Is mouseaccel a no-no?

(Cerebrate) #1

I like it a lot personally because it allows me to have a fairly low sensitivity and still be able to quickly turn around 180 degrees. Then I took a look at Raziel’s guide, and according to him, you should have mouseaccel at 0. Also, I’ve seen config-files of other good players, and it’s also 0. Please explain this to me: how am I suppose to turn around quickly and have a low sensitivity at the same time with no mouseaccel? What is the negative thing about mouseaccel? I suppose you could say that I should pick whatever suits me the best, but I’m interested to hear opinions on this (only if you’re an experienced player, please).

I use mouse acceleration

(SCDS_reyalP) #3

use whatever works for you :moo:
IMO, using accel does make it harder to be consistant, however, that may be a worthwhile tradeoff for low sense and still being able to turn. If you are going to use it, I’d suggest keeping it as low as you can. Just in case you didn’t know, you can use fractional values for accel.

(Cerebrate) #4

Yes, I use…

seta sensitivity 2.6
seta cl_mouseAccel 0.18
seta m_pitch 0.016

Works great for me. It just suprised me a lot to see some of these great players having it turned off completely.

I can’t handle mouse acceleration in any FPS. I usually have my sensitivity set pretty high though, so if I need to I can turn very quickly.

(^POTATO) #6

If im a panzer I use mouse accel, allows me to turn real quick and take out that guy shooting me from behind.

(IPvD) #7

I use the cheap XP filtering, but the ingame ET filtering always seemed a bit difficult to adjust to

I currently have mouse sensitivity at 9, with no accelleration.

I think the idea behind having accelleration at “0” is that this gives the most accurate transfer of the movement of your hand to the movement of the cursor on the screen.

I’ve been testing out mouse accelleration at “0” for a while, and it seems to be working, but as posted before, whatever works for the individual player is best. It took a while for me to get used to mouse accel. being at “0” but I think it has helped my game, course a nice optical mouse would be nice instead of my mank infested current mouse.

Mouse sens around 2

Mouse acc at high

Sens at 3, no accel and no filter. Works for me. The only differance to having a high sens/accel is that you need to work on the mouse pad a bit more. All settings are individual of course but I aim better with a low sens, I can track the enemies better this way.

how people play with a sens of 3-12 is beyond me.

<— sens 50

:rocker2:

I use a wireless opti mouse on a pad so I guess it kind of makes it smooth out in the end though.

I think it goes back to all the quake 3 osp/instagib I used to play, I kind of got used to being able to do an instant 180 turn by just flicking my mouse 1/4 of an inch.

(Lanz) #12

You must be joking (or at least I hope you do lol). Fuck sake, I just tried it for the kicks and it’s insane. I would love seeing you tracking a player with that sensitivity.

(M.I.L.F.Hunter) #13

no joke man, actually a few guys on our team use 40-50 as well.

seta cl_mouseAccel “0”
seta sensitivity “50.000000”

45-50 is what I have used in just about every quake 3 engine based game I have ever played ranging from Jedi Outcast to RTCW.

If I were on a “ball” mouse and a pad I would guess it would be very hard to control, but being on a flat base optical and an old foam-ish pad, it’s really very smooth.

For me, my control/aim goes down the tubes when I have to move the mouse in large sweeps across the pad, but if I can keep them down to small 1/4 inch flicks of the wrist, I’m in total control.

I also am one of the few people who do not have all of my movement keys on the keyboard.

I use Mouse2 for forward, Mouse5 (thumb) for back and Mouse3 for Jump.

(Lanz) #14

I use a logitech mx 500 and one of those old crappy mouse pads and to me that setup seems impossible, but if you can get a good accuracy with that, more power to you. It seems extremely hard to do small smoth movements with that sens. 20 or even 30 I could have understood but 50 seems way over the top for me. But as I said, to each there own, if it works for you it’s good.

(Kendle) #15

Sensitivity 4.0, Mouse Acceleration 0.15

The lower the sensitivity the better the aim, but I can’t get below 4 as my desk isn’t big enough (the lower the sensitivity the further you have to move the mouse). The slight acceleration allows me to turn quicker with less effort while still retaining the low sensitivity. Anything higher and mouse movement becomes inconsistent and you can “overshoot”.

(Salteh) #16

My sensitivity is set to… 25.166666666666 - dunno where the .1666666666 came from :).

In my windows settings I have lowered the mouse speed a bit tho!
My mouseAccel is set to 0

[EDIT] Using mx700 / winXP SP1 :o

(Cerebrate) #17

50? I have no idea how you can play like that, but I guess it differs from mouse to mouse. I use MX500 myself, and can’t have it above 3. I tried to set mouseaccel to 0 and sensitivity to 2, but it made me tense and my upper arm started to ache, and so I went back.

(SCDS_reyalP) #18

You guys should be aware that you can’t really compare sensitivity settings between machines. Mouse, driver, OS settings etc. give you different responses for the same value. That said, 50 is pretty damn fast and 2 is pretty damn low on just about any machine.

(Lagger) #19

<-- Sens 1.2 , no acc

is teh evolh

(L2|B4tt3rY) #20

i got mine on 2, i used to use 1 but i would get pwned if someone came from behind by the time i turned around i was dead, so i put it up a little, its fuckin good for tracking people wid 1 though, gets some good head shots but i got raped to much from behind so i put it up, i get raped less from behind but if in VERY close battle i generally cant follow them cause they go to far to the side :disgust:
