Ok enough talk about getting raped from behind. Makes me uneasy.

Is mouseaccel a no-no?
sens depends on windows accel, windows mouse speed, drivers, driver versions… only little can be said about it, some players may use sens 3 and move the same as someone else with 543853945
I’ve noticed that with a lot of people who use a low sens.
For me the high sens of 50 can make “mexican stand offs” (two players strafing back and forth a few feet apart engaged in combat) a little tough.
The guys with the lower sens can track you very smooth, so I use their lack of being able to turn in quick large arcs against them.
Rather than waste my sprint bar (not to mention life) strafing back and forth a few feet away against a guy who will always be able to track me, I sprint/strafe jump at/over/around them at point blank range.
I’ve found that there is simply no way these guys with a very low sens can turn fast enough at that close of a range when engaged with a player using a really high sens.
If I’m coming down off a small incline (a single strafe jump to build up speed) I can usually go up, over, behind and around while letting go a full clip into them and never taking a scratch because they can’t track fast enough.
I have mwheelup bound to cg_fov 90 and sens 30 so when im zoomed I have a slower movement than when i hit mwheeldown which brings me to jump/movement view @ cg_fov 120 with sense at 45/50. I use a MS Cordless Opti with XP mouse speed up bout 9/10’s and mouseaccel off. I found accel only usefull in Q3OSP when shafting, railing or doing the odd Defrag run…
Bare in mind as much as all these games use the same engine some aspects have changed
sens 5.5 no accel, can turn 180 degrees with 1 move. the best sens for you should be the one you reach that (turning 180 with a single movement)
Would probably make more sense if its one thats easy to do 360 as well as 180? Think. If you get shot at from behind AND in front you take one then the other. Most people want to be able to quickly turn to one but take a shot/look at whoever else? With quicker settings and reflexes its a laugh, and with slower reflexes but faster settings it should be that bit more likely too. Tried and tested but as always, what I get is probably completely different from what someone else will get.
I think the main reasoning behind using mouseaccel = 0 is that you always have a consistent rotation with a specific amount of mouse move, which allows your brain to get it’s instinctive targetting ability more finely tuned.
You’re brain gets trained to know that if I move mouse X centimeters across my desk I get exactly X degrees of rotation. If you use mouseaccel it no longer becomes constant, i.e. if I move my mouse 1 cm I get X degrees and if I move it 2 cms I get X * 2.05 or something. When using mouseaccel your brain can’t develop as precise of an instinctive targetting ability.
It’s basically the same effect as when you make a change to your sensitivity and for awhile you always find yourself over or under shooting on your initial targetting.
For ET - Mouse sens: 11.4 acc: 0
going back to quake 1 days, i always liked being able to still track my opponent with the nail gun should he pop me in the air with a rocket.
with 0 accel, both the x and y rotations are proportional to the mouse movement on the mousepad. with any other accel i’m guessing both the x and y rotation are the same thing plus an added acceleration component. i’m not sure.
i just can’t keep up with that kind of motion “on-the-fly”. by setting accel to 0 you eliminate 2 degrees of freedom in the game (accel x and accel y).
Can anyone tell me why i get 0 input in the game if i move my mouse too fast on the pad? i’ve got a usb optical logitec mouse.
