Don’t be afriad to tell people you just installed the game. Many players who would otherwise give you a hard time for “newb” mistakes will be more helpful. Of course there will still be a few jerks…

Have fun with it. I recently played some ET matches after a long time and it brought back soooo many good memories.

I would recommend the following:

  • Choose a support class for the first matches (Medic/FieldOp). Give out plenty of ammo/health boxes and support your team. You’ll learn A LOT from your teammates just by staying with/following them.

  • When you’re done with that, switch to Engineer and try to complete/defend those ojectives. And be careful with your mines! Again you will learn new things. :blah:

  • Next would be the Soldier class. When you know where to set up this MG42 or where to camp with a Panzerfaust, you can deal quite some damage to the enemy.

  • Covert Ops… well, you’ll see… Just don’t choose this class when there are already a lot of them around. This helps no one but the enemy team…

When you know the classes and the maps by heart, decide whats best for your TEAM and help them out with whatever class is needed.

And don’t be horny about XP. :stuck_out_tongue:

Unfortunately, I cant play until saturday because my college summer courses will be over, and then I can travel back home to play on my comp. You should try to find an ET-Pro server with ~ 24 slots.
Try to use an external server browser (like “All Seeing Eye”).
And you should try to find a server without any other mods that plays the stock maps with maybe one or two customs.
Otherwise you have to download several MB’s of maps and mods (ET-Pro is about 1,5 MB).
I think in the forums of the ET resource site have been some threads with server suggestions for beginners:

But be warned.
Playing W:ET might make you addictive.

You will be adicted for about 2 years. At least I was… After the fall of my fun clan the nethousiasm for ET dropped as well as i didnt see my old mates anymore, its sad.

Hates ppl with much money that want to buy a server for you and then become part of your clan, seems nice until tehy start kicking/banning like everybody while your clan was based on friendship and warnings used before a kick to keep the atmosphere nice in the server adn great gameplay/fun while using only a few kicks/month…

i’ve been playing zie wolfenstein series since rtcw beta1 ! about 5 years now!

it’s been such a long time that some clanmates got married along the way, others have siblings now, and we all still play together (not as much as we used to tho). oh and we’ve created a lan house last month! wolfenstein seriously rocked our lifes tbh! eheheh xD

this saturday we’re having a big “get together party” at our lan house (tho we don’t have ET there because ID Soft/activision is taking to damn long to give out licenses to install the game), to watch the football WC match between Portugal and England (england will loose 2-0 btw, sorry SD xD). Oh and we’re planning to get back into competition when ET:QW is released.

PS2: sorry for the offtopic! just join a server and go Medic (lots of health + health packs) and follow either other medics, eng’s or field ops. just get out of the way of soldiers. and if get lost, just check your map (default key is G) and you’ll see all the objectives + your teammates, plus a top perspective of the map. HF and stop playing BF because it’s really a poor game. xD

The only difficult part of getting into W:ET these days is finding good servers. Most of the servers are ETPub, which I don’t find to be fun in most cases, and good ETPro servers are few and far between. On top of that, a lot of the people still playing aren’t that noob friendly, but that’s just what happens with a game like this. It’s certainly not as bad as loading up QuakeWorld.

I love modding and all, but sometimes I wish there were more restrictions on how people set up their servers, or at least some incentive to not fiddle with the gameplay so much. It kind of sucks to have this big division between server types, but I guess part of being a more competitive player is being able to deal with being a minority. It’s one of the reasons I end up playing more counterstrike, it’s easier to find a server with maps I like and no noob settings. Actually I think that’s the whole appeal of CS, it’s simple (hence why everyone likes a shyte map like de_dust).

All that being said, W:ET is still as awesome as ever (I don’t think I’ll ever again reach the many hours of joy I reached playing fueldump when the test was released, but that’s how it goes for every game.)

Ok, I’m downloading everything. What the hell is ETPro and why would I want it ? Also I download ET and the 2.6 patch will the game automatically update to 2.6b if so how do I stop it?

ET Pro is a common W:ET modification. While leaving the gameplay unchanged, it basically adds more customization for both the server and the client, and also provides with a more informative hud.

The game won’t automatically update to 2.60b. No worries there.

ETPro is the “professional” mod for W:ET, and is arguably the best mod for any purpose (although I’m a bit biased). Some prefer ETPub, which is - you guessed it - the main “public” mod.

There are a few other relatively popular mods like JayMod and Shrub, as well as the standard ETMain, but for the most part you will encounter ETPro and ETPub.

Whether or not you want any of these mods is irrelevant, since ETMain servers are few and far between these days, and you won’t be playing on a mod server without downloading that mod.

I would strongly suggest you get a third party server browser, as the in-game one is lacking. I suggest this because it can help make your W:ET experience a better one. As example would be The All-Seeing Eye from Yahoo. It’s got a nag screen if you don’t register, but it’s the major browser so I mention it. This way you can easily check and even create custom filters for server settings like sv_maxRate for example. Play on servers where that setting is never less than 13000, and preferably not less than 25000, for the smoothest gameplay.

What brakets ? Also when I download the ETPro mod where do I put the folder after extracting it ? And could someone please provide a link for all the appropiate downloads. If it isnt too much trouble, I have everything already but I would rather play it safe by getting downloads that people have test and know work.

I tried pasting that to the ET shortcut and not the etpro shortcut. Only problem is that there isnt an ETpro shortcut in the mod i downloaded. hmmmm

That’s just because I named that shortcut “ETPro.” The shortcut really isn’t necessary anyway, TBH. When you connect to a server, you will be placed in the appropriate fs_game path. The shortcut is more for watching demos in ETPro mode than anything else.

You asked above where to extract ETPro. Again, not really necessary unless you plan on running a server. Just connect to an ETPro server with downloads enabled and you will be all set. There are some slim risks with downloads on, but TBH I wouldn’t worry about that.

Just install W:ET and connect to some servers! It’ll take care of everything else for you!

wrong path problem is usually not leaving a space between ET.exe" and +set
