Its a sad day.....

(EnoughIsEnough) #1

I just registered here, this is probably my first and last posting…though i might reply to this one later on.After playing Enemy Territory since it got released, i uninstalled it today. I have had many hours of good playing, its been the sole single person shooter multiplayer game ive been playing. so you can see theres been quite a few nights and days…he he BUT today i uninstalled it. Its a few flaws that’s being exploited big time, so the objective og a single map, is ruined. Im talking about trickjumping. Its okay on fuel dump when they jump up over the barb wire near the bridge…its also okay when they jump up a little bit more than theyre supposed to. but on fuel dump for example, between the axis base and the tunnel exit, thats just beyond. totally ruins the whole objective of the allies having to get the tank to the gates and blow it open. More and more peple does this, not only does it ruin the objectives, it also ruins gameplay for someone, who has to sit on the objective (literally) and watch it so some trickjumper doesnt sneak his, in my opinion, cheating ass in and ruins it all. If Splashdamage (or whoever develops these patches) takes away the possibility for this, please let me know, for from today of, my days of playing Enemy Territory is over.

R.I.P

PS: im not in a clan, i dont enter competitions…im just a regular player, thats had loads of fun with ET. Clans should stick to own servers, for fairness

In public play, players do not have set tactics. In clan play it is almost impossible to do ANY of the trickjumps.
I am an ex ET tricker. The Old City Wall jump is easy. The hardest is jumping over the actual fuel dump. All this stuff is possible. Clans usually have people back at base defending the objective. If someone jumps the wall, it’s thier tactics that are at fault. Not the game. I suppose you would also like to stop people jumping on each others head to form a tower to plant on the out side of the Anti Tank guns on Oasis?
[/RANT]
It’s there. Just deal with it.

(Mr_Tickles) #7

To be honest, deal with it. If someone if good enough to jump over the old city wall, then in fairness, your team should have someone who can anticipate this and take care of it.
I absolutely hate people who say this is an exploit or a bug of the engine… that’s complete bollocks! (and yes, I would say this to your face)
It’s programmed into the engine, and the game, and is therefore intended, therefore it is not a bug, therefore you are completely out of line with your accusations, you tart!

I have heard so many people say that this is an exploit, or a bug; well, they obviously haven’t had their horizons broadened far enough to realise that there is more to this game than they can realise, unless, of course, they know it all…

I want to say so much on this subject, but I don’t possess the vocabulary to do so :S

(And what? Jumping over the barbed wire on fueldump is a trickjump?!? What?! Come on… Maybe you aren’t as adept at using your particular key layout that you use… I’m not good at using the traditional WASD setup, So i’ve got my own… you should try to get a key setup that works for you, and stop slagging everyone off!)

(carnage) #8

trickjumping does have its advantages

fueldump map - if the axis team is orgonised well enough they can easily hold the 1st bridge no problem, its not a rare thing. as long as there is 2 good medics and an mg gunner with a few lutenants

if someone trickumps or does that backdoor thing the match actual ends and moves on rather than spending the next half and hour spawnkilling and it realy does get boring

(TFate) #9

BTW, does anyone else notice a slight bias in regards to the poll questions?

EDIT: I wonder how many of these were known by Splash Damage before they released ET. Do you think that they knew that you could jump the barbed wire and the Old City Wall? I’d be very interested in seeing a list (or something) of jumps that the SD team knew about but decided not to correct for whatever reason.

(Junkers) #10

gotta love dutchies

(Salteh) #11

Not at all!!! :nag:

:}
The poll answers(?) have ‘ruined’ this thread for me, having some slightly more sensible/nice poll answers would prolly have created a much more interesting thread

(Loffy) #12

Didn’t the britts steal an Enigma machine in the real thing? I think that was unfair. I mean, it was suppose to be a secret.

(Salteh) #13

Are you trying to implicate the brits exploited the ‘Enigma machine’ ?
Damn those evil brits, just showing off their skills and ruining the war :frowning:

Outrageous!

(EnoughIsEnough) #14

this is obviously a community of clan geeks, since noone sees the argument of fair play. I said I was a regular player, always playing on public servers. If the defense gets blasted by some airstrike, then one single engi can go and do it all on his own. I dont argue with any of the things you mentioned Salteh
…these other things are things that are in the game, thats supposed to be like that. When u jump over a 4 meter tall wall, because you are a geek that knows what all the /seta (or something) does, good for u…but stick with your people. believe it or not, some people actually play this for fun…

(Junkers) #15

well, no shit sherlock… but what 'bout this… some people actually have fun doing these tricks… I’m not telling I’m one of those, I haven’t played ET for a while now, but it’s the same thing with for example counterstrike… and you know what… (no offence intended)… only the noobs and the new people whine about that stuff…

(Salteh) #16

My clan hasn’t played any clan games for at least 3 months now
Think I play this game for fun. ( and always have ).

The only map where this ‘trickjumping to get to objectives’ might be an issue if fuel dump. But 90% of the time someone tries to get to the dump, my team’s players will have spotted them and killed them / alerted rest of the team. I do play on a server with ‘experienced’ (?) players though, and most of the players know the others very well…

(EnoughIsEnough) #17

then stay at the servers where those things are common…that’s what best for all. And whats the definition of noob…? that youre not in a clan? i’ve played this game a LOT, probably as much as many of you in here. But shouldnt me and my kind, who thinks of ET as a wargame, not as a place for showing off your brilliance with computers or showing off your acrobatic jumping skill, be allowed to to disagree with u? Can someone tell me what does the insane jumping possible, so i can find servers that it wont work? if there are any…

(Loffy) #18

When I trickjump over the wall on Oasis with lots of noobs on the server I only destroy the north gun. Then I run back to get the flag or blow the wall from the “wrong way”.

(EnoughIsEnough) #19

thats one way to do it…but when i saw it, he first did it on fuel dump, then directly after on the Oasis guns. On top of that…before he planted the first dynamite, he mined the whole place. hows that for fair play…

(Ifurita) #20
  1. Not a clan player, or in your words, a ‘clan geek’
  2. Can’t trick jump to save my life - I have enough trouble with +forward and +moveup simultaneously
  3. Have no problem with people trick jumping and don’t see how this equates with fair play or not.
  4. For me, the fuel dump problem is on par with a covert and engie sneaking thru, or wall jumping on Oasis. You know it’s a possibility, so you watch for it.
  5. As for customer, mappers have to build maps to not allow unintended trick jumping by making walls high enough, using clips, etc
  6. The ability to trick jump is built into the physics engine and how it calculates ‘things’ - unlikely that you’re going to find a server where this is not possible.
