Introduce Yourself!

(Verticae) #241

So I’m Verticae (or vrt, whichever), and if you’ve played competitive ET:QW we’ve probably talked anyway. Anyway, I figured I’d join this mess and start yelling at people now that my PC has finally been fixed after having been bricked for 13 months. And who knows, I might get to know some maps and strats in time to start doing shoutcasts if this puppy kicks off competitively.

Also, urmom.

Nice to see more ET:QW players here!

Welcome for all new faces :penguin:

hi iWi, hi vert, hi new US pipl

I am just curious now (after reading previous posts), what do people think - is W:ET really really nowadays regarded as old-skool or is it not? I thought it’s not soo old a game, only 10 y/o - and it is still kicking I heard… When is this magic moment in time when a game becomes old skool?

I would say it’s when pipl start playing another game and may or may not have much success in it. I think this has many times something to do with the matter. Then they start comparing it to the game they used to play and how things were better then

(-iWi-) #245

well personally ,I’m always looking for something new - original. The comparison is a blind way. … “reference on the subject” sounds better. ( DB= team play).

I’d say it’s when the majority of the playerbase moves on to releases 2 (or more) generations after. W:ET qualifies.

(Dthy) #247

So QW will qualify when DB comes out? SCHWEET!

(Sketcho) #248

Hi all!

Well currently I’m known as Sketcho. I’ve played games far too long and am far too old to still be playing them.

My most recent history was a long time playing ET:QW (in the UK as NEXTOR) but then moving to Oz and changing to Sketcho as there was a NEXTEN.

I played ET:QW both competitively in EU and Oz and loved it. I moved to Brink and well that was the last FPS I played until now.

Looking forward to the future of DB!!!

(sunshinefats) #249

Well, just wanted to say a formal hello.
I’ve been a fan of online fps games for quite a while and as a big fan of et and etqw I have a lot of hope that this one will live up to that standard, which is why I decided to go ahead and jump in early with the rest of you.
I played rtcw, et, etqw and brink quite a bit(etqw the most by far), and I have dabbled in other offerings like the cod series and the like.
Going back a little too far and probably letting you know just how much of an old man I am (lol) I used to like rise of the triad quite a bit too.
At any rate, I’ve not had a lot of time put into dirtybomb just yet, and I admit that I’m skeptical at this point, but as I had, I’m holding on to hope; there’s still plenty of time to iron out the bugs and it’s certainly exciting to be able to witness that process and take part in what seems to be a relatively friendly community.
So, in short, “hi!”

Hi, all! :stroggbanana:

I guess I should finally make an intro too so here it is briefly.

So my first fps games were Wolf3D, Doom 1&2 and Duke Nukem 3D. My first clan was with friends in QW (quakeworld). After that came CS beta and we all started playing that. I stopped playing CS somewhere around when they made Steam. The game had lost it’s speed that it had in beta versions. Movement speed lowered and bunny hopping removed etc. Also at some point I played a few matches in Day of Defeat with another clan.

Then there was ET where I joined KKP and played happily for few years. Unfortunately ET died a bit and I had to settle for ETQW. I found a bunch of nice guys and girls in prkl so I joined them and played some games in promod. But the game had it’s problems so I just settled for playing randomly on public servers.

Brink lasted for few days.

I’m really hoping that with DB I finally get a game that I can play for few years. That requires a polished game with fast movement and accurate shooting (while moving).

(rand0m) #251

well. I finally decided to buy the alpha invite for the $120. Looking forward to try this game. I’m 26 and a USA player so hopefully can help get some population on them for testing. I played RTCW since the day of release. It was really one of my first competitive games I played. I took it more serious even then quake iii arena. I mostly played pretty competitive then and played a pub alot. I always enjoyed pubs all night long in wolf and et. I tried Brink when it came out played it a little bit but just wasn’t too much of a fan. Hoping us the gamers can help change it for the better. Looking forward to playing some games hopefully quite often.

Hi there, upgraded my elite pack to legendary today. Massive fan of online shooters but haven’t had many that have held my interest lately. Really enjoyed the games SD have done in the past except ET:QW (Yes, yes, I know) so was hopeful about DB and upon trying it for the first time earlier today, was pleased to see it’s already a solid, attractive shooter.
Looking forward to seeing the game grow.

(prophett) #253

Just updated to the legendary pack as well, so take it easy on me (8{

Started playing online First Person Shooters back in 2003 when Enemy Territory was released. I played that game for about 4-5 years through which my team managed to win some some of the more popular leagues, as well as rep Canada some some nations cup annual tourneys. ET is where the large majority of my best gaming memories come from. I met a lot of really cool people there.

After my ET days I played a little Call of Duty 2 in CAL-IM and stuck with that game until the Quake Wars beta was released during the summer of '07.

When Quake Wars didn’t turn out to be the game I expected/wanted (competitively), I made the jump to Call of Duty 4 where I played a couple of seasons of CAL-im in '08 and early '09.

I eventually returned to play season 3 of Quake Wars with Hubris but competition in that game died shortly afterward. I played the (awful) Wolfentein remake for a short time after that and managed to take third place with Team Fate in a Tournament Sponsored by Intel.

Dabbled in css, brink, bf2, dods, mw2, blops1, blops 2, bc2, bf3, tf2, cs:go, and a LOT of other fps games (pretty much every f2p).

Pubbing/trolling in Blacklight Retribution (BLR) has taken up most of my time in the past year.

Looking forward to Dirty Bomb. I hope it is a game I can enjoy competitively for years to come. I am getting tired of bouncing around from game to game, month after month, looking for something decent.

TOP 5:

et
rtcw
cod4
qw
BLR

Hello! I’m new to gaming and first started with ETQW. Immediately fell in love. Have been extremely open to trying any game you guys come out with. Dont know what happened to BRINK but I still play ETQW. Became friends with a good community of gamers involved with ETQW and BRINK. Hope I can help and wish all the best.

Welcome to the new players.
Now get your asses on the servers and play! :stroggtapir:

(_RaiM) #256

Hi everyone,

So, my name’s Rémy, i’m 21, French, and i just got into the Closed Alpha since last friday, it’s pretty new for me ! (=

I started playing online First Person Shooters with Battlefield 2142 around 2006. After that, i traveled a lot between Battlefield Bad Company 2, Crysis, Battlefield 3 and so on… I’ve also had the chance to create and manage a multigaming clan, nammed iGamerz (from 2006 to 2010), and Battlefield Bad Company 2 teams, nammed GlobalTeam and xoxo !

Two years ago, i started to play Brink, and i have to say that i really felt in love with this way of gaming, and with this studio. I played a lot of ESL One-Night-Cups with my ex-team (Defiance), and then, the game died… Unfortunately, the game hasn’t met its expecting success ! :frowning:

During the past two years, i worked as a manager for my BF3 team (a french one), known as eXtensive! few times ago.

I’m spending most of my nights playing Day Z, with some of my oldest mates.

I am really expecting lots of things from Dirty Bomb, competitively speaking. I hope it’s going to be a great game, which i can enjoy for some years.
As a lots of players said before my post, i’m also tired of jumping from a game to another one, always looking for something decent… I want Dirty Bomb to be a really great game !

That said, i’m feeling alone on Dirty Bomb’s servers… if anyone is interested in playing / sharing experience with me, i’m available for playing and speaking from 19:00 PM to 23:30 PM, GMT +1  Don’t hesitate to add me as your friend !

I’m looking forward to see you soon on some servers !

Rémy

Hi there, long time player of RtCW, occasionally ET, actually just reinstalled RtCW, saw Warwitch’s casts and heard the general interest in dirty bomb, that some old RtCW folks might be into it. Played rtcw mainly under the name end0. Have enjoyed playing the one day I’ve had db installed. A couple questions if you don’t mind-

  • what time are servers more active? i was disappointed to find that most of the day, most and sometimes even all are empty
  • is there an official irc room?
  • what is oneframeinterval?
  • is there a way to turn off autoreload?
  • any other tips from any oldschool rtcw players in terms of settings that would make the transition better?

thanks

(Volcano) #258

theres a inner circle irc chat but thats restricted to the those who paid 240$+ for db

Frome Smooth:
OneFrameThreadLag
(UBOOL) Whether to allow the rendering thread to lag one frame behind the game thread.

To paraphrase one of our programmers:
By having this enabled (default setting) the render-thread is updated 1 frame after the game-thread. The goal of this is to help prevent delays in the game-thread adversely impacting the framerate. A side-effect is that user input isn’t ‘recognised’ (shown on-screen) until a frame later.

(wash0ut) #259

Hello there, I’m wash0ut (Rhys) . Played quite a bit of Competitive ET during its NA heyday. A short stint playing for team USA in the nations cup as their rnader. Got sucked into college and the real world and sort of drifted away from PC gaming as a whole. I now work as a web developer and spend most of my days glued to my desktop/laptop, and the urge to get back into PC gaming has been hitting me pretty hard. Then i stumbled on the dirtybomb subreddit and the decision was made.

(attack) #260

Hi im attack. i played et for years and thosands of hours.qurently stopped playing,i have the feeling to have all seen in this game the fun isnt there anymore(simply overplayed).Im member of AoW and always a little bit overexited.
