…i barely get halfway, and not nearly that high. and dont come with any bullshit like “find a key set thats right for you” been playing with the same key config for 2 yrs,so i dont think that is the problem…

and Mr_tickles…“What is he thinking?.. complaining to the people who are trying to keep this game alive while -almost- blaming them simultaneously ?
If it is possible for everyone to trickjump, then how is it cheating ? Afterall, being able to trickjump isn’t a seperate download.
EnoughIsEnough, you came at us all wrong” trickjumping is keeping the game alive? now thats total bs.

(EnoughIsEnough) #39

and Splash damage, im dissappointed that a quality company like yourselves leave SHIT(pardon my french) like this to exploit. so from now on, when i play, i will ALWAYS play soldier with a panzer…just to ruin gameplay for others. as u say, its just a part of the game
