Introduce Yourself!

(xarQi) #121

Hello my name is Jens “xarQi”, I am 22 years old and living in Belgium.
I used to play ET alot for like 7 years with breaks ofcourse, beside that also played cod4 for a year or two.
And actually tried bf3,ql,csgo,League Of Legends(till level30) and cod:blackops 2!
But the last couple of years i was always more like a managment person for multigaming clans, multiple projects, organising tournaments.
And now i’m busy with starting up a new league. It’s called “Online Competition League” http://ocleague.com
It’s now 2 months running and i’m actually taking in a huge interest in dirtybomb to be added and support by my league!
Thats also why i bought alpha to help shape this game! Cause there aren’t alot FPS titles arround nowadays that are worth to be called an eSports game!

I love esports <3

Hey
I am Andreas, I’m 21 years old and living in Germany.

My way into e-sports:
I was playing many different games from many different genres with friends and ended up with playing Quake3 and UT2004 more intense.
With those games losing support and players, we decided to look into a new promissing game: ET:QW.
So after playing the Beta we decided to found a new squad within final justice clan and began playing pcws.
After improving a lot and some of my friends losing interest in QW I switched to prediction-gaming e.V… The Squad we had there was steadily improving and we kept changing some of our squad-members.
With this Squad getting more and more passive I left and switched to aToOn. Later on I switched clans quite often. Not by choice, but due to inactivity of other members.
I played in ClanBase Nations Cup for Germany and after that ETQW was no longer really worth playing for me.

So I tried lots of other games. Just to list those i played more than 50 hours: CS 1.6, CS:Source,CS:GO, Blacklight Retribution, Team Fortress 2, Battlefield 3… . And I tried Brink. He-Hem.

Where was I?
Good Games. Right. I was not sure whether to got into this closed alpha, as i was really frustrated about what ET:QW has become after its support was stopped. And Brink. He-Hem.
So why did I join this Alpha? No game except ETQW ever managed to motivate me to play and play and play. Just because the whole structure of the game was quite unique and I never felt like I was on a point where I could not improve.
So why shouldn’t this new SD game be able to bring us this feeling back. There wont be monotonous gameplay and simple one shot kills with any baby-gun. There will be an established class system from ET and ETQW and Teamwork and Tactics hopefully will make the difference and decide which team wins.

I hope this alpha and beta testing will improve the game and make it a game thats worth to stick with. maybe for years.

(scootter82) #124

Scootter82 here. ETQW has practically been the only game I’ve played for the past four years. I just happen to pick it up at a Best Buy with a gift card I had. Haven’t really put it down since. I’m currently gaming with the PV Clan. We’re all looking forward to a successful DB!

(Saemoth) #125

Hey! I’m happy to be here!
I’ve been gaming my entire life, almost every genre out there. Mostly I like strategy games, RPG’s and Shooters.
I’ve been playing alot of public games but also some halfway serious matches in games like TF2, CoD:MW2 and Starcraft 2. I played the SC2 beta when it was released and played on a moderatly high level as I was in the top 10 in the platinum league (before they added the leagues above it) och the 1v1 ladders.

I played Brink for some time when it was released and really liked it, loved the fast-paced action-packed gameplay it brought. Although it was a bit buggy and not the best support for some graphic-card.

But now I’m really looking forward to play this game and shape it with the rest of the community!

Come one, come all!

After hanging around for some days, it’s time to join you guys and post a little introduction. I’m Mike (easy to guess), 29 years old and from Cologne, Germany. Wanna keep it short so I skip my early esport-days (played Battlefield 2 up to the ESL Pro Series Finals and so on) directly to the Splash Damage games.

I’ve started with the ETQW beta and played for OCRANA back in those days. Later on after some successful cups and tournaments, we’ve decided to disband the old team and found a new one together with ex-Team Speedlink: “Bumblebee To The Rescue”. We played Quake Wars and later on Brink and succeeded in multiple German and European Cups and Tounaments under the flag of n!faculty, zeroPoint! Gaming and Team Hardware4u. Besides that I was elected as captain of the first Team Germany.ETQW.
As I used to work at Turtle Entertainment (the company behind the ESL) and GIGA (German Television), I organised professional TV-matches/broadcasts mainly for ETQW and some for Brink in the past. Nowadays, however, that isn’t so important anymore since we all got fast Internet, IPTV services like Twitch and as a result a bunch of high definition user-streams.

Even though my old gaming machine isn’t capable of generating a decent, stable frame rate in Dirty Bomb, the game is still pretty fun. Looking forward to a promising future!

Greetings !

My name is Thomas, I am about to turn 24. I am a student in Computer Science in pre-master back there in Switzerland. I play guitar and love sports.

I started playing video games on my old Atari, about 15 years ago. A bit later on I got those old PowerPC based Mac, nice for 2D or faked-3D games but barely allowing me to play games like Quake 1 or Unreal Tournament 99 with double pixels in 320x240 pixels. Eventually I got lucky and got a pc by the time Quake 3 was released and I can safely say that this genre of fast-reflex and accurate gameplay shaped my way to play and the kind of games I trully love (fast, responsive and terribly fun shooters). As I started quite early gaming, I have a pretty good knowlegde of PC games from 1995 up to now and I have tested most game styles : FPS, MMO, RPG, Strategy, etc. and the list of games I have tried is far too long for me to put it in this post

I discovered Splash Damage after the surgery I took to remove two of my wisdom teeth (ouch!) and as I could not go to school, I stayed home with some chocolate icecream and I started with this game a friend told me about, I think it was called : “Enemy Territory : Return to castle Wolfenstein”. One afternoon on this game pretty much turned me into an addict and I spent literally hundreds of hours playing it (and it was not because of the icecream, believe me). Since then I put Splash Damage right next to ID Softwares’ logo in my mind.

I have played a lot too in “ET:QW”, about 400 hours as “iodis” on the “Oh my strogg” servers for those who may remember a psycho with snipers and rocket launchers ^^ But when I came to try Brink, I felt a change in the gameplay and the ambiance, like a part of the fun and the joy missed the train from ET:QW to Brink, and so I did not play a lot with Brink. I have more than ever faith in Splash Damage and I want to help you guys bring a neat game with the kind of gameplay a LOT of fraggers would love to see again in this world where accuracy and speed have been traded for slow gamepads with aim assistance …

About my experience in game design, I have been working as 2D-3D artist for a communication company for one year (side job for my studies), making watches and buildings in 3D mainly. I also gave a fair try to map creation with Q3-Radiant and the Unreal Engine, mostly through tutorials.

Being an alpha tester is a wonderful experience for me as it is the first time I can actually work on a game. I hope I will bring you constructive feedback and I’m really looking forward to help shape this game with you all guys

(Christophicus) #128

I’m afraid I come from neither of those locations actually. I’m much closer to you than that ;). I come from the home of the black stuff, where the drink of the gods is the only thing that can combat the dreariness imposed by the near perpetual rain :p.

(Mustang) #129

Haha, well I never heard it called that before now, perhaps it’s only on your side of the river.

Learn something new everyday, which was actually my aim when I searched for the name after finding it very cool sounding and reminiscent of something out of Sonic Adventure.

(nailzor) #130

Hey all I’m nail

I started pc gaming back in the wolfenstein days which led to duke3d, doom series, hexen/heretic and finally quake 1 which started the snowball into the entire iD series.

I started getting into PC games more competitively when RTCW was released and played for DeathTouch through CAL/BoB2 and then Affliction for Quakecon 2003 placing 3rd. After RTCW I played Halo for PC for Demise at a couple CPL tournaments placing 2nd and 5th. Since then I have been searching for a new great FPS game, played ET, latest Wolf and BF3 but there was always just something missing.

Now I am part of “team Warwitch” as I ride his coat tails every Sunday on twitchTV while we cast an online tournament for RTCW mainly consisting of European teams and it is a blasty blast.

(Xai) #131

Hello,

Xai reporting in!
28years old, from Belgium.
Started with Quake before moving on to Rtcw, playing CS and later moving on to ET and CSS. After a long break from FPS games due to nolife mode WoW, I went back to quake. I enjoy playing on a competitive level and being part of a solid team that pushes itself further.
Currently mainly messing around in RTCW.

Signed up for this closed alpha together with some efriends (nack and ramzi), lets see our hopes confirmed and make this a good one!

(Joe999) #133

I’ve been gaming since I was 4. We had those tricotronic games back then. Eventually I was allowed to go into pubs and put lots of money into arcade games. We didn’t have age restrictions back then. Computers got my interest. That’s why I bought consoles, c64, pc, etc, eventually studied computer science and work as a programmer now.

I still like playing arcade games, that’s why I recently bought myself a coin-op machine. Even though the gfx and sound is outdated, it’s still a blast. Everyone should have one. The reason I bought one is because I lost interest in todays games. I lost interest before, but then Wolf:ET arrived. I stuck with the game for years. It was the multiplayer experience that I enjoyed the most. Ever. Eventually I landed on the SD forums and stuck there ever since. I guess that was also the reason why I got invited to the ET:QW beta. It was the other highlight of my gaming experience.

I ended up favoring games from SD / id. Unfortunately the id games that came after ET:QW didn’t get quite my attention. Wolfenstein was boring. I played rage for about 30 minutes and dropped it. I toyed around with Brink for hours, but never played a single game online. I couldn’t stand the sound volume changes when you got hit. They messed around with my ears.

Even though I didn’t get to play a demo, I bought these games because I thought I’d repay SD and id for giving me so much enjoyment for free with Wolf:ET. Now with Dirty Bomb I finally get to show my monetary support in the proper places and have my money go directly to SD. Finally I can pay for Wolf:ET by paying for stuff in Dirty Bomb.

Anyway, yesterday I noticed by accident that mails from SD never arrived on my email account. And I don’t know why. It doesn’t matter, I’m here now and am excited being allowed to play and contribute to SD’s new game.

During the installation process of Dirty Bomb I watched the tutorial video. My jaw dropped to the ground when I saw the map in the video, put up a big smile and I thought “Holy F* they rebuilt Goldrush” <= excitement !!! That was the moment when the game got my definite attention. Without having even seen the game itself. I guess most of you experienced the same.

I hope I can contribute to make this game a worthy successor to Wolf:ET, because from what I’ve seen so far this is as close to Wolf:ET as anyone ever got.

Cya in the game!

Hello!

I’ve played video games pretty much all my life.

We didn’t have a computer when I was younger so I’d have to go to my cousin’s house to play. He was a very avid gamer so I was exposed to a lot of games and genres. At this point is when I was introduced to shooters (Wolfenstein3d specifically). I later went through a console phase where I played through the usual N64 titles (Zelda, Rogue Squadron, Golden Eye, Perfect Dark, SSB).

When I finally got a computer I played mostly shooters but did enjoy some other genres as well. Started of with CoD2 and then moved on to Q3/Q4, did some Warsow too. A couple of months after starting on Q3 I was introduced to Enemy Territory. My first time seeing the game was during a EU tournament, honestly, I had no clue what was going on but I could tell it was epic. After getting a grasp on the mechanics I discovered that it was pretty much my ideal combination of genre and design: class-based, teamwork-focused FPS. I’ve followed SD’s work ever since, although I’m more of a lurker on the forums (I think this might be my second account actually).

More recently I’ve been playing LoL and, ironically, CoD2.

I’m a Software Engineer =]

(DrD3ath) #135

Well guys, I started playing pong when it first came out some 33 years ago,am 45 now. Had a commodore 64, messed about with that and playing “The Hobbit”. Space Invaders, Asteroids, Pac-Man and all those classic arcade games. It was 10p a game.

Didn’t play much during college years, other peoples laptops playing Doom. Purchased a ridiculously expensive PC from PC World approx 1995 along with civilisation, quake 2 and later Half life. Worked abroad for a couple of years and when I came back to UK got into RTCW, moved from noob to newb status and spent 4 years happily playing on Jolt 5 Marketgarden map. RTCW being my first real online multiplayer and happy days (and nights).

Played beta for ETQW, was admin with Jolt but they quickly died and ended up involved with Oh My Strogg server. ETQW, 4 more years of happy gaming. Had Brink server going after that and now we have BF3 server. Alongside that was the evolution of self built PC’s. Hope to see you playing guys.

(MrFunkyFunk) #138

Hello folks,

I’m gonna try to make it short because I’m a man of few words;
I’m Mr.FunkyFunk! (darn new forum new policy, had to leave my exclamation at the door), I’m 27 and I’m from Belgium.

Gamer since a young age, I entered the online gaming world in 1998 with a old 28k modem, and luckily enough an adsl line not long after.
I’ve played a lot of titles, some more than others, a few competitively, a handful on a really good level.
Q2 & Q3, UT99 & 2K4, CS betas till 1.5 (and other various HL1 mods), BF series, etc and of course ET/ET:QW & Brink.

I switched to more casual gameplays, I don’t play fps as much as I used to, resulting in me not being very good and reactive at all.

It’s nice to see some old names from previous SD releases, I bought my way into the DB alpha yesterday because such games are a rare sight nowadays and I knew the community would be good.
I hope we’ll be able to make it a proud successor of SD legacy.

See you on the servers.
