I consider this here a more or less “no reply to former posts thread”, but this pic is just too awesome; I mean it. Those awkward contraptions from the late '70s remind of a time when sci-fi had it’s peak in comics and movies. Now we got all that stuff that was promised back then in the 70s and 80s sci-fi flicks and oddly enough sci fi in cinema became lame as crap. Movies like Moon, wich features such gigantic, awkward plastic interfaces are, surprise, surprise more intriguing, than one bazillion SFX/sec movies like Transformers or Avatar(sry James, you were the best once).
But to be fair, computer games are now the media to enjoy sci-fi properly; makes utterly sense of course.
Introduce Yourself!
There’s lots of old gits in here, which is nice. We can all moan about slowed reaction times and how much better games used to be together!
I’m in my mid 30s, started with a spectrum and have owned most consoles and kept an up-to-date gaming PC ever since. Every year I have a gaming crisis, vowing to put the mouse away and grow up, but never do
I played RTCW, ET and TF2 at a semi decent level and am looking for something to fill the gap. Hopefully Dirty Bomb will be the one.

I’d love it if each of you could provide a short background on your gaming…
This guy called ‘Locki’ had a clan a long long time ago. I tried to join them and got in, even though they at first said:
For some reason they have been stuck with me ever since!
[e] Will write a more complete post later
I never really owned a console until my brother and I bought a gamecube. I guess my parents always were PC-elitists deep down even though they hate games and violence in general.
So I grew up on PC games and pc only. My first obsession was the game Stunt Driver, a racing game and way ahead of it’s time:
Here’s a good review of the game:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0zVP7jxVJ4
This came actually came with an editor. A really intuitive, easy to use yet expressive map editor. That’s a 1990 DOS game for you! As kids my little brother and I spend hours on working on this thing.
After that things went pretty fast and there was no way a primary school kid could keep up with the latest gaming trends so I usually ended up playing new games years after they got released. I discovered Dune II the first actually complex video game and I got completely hooked on it, daydreaming about perfect strategies and base layouts and everything. Red Alert took the whole thing even further because some friends had LAN so you could play against each other. The map editor for Red Alert was sublime as well.
One day I bought Quake 3 with the money I saved up. However, our pc had no 3D card and there was no way of playing it without it. Eventually my parents bought an actual gaming pc and it already came with UT preinstalled. A friend taught me how to use the editor, I taught a few other friends and before we knew it everyone could create basic (yet completely absurd) UT maps. We then went on to have LAN parties where we reserved a morning to all create a map in a limited amount of time, add them all to the map list and play them for the rest of the weekend. Amazing fun, even though the maps themselves were terrible.
I only played online when my parents weren’t around and only until the telephone bill caught up with us. New internet changed things.
Raven Shield was the first multiplayer shooter I completely committed to but I didn’t know much about clans back then so I ended up just being a pub hero. I’m a huge Unreal Tournament fan. And eventually a friend showed me W:ET.
W:ET actually caused my school grades to suffer as I just got completely hooked on this game to my parent’s despair. They put a password on the PC to restrict my gaming but it was quite easy to hack the bios and keep playing.
Eventually WoW came along, bought it on the release date yadda yadda, lots of insane stories. Then ETQW happened which made it very easy to quit WoW.
Eventually I got into Starcraft 2. And that’s actually the only time I really had a moment of fame:
Starcraft 2 still has me fascinated. I suck at it but it’s the only game I play sessions regardless of whether I like it or not, simply to improve my skill. The way this game rewards your effort is fantastic.
At the moment I’m not playing much any more. My study and other hobbies leave very little time for that. I love games like Dawn of War 2 where you can really conceive and execute unique ideas. World of Tanks is fantastic and addictive, and sometimes I play Gears of War games coop with my housemate.
And I kind of ceased caring about online privacy. Here’s my Facebook:
Hi loves. I’m Bananas. I’m 19, Average height, pale, average looking, and single
.
I enjoy playing League of Legends and League of Legends. When I’m not playing LoL, I’m playing LoL. Someone once told me I was addicted, but I laughed at them and asked what their ELO was.
Before my supposed addiction, I played Quake Wars and some other stuff. I used to be better at fps, but now I’m bad. In the prime of my fps days, I achieved accomplishments such as going positive and helping the team.
My favorite weapon is the knife because it reminds me of a banana.
I hope to make many friends and lovers through Splash Damage’s online dating games.
Message me for good times xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo <3 <3 <3 luvluvluv pls
You and that damned banana knife. If you love your banana knives so much, how come you keep throwing them at me??
You and that damned banana knife. If you love your banana knives so much, how come you keep throwing them at me??
Because everyone deserves the love of bananas.
Hi, my name is Dormamu and i am a noob.
My gaming experience began with some russian Old portable game “Egs” or “Nu Pogodi” (“Ну, Погоди”) . Next, i traded my artistic abilities for playing games on Commodore64 (the tape loading sounds haunts me to this day) and to learn Basic. I traded my history/mathematics and some boring classes for Doom, Wolf3D, Duke Nukem 3D, Descent and some more Basic. A future degree on Electromechanical Engineering for Morrowind, RTCW, UT, Quake and to learn how to fail at C programing. Another future Degree on Economics and Business Administration for Oblivion, CS, W:ET and some Debian Linux. I’ve met my future godfather (best man/witness -don’t know how to translate this term) and his wife on WOW, who introduce me to my future fat girlfriend
in AOC (Dark Templar worse class ever! every time i will use Martyrdom i will think of my lame DT :|) who forced me to trade my place in a clan and ESL, my beloved W:ET, an ETQW experience, TF2 hat collection, my PC, for some Degree in Automotive Technology. Now, i am bored , i play boring web games, troll your forum :D, crush cars and keep those test dummies from flying :D.
I am here to supervise your work so that your next game (DB) will keep me hooked for a minimum of 3 years and prevent me from joining my girlfriend GW2 pms party.
P.S. This forum will still be under NDA, after the release of Dirty Bomb?
My PC playing all start long ago with something called Imagination Machine by APF

Hey everyone,
I’m Mattc0m, I ran some sites for ETQW, Quake Live, and Brink. I’m really into livestreaming, e-sports, video production, and community stuff. My coworkers have all gone off and got jobs I wanted (working at Twitch or Own3d), while I am working for a software corporation doing web design. Lame.
I have a long background in competitive gaming, mainly FPS games, and actually just started doing livestreaming and shoutcasting with ETQW. Before that I was a clan leader / competitive gamer since Tribes. My feedback is largely going to be around making the game fun on a competitive level, approachable for clans, and making it a great spectator sport. Any sort of broadcasting coverage I am a huge fan of, as you probably know.
I used to be a lot more involved with the gaming scene a few years ago. I have friends that work for big gaming websites and developers (I used to be an active member of a community called Qt3) and through there got a lot of invites to betas and sneak peeks “back in the day”. Sadly, with the whole graduating from college and landing myself in the “real world”, I find my free time to do gaming projects has all but dried up. My hope is one day I’ll actually get a job in the gaming industry, doing these projects I get really excited about. Who knows.
Look forward to playing you all,
Cheers!

Although I am a dinosaur from the era of text-based games and “color” games that were defined but what shade of green was displayed on the monitor, I have played quite a few games of the years.
I started with gaming on an Apple II, with simple RPG games like Pool of Radiance and Curse of the Azure Bonds.
I did play early consoles such as Atari and Nintendo (still play the kid’s Wii from time to time)
As an adult, I returned to RPGs with Neverwinter Nights on AOL (not the recent one, I mean the original one from ~1994), which was my first online multiplayer game. Later on I moved onto Baldur’s Gate and its other related spinoffs.
My arrival in FPS games happened in 1999 with Unreal Tournament. I quickly got bored of Deathmatch, but CTF captured my heart as a very simple cooperative objective game. I later played through UT2003 at UT2004. I became reasonably skilled with unrealed during this time, making about a bajillion simple and fast maps. This was my first introduction to 3D level design and bugfixing. I did spend a bit of time playing Quake 3 Arena, but it never measured up to UT in my eyes.
With the arrival of Wolf:ET in 2003, I had finally found the perfect game. I endured the early days of endless crashes after downloads, sometimes broken scripts and many oddities that characterized the early game, to be later rewarded by patches that cleared up most of the issues and mods that allowed us to overcome the rest of them. I became affiliated with bsdterritory, a reasonable large fan community that we continued into ETQW as quakewarsterritory. I never got good enough with Radiant to complete a map for W:ET, but I learned a fair deal about scripting, and fixed/altered a ridiculous quantity of map scripts. This was more of a hobby for me…it’s so much easier to correct other people’s work than to generate new content!
I did play Call of Duty 1 singleplayer, and I thought it was reasonably good. But I still went crawling back to ET.
I played a good deal of ETQW, and I enjoyed it, but the vehicles spoiled it a bit for me, as I was a W:ET purist.
I did buy and play Brink, and while I enjoyed some aspects, like the movement, it just didn’t fire on all cylinders for me.
In recent years, I have gone back to playing RPGs mostly (DDO). I confess to playing a bit of TF2 from time to time for mindless cartoony fragging. I play a fair amount of Civ 4 in the evening after the kids are in bed. If I return to playing FPSs more often, it would probably only be an ET style game. The fact that Dirty Bomb will be F2P definitely increases the chances that I will be playing it. Now that I’m pushing 40, I just don’t have the time I used to have for fragging, so I need to make my gaming time count, and I have to be flexible about what I play.
My name is Adrian. I live in Poland. I’m a student. My first gaming machine was NES, I remember I was really addicted to the games like Super Mario Bros. or Contra (my fav!). Then there was Sony PSX, great console as well, I used to spend whole days with friends on playing multiplayer games
My first PC was Athlon XP 1500+, 256MB DDR RAM and GF 4MX 440. It was running games like Virtua Fighter 2, Mortal Kombat 4, GTA3/VC/SA, FarCry, NFS UG/UG2/MW, CoD 1, PES 5 just fine. Woah, it took way too big part of my life!
Now I’m not that interested in games anymore unfortunately. 80% of my gaming time I spend on banning cheaters and administrating my W:ET server (yes, this game is not dead yet!). I’m not so good in analyzing gameplay aspects of a game but I love discovering new stuff and tricks in server-side part, that’s the main reason why I develop an own server binary for my W:ET gameserver with a friend.
Other games which I’ve got on my PC and spend time on sometimes: Call of Duty 4 (I still like to play on OpenWarfare Mod servers), Call of Duty: MW2 (fourDeltaOne thing), Empire Total War (one of my fav games!), League of Legends (I don’t play it very often but when I do, I do it with friends only), Dirty Bomb (unfortunately I cannot find any additional time to play the game now…).
I’m more a casual player, I’ve never played any pro tournaments in any game. My adventure with W:ET became pretty late, I belive it started in 2007. I regret I’ve never experienced ETQW or BRINK game, I did not decide to buy any of those 2 titles because of negative opinions I heard, now it’s obviously too late to “taste” ETQW/BRINK because both games are dead…
Hello everyone I’m DeTh. I am from Chicago IL where I live with my wife.
I am a competitive gamer and started on my first title back in VCoD. Since then I have competed in a variety of games including Brink and TF2. In addition I am a lover of all games from video to pen and paper RPG’s (group permitting).
I am really looking forward to Dirty Bomb as I see great potential in it and hope that I can provide some feedback to help further this games development.
Hello Guys,
I’m Rebel and it’s been a long time since i’ve been on the forums, i stopped checking them daily after my studies and sports got in the way of enemy territory. But now i’m back, prepare!
So first about me:
Real name: Evert Etienne (yes, i’m a boy)
Age: 17
Country: Belgium
City: Leuven
Activities: School (Last year of middle school), icehockey (national team and my own home team, this takes up the most time), diving, drumming and computers.
So i got into computers around 5 years ago when i just recieved my very first laptop and some friend recommend enemy territory. After playing that a while i joined [UJE] clan and i really liked it there. I also got in touch with some NQ developers and helped out on some bug testing.
As far as gaming goes, it’s mostly enemy territory because it was free and not so heavy because i only a have laptop here. But i really enjoyed it and it got me into programming.
That’s about it, feel free to ask!
cya all around!
Hello everyone,
30 yrs, developer, new guy.
Never played ET, wanted but couldn’t afford ET: QW at the time. Always heard alot of good things about ET but never really got the chance to get into it. Got into Brink however, stuck with it stubbornly until it died out, still been hopping online every now and then (there’s usually about 1 server with people playing still).
Always enjoyed twitchy, skill-based games, spent a good deal of my youth at the arcades, and then consoles and DOS-games. Got so inspired by games that it fueled my early days of developing, wanting to create my own game.
What games do I play? Well, most anything. I’ve tried to get my hands on anything and everything since my very first Nintendo. My favorite genre is by far FPS, but I deeply enjoy arcade, rpg, and especially mmorpg.
The first game-related memory I have is Mario. The second is probably Commanche, for DOS. Favorite games pre 2000 is Duke3D, Jazz Jackrabbit, Epic Pinball, and Phantasy Star IV. It’s also when I got my first run-in with proto-fps’s, like Wolf3D and Doom. Frankly, Doom scared the **** out of me, but it nevertheless left an everlasting impression.
I didn’t really get into the online-scene of FPS’s until Planetside 1. I did play a few matches here and there with friends, most often in LANs, but I never really understood the draw, until Planetside. Sure, it was rough, even by that day’s standards, but I was hooked from day one.
After that, I started drifting between games a bit, playing some Battlefield 2, the early COD’s, etc. Never liked CS. Lost a few years to WoW, and so on.
At the moment I’m chilling in Battlefield 3 and Planetside 2 when my friends are online. Really enjoy Loadout, though I doubt I’ll actually become hooked on it.
I enjoyed Brink a lot, as mentioned, and I was sad to see it die out. So naturally, when I heard news of a new game from Splash Damage, I perked my ears. The teaser got me interested, and the gameplay video had me on my seat. I simply couldn’t resist, I want this game to succeed, and well, bought a pack. And here I am. Wow, all so fast.
I’ve had my first few rounds ingame, and I can barely believe my eyes. The closest word to describe my feelings during, after, and still, is “giddy”.
So well, hi!
Hi Everyone!
Name is Glenn, and I am 35 years old. I live in Oakville Ontario, and work at an automotive R&D center. Other than gaming, I play in a metal band called Tsargrad, check us out and like out page!
(We are new and need the love)
Although I played many early games, like wolf 3D etc… and early Atari games, I never considered myself a gamer. When I finally came across ET, that’s when I became really into games. ET was for me the greatest game of all time, and not since then have I played a single game for that many total hours I’m sure. I met Ender and a great group of people, and we played in STA/TWL for as long as we could. Still to this day, we all have ET installed, and get the bug every once in a while to play.
I love the class based shooters, and mainly play medic. I usually do well at that class, because I don’t mind having to stand behind people that can shoot!
I do though enjoy playing other games, and well I have more games on steam, than I would like to admit… Damn steam sales… get me everytime! (add me on steam kiddspooky) I am not much into sp games, so if you ever need a coop partner, look me up!
I have played every SD game, and loved them all. Except, by the times I got around to ET:QW… it was kinda dead. So we played against bots for the most part. I kick myself all the time for being slow to get to the table for that one…
I’m so pleased to be a part of the SD community, and always try to get something extra to help the community. I am not very vocal, so maybe its not noticed… but thigns like helping ENder with the community Brink nights, the ET squads and matches etc… bought QW for friends so we could all play together etc… main thing is… I Hate playing alone.
anyway, thanks for reading. You guys are the best community ever, and I’m thankful for SD for making the greatest medic classes that have ever been made… (including DB which has an AMAZING MEDIC)
