In the news...

A mighty good write up. Seems like everyone who sees it in motion is very impressed.

It moves? I thought it was a comic what with the pictures we’ve been getting.

Gamespy spied on Paul Wedgwood and got some questions answered:
http://xbox360.gamespy.com/xbox-360/splash-damage-project-untitled/1016780p1.html

Very interesting bit:

On How S.M.A.R.T. Uses Velocity
Paul Wedgewood: Think how many times you’ve run towards a frame and you’ve jumped, and instead of jumping over the top of it you’ve just clipped the top of it and stepped onto it or something. Our game, again, it takes into account your velocity. If you walk up to it, stop, and hit jump and push forward, you’ll just jump and step up onto it. If I jump towards it and hit jump, it’ll do a step up. Instead of jumping it’ll just lift my feet up and my body goes up and I continue running, I don’t lose velocity. But if I’m sprinting towards it and I hit jump, I actually vault and then slide across the table, coming off the other end and maintaining my velocity.

Now, I can't give you three buttons on a console controller that let you choose between jump, step up, and vault. But you're only ever gonna use those three things in one of three conditions. You're walking, jogging, or sprinting. So when we're talking about intuitive interpretation of what you're trying to get done, it's actually a pretty straightforward criterion for trying to figure out what you're trying to do. If you're sprinting full tilt towards a wall and you're looking up towards the ledge, it's okay for us to guess that's what you're going to do. You can always interrupt it if you don't want to anyway. If you jog towards it, though, you'll just hit the wall, it's not going to do anything. It's only if you give us permission to hit the jump button for you.
Dutch Brink preview from Gamescom:
http://www.psonly.nl/previews/1229/Brink/

Conclusion translated to the language of many: “Good graphics, very good audio, very strong looking gameplay and co-op make Brink a title to look out for and one that you should possibly acquire”
Lol, the comments are discussing which side are the goodies and which side are the baddies, while we all know that the old and tired ‘good vs bad’ got abandoned after the noble Strogg defeated the vile GDF.

That was an ace interview*, thank you for giving up the time to go so in depth, both gameprophets and radho/bongoboy.

Some really interesting new information in there as well, especially about the possible games for windows live/steam angle. I won’t spoil (as it were) because its an interview well worth setting aside 37 minutes for, but thank you all for further illuminating those of us who haven’t been fortunate enough to attend gamescom/quakecon.

*even with the demonic nostril lighting.

Awesome interview U.K.Visuals. Definitely the best one I’ve seen and its mostly because Rahdo was just speaking so candidly the whole time. I really enjoy seeing so much dedication to making the best possible game. BRINK is no doubt going to be a massive success.

(engiebenjy) #108

Yeah great interview, great backstory for the game too!

(madness) #109

Huh ? Shouldn’t you finish this one first ? :stuck_out_tongue:

Imagine if Brink failed in reviews and sales, that would be pretty embarrassing now with all these plans…you must be really confident about this game.

(Exedore) #110

I’d suggest watching the interview they linked, then making up your own mind about what was meant.

starts around 02:32. it’s really disappointing for fans when they show screenshots of brink and then show videos of tf2 and mirror’s edge when they talk about the game …

“While there were no female characters in the demo, I’ve been assured they will be in the game, it’s just that the models and clothing weren’t ready for PAX.”, there you have it, female gamers!

The Goozex Report thinks Brink looks set to succeed where Mirror’s Edge failed in terms of freedom of movement:

D’oh! Sounds like a mis-communication there. I’m sure what Paul meant was that there are females in the storyline of Ark… right now, there are no playable ladies, I’m sorry to say. It was a choice made early on to ensure the most character customization possible…
