ROFL… should I edit to add “usually”?
All the cool kids are posting in here so I’ll add a it of my history:
Been gaming since the Commodore 64. I play all sorts of different types of games across various platforms. The PC is an old friend and I’ve always had one in one form or another and has been my primary gaming device.
I’ve also been through a few consoles and handhelds and currently I have an Xbox 360, a PC, an iPhone 4, an iPad 2 and an old Nintendo DS (not the new 3d one or even the older DSi).
I play all genres to varying degrees but my favourites are action based… either 3rd person platformy or FPS.
Currently consuming my time are Halo 4, Mark of the Ninja and Dishonored on Xbox and Borderlands 2, Torchlight 2 and Don’t Starve on PC. I also have a standing WoW night where my wife and I get together with friends and do stuff together while chatting via vent.
Looking forward to Far Cry 3, Devil May Cry, Dead Space 3.
I’m a more casual gamer who will happily move onto another game if the current one begins to annoy me. I’m not anywhere close to “pro” but as long as I’m enjoying myself I don’t mind not taking the top spots. I used to pub a fair amount in Team Fortress 2 but haven’t played that in a while.
Real life stuff: I’m a .net developer living in London. Grew up in South Africa. I like Sci-fi Books and movies and TV series like Fringe and Haven. I enjoy the new TMNT series on Nick and I miss Invader Zim. I read comics (primary use of my iPad) and would love to see a well executed Deadpool movie (pun intended).
Um… yeah. Stop stalking me now.

i still hear the music of wizball in my head. Welcome.
Seanza. 25 years old. Former ET:QW player (first real taste of competitive play). Now running my own events company, we do LAN events for multiple games as well as online tournaments and other advertising campaigns within gaming.
Finally got round to writing this!
I’m Colin, 28, from Scotland.
Once DarkangelUK tried to kill me by making me walk over a bridge that was half-demolished. True Story.
I am the 12th person ever to register on this forum. (quite proud of this!
)
Anyhow. I joined competitive gaming ‘late’, in terms of the rest of eQ. My first online game was Quake3, where I started my own clan TD, and we were totally awful! May have been due to the fact we were mostly on 56k, playing against these damed ‘LPBs’. The clan moved into Q3F, where we were a bit better, but it fizzled out. I hopped a few clans before joining I think it was clan 180 for Q3F which was a short-lived but much more ‘serious’ clan than I’d been used to, and there was some success with that. After that fizzed out, I joined EQ, where I got the welcome ‘talk’ from Locki “EarthQuakers is a family. If you join, you are part of it for life, it’s a close community” or sommat like that. Well i’m still in Eq and some of closest friends are EQ members
I started ‘game dev stuff’ by testing Q3F b2, and level editing in my spare time. I created a few, crap maps. Then RTCW came out, and totally blew me away. I still have my ‘collectors edition’ box on my shelf from back then. I got involved in the WolfTactics RTCW mod which brought fortress-style gaming, and that was fun as hell. I did a few bits of level design and also the in-game UI. After this I got involved in the ETF project, and I can remember having the Q3F2 codebase, but cannot remember if I ever contributed much, if anything, to it.
In amongst that was Wolf:Enemy Territory. What a game. Played with EQ the whole time.
When ETQW came out, I launched the Wheels of War mod and it was certainly fun, but again it fizzed out after our second alpha release, which was a real shame, as it was really quite fun! well I thought so
Since then, Ive bene working on my own little game Gears of Glory: Apex Ace which was released and some folk actually bought it, with you know, real money, so it makes me one of those ‘indies’ now. Even though the money it brought in would only buy a few takeaways, it was still worthwhile to design, build, and launch my own thing from start to finish.
Professionally ive been working at a tech company in Edinburgh since I left Uni. We have done gaming contracting ( I worked on the NASCAR game, which a few folk this side of the pond may sigh at, but it’s my only credited title), and worked on some other ‘AAA’ engine codebases doing kind of ‘firefighting’ last-gasp optimization stuff. Weve produced middleware for PS3 too, but nowadays we are working on low level stuff for mobile devices, particularly GPUs. It’s very interesting work.
Finally found the time to do this so here goes.
tl;dr version: I was born -> Q1+Duke3D+some RTS -> Runescape -> CS LAN -> W:ET+comp+trickjump+mapping/scripting -> ET:QW+comp+mapping+modding+jumping+finding glitches -> today
I can’t remember the first games that i played as i was quite young back then and I’ve been behind the PC before i could talk.
The first notable games that i played were Duke Nukem 3D and Quake. Shortly followed were games like Dungeon Keeper 2, NFS3:Hot Pursuit, Age of Empires and Half-Life. I remember so clearly the moment when the headcrab spawned behind me and i was scared and ran like hell. After those games the age of internet pretty much clouded my taste of gaming so i played random useless games like Runescape.
Some time later i hear my classmates talk about Counter Strike and a good place to have LAN parties. Usually we went after school and played for an hour or two. One day i overheard some of my mates talk about W:ET so i had a look into it. I did start playing on some JayMod server and had fun. A few guys said i was good and suggested we make a clan. This is where everything changed. Initially I hated etpro servers because i was such a noob. We had fun times playing together. It really started taking a lot of my time. Before I knew it, the first thing I did after school was jump in game and played for about 6 hours straight. I barely studied at all so… Here’s something unusual, my math grades were pretty much maxed. I was actually doing much better at school when playing W:ET most of the time and not studying, only paying attention at school.
A year or two passed like this. Then the ISPs started renewing the network. While i previously had a ping of like 20-30 to local(Estonian) servers, after this update, i had a ping of 0-1. This was amazing. Some 2 or 3 days after this update, i went on a etpro pub server, jumped in and started killing. The map was Supply Depot 2. I spawned as Allies in the first spawn, ran out to the tunnels and killed 4 guys in a row, having 2-3 headshots on each. A few seconds later i was banned from that server for cheating. I was really laughing hard and enjoyed that. I started doing mixed matches with a couple of friends but i couldn’t find a stable clan. After time some got better and got into clans, others got a life and pretty much people were leaving.
I was looking for new things. I saw a few people trickjumping so I tried that to a point where i spent half a summer on trickjump servers and learning it properly. Also i found the Splash Damage forums at this point and started reading on mapping and such. Tried to make a few maps but they were bad. I was more interested in making cool things work like a mortar where you had to bring ammo to a cart, press buttons to load it, press some more to aim, etc. I just loved the scripting so i made all kinds of neat stuff. Tried to make maps again. Showed some to my friends, they did like them but I didn’t. They had all kinds of gadgets and nice scripting but the gameplay wasn’t there.
A fuzzy period, was doing all kinds of stuff like jumping, mapping, playing other games and whatnot. Can’t remember when i got Half Life 2 and CS:S but that did distract me a bit.
Some time later i heard about ET:QW. It looked amazing and I knew I had to be in the beta. The first one was awesome. I did invite some old W:ET friends but they mostly quit after 2 or 3 weeks. Sending a hammer to GDF forward spawn and seeing 12 players get killed at once was amazing. Also i picked up the tormentor and after a few rounds I immediately loved it. I was a regular XP whore and was 6th or 7th on the tormentor XP board. When beta2 came and stats were reset, i didn’t bother going for them anymore so i concentrated on playing well instead. The addition of anansi was superb. For the first time i could do dogfights. I bet Szakalot still remembers the time we were dogfighting and i escaped to the tunnel(where you access the shield gen), turned around and was waiting for him to follow to shoot a rocket in his face. He did and so he died :).
I immediately bought ET:QW when it came out. Played some, found some good friends over time. Made a group/clan thingy to play some matches. I also tried mapping again but after understanding how it all worked, i didn’t bother to try and make something. Loved the dogfighting cups. After i saw timestart making the dogfightmod I didn’t really like it and wanted to add a couple of ideas so I tried to make a mod. I had no prior skill of C++ style coding so I mostly trial and errored my way through. I eventually picked up a good C++ tutorial and learned it. I also had a C++ class at school and really loved the homework assignments which had a reward for best program. I won them all :). I started making the Live-Stats app which ended up being about 3000 lines of code. It was my first proper C++ project and I really learned a lot on how not to code. I really had no idea how to fix it rather than remake it all when I wanted to add more features. I had an awesome ToDo list, but no motivation to do it. ET:QW was dying at this point. I did make 2 movies about trickjumps I found or people showed me also looked for all kinds of glitches and bugs in the game. I did exploit the icarus bug quite a lot but kept the next finding a better secret. It was possible to exit out of vehicles through the strogg force shields and as a result do some objectives too early. Luckily i never saw anyone exploiting it on public servers.
Fuzzy times, school…
Now I’m here.

I go by the alias “Leethal”, I started PC gaming with Wolfenstein 3D & DOOM back 1993, my first venture into online gaming came with Quake in 1996 and I have been competing professionally and casually on and off since then. Below are some of the placements in various games that I can remember, there are many others from Quake, FEAR and other shooters that I can’t recall. Looking forward to the release of this game to get back into the competitive scene, currently playing Counter Strike: Global Offensive casually to pass the time.

I love teasing Roald about SMES ;D
Hi I’m Evil-Doer -
My back round in gaming dates back to Rouge Spear / Rogue spear urban ops is where it all began, with clanladder.com an xgn.nu where basically lived on the top for over a year. An obviously old games like ski free an stuff of sorts.
Also, played competitively in Unreal tournament/SoF2/Quake(s)/RTCW/RTCW:ET/TF2/COD(s)/Doom mainly in CAL-i for the games that were in CAL. Also, placed in the 03/04 CPL’s and Quakecon. Just been dabbling around at games for awhile waiting for something legit. So let’s make this the thing to play for the next few years.
Enjoy an have fun. Nice to meet ya.

Hello I am Valdez (not mexican)
I got started with pc gaming in 96, first games were duke3d, quake 1. Played duke3d on a few gaming networks kali/ten. Then Quake 2 came out and this is where I started to play professionally, competing in tournaments such as cpl/quakecon/pgl season 3/4. q3 was then released and was never a huge fan, probably because it was so different from q2, so I skipped the pro scene which I regret. Rtcw was my favorite game of all time, the clans I played for professionally were Darkside / cK, the tournaments I competed in were quakecon 2002,2003, bob1/2 and played in cal-i. I quit playing rtcw because no more tournaments were on the horizon, cpl was supposed to pick this game up and had 3 tournaments scheduled but they got dropped due to some fight with iD/angel munoz. So after rtcw to continue playing competitively I picked up ut2k3, If anyone has seen true life im a gamer on mtv(fatal1ty edition), I competed at that tournament. At this point in time this is where I retired gaming from 2003-2011. Just recently started getting back into gaming, playing games like cs-go/cod blops2/ and now dirty bomb. I am hoping to get back into the competitive scene with dirty bomb. I would have listed all the tournaments I have placed in but did not want to show up LeeStyle.
BR1GAND here. (Age 47) Introduced to FPS via DOOMs 1-2, played a lot of Quake 1 (team fortress mod) and Quake 3 (osp and cpma mods) with Clan Arena being my favorite game mode. Introduced to objective gameplay via RTCW which led to W:ET which I loved even more. Played W:ET competitively with the |M|ummies clan for several seasons before switching over to ETQWs and the Geezers clan. Very vocal on these forums about adding bots (for off-line play mostly) to ETQWs (as early press interviews said there would be none). Organized the GzR (Campaign Mode) tourney. Locally I like to attend and organize LANs and make the occasional trip to Quakecon (I’ve been to 5 over the last 15 years). Did not get into Brink too much, and am hoping that DB will be more like ETQWs this time around.
While I do like challenge of a good in yo face fire-fight, I love the depth of objective game-play with elements of both rpgs and rts that games like Natural Selection, Savage and of course W:ET have in them. ETQWs had all that too but lacked a publisher devoted to the game, imo. Hopefully DB will have longer legs.
I also like pie.
Hey all,
Late to the game… quite literally.
Hoping to transition to a better connection soon, so I can join in on the testing.
Anyway, quick history on myself. Long time gamer; What started with a Vic20 and Atari 2600, ended with me currently using mainly my PC for gaming (besides some sparse 5-minute games on my mobile).
Been playing online since about the release of Quake 2, but really got into it with the release of Quake 3.
Was a hardcore Q3F-er, and created several maps over the years for fortress-like games (Q3F/ETF/Wolf Tactics/Q4F), and a few maps for Counter-Strike/CS:S. Was involved in the first few releases of the Wheels of War modification (for ET:QW), and a few solitary projects/games in between.
At the moment working on my own game (in Unity), besides a four-day fulltime job (which is quite challenging, yet satisfactory).
Looking forward to test this game: Looks quite promising, as it reminds me a lot of Enemy Territory (which I also played to death with my clan eQ). Only 70% to go!
Missed this topic somehow. For those unaware, I am mostly useless.
I’m Dutch, 22 years old, I play keyboard, drums and do production work for both myself and other musicians. I study Mechanical Engineering in University.
Started playing SP games on an old DOS PC, Indiana Jones, Prince of Persia, that sort of old 2d stuff.
First MP experience was in GunZ, a third person shooter with a heavy reliance on melee weapons, with which you could block gunfire and dash. The movement system was very complicated (and absolutely terrible for your wrists) which is why I liked it, you could chain all sorts of wicked moves together using guns and swords and being unhittable in the process if you did it right.
After that I played a whole lot of ROSE online, an absolutely terrible contentless MMO but got addicted regardless. Decided not to play MMO’s after that, as I simply can’t resist playing them :).
Played a bit of W:ET after that, but went with ETQW as soon as I played the demo. Had a lot of fun there, playing with the58th first, and with Machine Soldiers later. Played a bit of comp, but not much. Had a lot of fun playing on the Nirvana custom map events, and put some work in the community map Consite.
After ETQW I started playing League of Legends, still play that every now and then. Did some competition there too, reached 5th on the Netherlands with my team once.
Played Tribes:Ascend a lot after that, still do it regularly. No history with Tribes so it took some time to get used to it, but the complicated movement system(again) really attracts me.
That should cover most of it
Hi I’m Smiley, I generally play with inferno, raccoon, adhe, wiked and such… If you can’t tell I am the pro FPS player out of the group…
Lol Anti, you’ve been on my friendslist in Tribes for a year or so, I never knew it was you xD.
Um haiii, I am Shiv, Played sd games since the quakewars Beta (WOO HOG ADVANCED CONTROLS!!! BRING BACK WHEELY HOG!!) probably touched wolfenstien before but not much.
Mostly i play fps and indie games.
Currently doing 3d games art so this alpha is interesting!
Hi, I’m Maca
20 year old Finnish lad, who hasn’t yet achieved anything in his life.
When I was really young I would only play platformers, and mostly just with a friend. But then our family moved to places and I realized I didn’t like playing games alone. By chance one person got W:ET on our computer about the time it was released, and I wondered that what this interesting thing was. It became my favourite past-time to watch this person play the game. I got him to teach me how to play it also, and that’s when I learned the wonders of online gaming.
Since then I’ve played many different styles of FPS, but very often come back to W:ET. The memories of the time when I was in a clan and somewhat good will most likely haunt me for the rest of my life, in a good way.
I don’t know how much I am able to provide any decent feedback, and thus contribute to this testing, but I wish to do what I can.
