I'm loving BRINK, do I troll?

That must be annoying and frustrating. Thankfully, this doesn’t happen for me.

Art Style, meh, its a choice. imo those over the top facial accents look ugly

Like you said, it’s a choice, so it doesn’t matter either way.

Graphics, I wouldn’t know. This game requires more resources then Crysis 2 and it still looks worse. if my PC would be upgraded then I might see some nicer graphics, but if it can run Crysis 2 with better graphics on lower resources…

You are missing the point. You are more concerned with going off on a tangent about Brink’s high resource usage, than acknowledging that the game does indeed look good. Whether or not your PC can achieve them or not, is irrelevant. Just taking a look at screenshots/video online or even looking here will show you that the game (can) look amazing.

lol story, those cutscenes are nothing but annoying as hell. The only story you get is: It’s a contemporary green vision on a floating manmade island and they lose contact with the outside world and resources are running low. That’s more a background then a story. The rest you have to imagine yourself :s.

"the rest you have to imagine for yourself…" so the game doesn’t include audio logs that are filled with backstory? Must have been bonus content in my version…

Abilities, what Chris said. I wonder from what games they got those ability ideas from?

Who cares where the ideas came from, that is irrelevant. The point is that they are present in the game. Games borrow features/mechanics from each other all the time.

Customisation, what Chris said.
If you like to customise your character maybe you could play Sims 3, that is a game that sets itself apart from all the M-4 and AK-47 wielding US-Armed Forces soldiers and their insurgent counterparts from other temporary fps games

Why would he want to play Sims 3? Although it offers customization, Sims 3 isn’t a class-based team objective shooter - Brink is.

Oh, and did I mention bugs?

Yes - like a million times in past threads.

There’s always talk about the “Justice League” on here - fanboys defending the game to any depth, yet I constantly see people on here who seem to go to any depth to discredit the game - even as far as nitpicking and arguing over somebody elses opinions. It works both ways.

Justice League disbanded a while back, BHC are the new kids on the block.

Only if you made this post in: Brink Community Tech Help

Btw what’s actually the definition of a triple A game?

AAA is basically a marketing term. Basically it’s about how much advertising has happened and how much you charge for the game. There are no real metrics that can be applied that says “This is / isn’t a AAA game”.
If the publisher says it’s AAA then it’s AAA. If it calls itself AAA it has some expectations to live up to though because it implies bigger budget and more polish.

If someone has a problem with the art style(not the graphics) he/she is a complete moron if he/she bought the game nevertheless. Since that’s the most obvious difference to other fps games. I for example can’t play TF2 because of the art. I mean the textures are sharp and the game actually looks very nice, but everything looks like out of a looney toons cartoon. I’m a penciller and I love those old WB-cartoons, but NOT in a shooter game. So I don’t play the game.

And abilities; tell me when I’m wrong, but pyro mines, turrets, molotovs, caldrops, supply transfer, lazarus grenade, com post upgrading, field regen, emp grenade, etc, etc, etc are also abilities. And quite unique ones If I might add.

Story; no its not a mass effect kind of story, no its not a deus ex like multi-path stealth game and yes it not even has a traditional SP. But there is an overall believeable story wich I’d like to discover further. The game is basically the synopsis of a really interesting story. A little short, but nevertheless interesting. Both factions are interesting and have personality. It wouldn’t hurt though if somebody would write a paperback novel about the quite rich backstory of Brink.

Customization; Aehm? If you give a “F” about it why the hell don’t you just go and play your random fps game with only three different classes and outfits for each side? It was clear from the beginning, that SD put their emphasis and much of their resources in the abilitie to customize your char. That’s a huge part of the game. Even though its not very important ingame. But then again for what do we need great graphics, are they not as unimportant too? Should we play CS 1.6 forever. I think most people don’t remotely understand what a huge effort this customization-thing must have been for SD. It wasn’t just a gimmick for them. It was/is the soul of Brink. Even more than SMART. At least thats what I consider.

(.Chris.) #70

Give it a rest, I bought ET:QW not liking the idea of vehicles but it turned out to be a great purchase which I’ve enjoyed for years now, the rest of game made up for my initial dislike for vehicles, likewise many were hoping that despite a different art style and a Barbie Boutique mode that the rest of the game in Brink would be awesome and the stuff they weren’t keen on wouldn’t be an issue. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case and one those issues actually hurts the game.

(.FROST.) #71

Sorry, but you are too hardcore aehm I mean “mediocre” for me. I understand your opinion, even share it, BUT I in contrary like the art and the customization stuff. And won’t get tired to mention that in every second post. Thats the huge difference between me and most gameplay focused players. If it wasn’t for the style I probably would be gone long ago. But I still have the hope that somehow Brink will be a consistent IP like COD or MOH, but for the objective guys and somebody who appreciates a different visual approach.

(Crytiqal) #72

Who cares what the artstyle is

I bought this game to shoot people in the head.

Unfortunatly, that is not up to me whether or not you make a headshot.

The game doesn’t look better then any other FPS released this year tho, that was my point. And in failing to achieve that, it still requires more resources.

Yea audiologs, lol. So instead of experiencing the story, you have to listen to an audiolog. How intense and
emerging.

  1. Look here, you bought a game with a great storyline.

  2. Really? I don’t feel like I am playing a storyline?

  3. Oh thats cause the game and the story are seperate.

  4. <_<

Guess I know what you are talking about.

But couldn’t you figure that out before, that Brink is not your game. I mean didn’t the devs allready stated in every bit of promo vid, that Brink isn’t about one shot kills/aka headshots?

(.Chris.) #74

He never mentioned one shot kills. In ET and ET:QW it took 3-4 headshots to kill someone, you could do this with 3-4 shots as you hit where you pointed, in Brink you’ll be lucky you even hit the player model, never mind it’s head.

(.FROST.) #75

Why striving for headshots if it still takes you 3 to 4 shots? Isn’t that the whole point of HS; annoying your enemy with a single “pop” and giving them a free ride to the respawn?

(INF3RN0) #76

Frost; master chairmen of the Brink hard-headed club? We play games here, not artsy dress up dolls… maybe your google translate is broken if you haven’t gotten the point yet. The things people say in the name of Brink is pure madness.

(Crytiqal) #77

I understand FROST clearly has no idea what he is talking about and is just being ignorant.

If you had played previous game of SD or id games you would know what I am talking about.
It requires skill to aim for the head since it’s a smaller hitbox, yet you can kill faster when you do.

I have no idea why SD suddenly made a 180 turn and made shooting someone as skillfull as aiming your gigantic circle in the near facinity of an enemy player requiring 0 precision.

If SD would have mentioned that aiming is impossible and useless, like it is, then I wouldn’t have bought it

(.Chris.) #78

Cause its quicker than aiming for the body…

(DarkangelUK) #79

Wait, so in a shooter (and quite a lot of shooters in general I might add), headshots do more damage… and Frost is asking why aim for the head? A silly spread system makes headshots more random luck than skill, and he doesn’t understand why this is frustrating to players? It sounds so silly, but just want to make sure I’m getting this right…

(.FROST.) #80

Uhm, I’m not hard headed and I can understand you quite well. Though I just don’t understood this whole 3 headshot killing thing. And I never said Brink is perfect, never. And I don’t speak in the name of Brink, I speak in the name of my taste. The artstyle and the setting was just the only thing that kept me playing this game. After the first couple hours I became quite bored by the repetetive gameplay and the shortage of gameplay modes. But somehow I overcame that phase and enjoy the game ever since. Though, again, its not a perfect game. And as I allready mentioned a couple of times before, I never played a SD game, so I have no reference.

And concerning this dress up issue; I only have 2 chars that I play, but its just fun to see all the differently dressed up players. It creates a unique atmosphere. The way they look, move and talk. Most people give a “S” about that and that’s ok too. Did I say they are wrong with their taste? No I just questioned why they are still playing this game, just bitching around in the forum about this game or just bought the game in the first place.

Watching 2 bad movies in the cinema costs you more than a copy of Brink. Do you also write dozents and dozents of posts about how bad the movie was you just saw?
