Improving/New Obj Types

Side obj what is this ?

(Glottis-3D) #42

i vote for

  1. ‘drop&charge’ mechanics! (OR even stick & charge)
  2. being able to charge Multiple c4

an example how a doc run should work and how intense it can be when done right

[QUOTE=attack;491963]an example how a doc run should work and how intense it can be when done right

Actual running starts just after 1:50. It seems to be so intense because the timer is almost up and the axis are right behind him, at one point his health drops to 11hp. The things XT is missing if they wanted to recreate this feeling are firstly map needs to have a long doc run that can be intercepted at multiple points. Secondy a way for the defending team to catch up to the person running.

Not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but Blacklight had a nice way for the players to interact with the objective they were hacking. You had the 4 digit pass code and basically needed to select left or right to choose the proper sequence. The quicker you could do that, the faster the hack was.

I’ll try to dig up a video later today.

Hacking starts @ 0:41

Looks pretty cool.

We went over stuff like that already, seems the no one wanted to put much effort into objectives beyond holding down a key. I mentioned already about a code generating which you need to enter, the faster you do it the faster the C4 arms for example.

It would be more fun to have a “speed run” or “duck shoot” mini game over code typing. The average guy could sprint through or spray down the targets, where someone else might be able to maneuver through more quickly or take out all the targets faster. Honestly I still think that completely new types of fast paced/real-time interactive objs would be better time spent.

(stealth6) #49

In the Blacklight example you have to press 2 buttons, so I don’t think it’s a stretch. As for reiterating ideas… It’s not the first time

Not fan of the actual mechanic, but I don’t like the idea of a mini game to plant.
I don’t like The fix animation when you plant :

(DarkangelUK) #51

Which I guess makes these types of threads pointless since holding a button is holding a button, doesn’t matter how you dress it up.

(BomBaKlaK) #52

I like the plant mechanic you have in previous SD games, bomb drop + Tool to plant = Multi arming, miss plant, tricks plant, arming the bomb of a falling mate, etc … now it’s just press the button … So it’s not exactly the same thing.
Freedom of movement is gone during the process, and a bit of teamwork to …

And at the end we have zone to capture, you don’t even have a button to push  … worst obj type ever !

Oh god no, please, this is so unfit for a multiplayer FPS.

Remember, we FPS players are basically bloody beasts only able to fire our gun screaming. Mini-games or code generating stuff are for TPS or solo FPS (go check Warframe’s alarms mechanic on Youtube), it doesn’t add anything to a multiplayer based on speed and reflexes. I mean, when planting you want to have a possible way out. If your stuck in some kind of mini-game, how do you stop planting and go for your enemy’s blood (screaming)? When you’re going for an obj you’re usually really focused on what you do because this is most dangerous place to be in a multiplayer FPS, you can’t allow some mini-game to lock you on the ground with no possible escape making of you an even easier target than what you already are.

I may sound a bit like an ETQW fan (what I am actually) but this game mechanism for bomb planting, obj building, hacking and all was really fine. It allows skillfull objective making, you can start planting a bomb, stop to defend yourself against an defender then finish the plant. What’s nice with it is that you don’t stop playing the fast FPS when making the obj. My point is that you don’t need to break the rythm of a FPS game by adding something too different in it such as codes, maths or even puzzles, there is no consistency in it. Imho, mini-games are for Gameboy, not Extraction.

(rookie1) #54

Long timeago I was talking about spray paint now that im seeing it in inFamous: Second Son .If we had one each that can be use on cam or movement detector that open door or anything could make a little something out of the ordinary

(DarkangelUK) #55

Actually, you can’t. If you stop planting then you start back from the start again, you can’t drop a C4 then make sure the area is clear, can’t have multiple people arming. I have no idea how this would break the rhythm in it’s current form when really it has no rhythm at all… run to an area and hold a button, that’s it. Continualy people are asking how to spice up objectives or add something fresh but seems people just can’t be bothered under the guise of ‘breaking flow’. The idea is having a default time, but giving the possibility of reducing that time, therefore negating the ‘it’s a dangerous place’ argument as well. If you simply don’t want it then you don’t want it, I can understand that, but using arbitrary and flimsy reasons for not having it is just off.

(DarkangelUK) #56

I wonder if a system like Gears of War active reload would work. You press the button, it takes the standard amount of time and you don’t need to bother about a thing. You can however take the risk of doing it faster, get it right and you perform the task in half the time, get it wrong and it takes 1.5x the normal time… risk & reward.

(Mustang) #57

No objective mini-games please, ruins situational awareness.

(Rex) #58

Absolutely agreed. Mini-games for objectives are just silly and don’t fit at all. You should pay attention to your surrounding and not to a stupid mini-game.

(DarkangelUK) #59

And once again we’re back to these types of threads being pointless if all anyone wants is a single button hold. And might I say back to ignorance when you have the choice to just not take the mini-game route but it allows others that want to to do so.

“omg no mini-games plz!”
“but you don’t have to if you don…”
“NO MINI-GAMEZ!”
“but you can do it the normal way if you want…”
“ARGHAFMDINIGAMEZNOP:Z!”

Angel, you dont understand that your opinion is worth less than others. Also, every other person’s opinion is worth less when it’s close to yours. And if you could finally stop on those constructive comments and brainstorming to develop ideas with others. That is downright annoying and every time you do this, some of the better people (yes, even the person is better, not only the opinion!) have to post against you. Cant you just save them time?
