I’m sure this thread has been done before, so please forgive my ignorance.

It is really annoying the lengths people will go just to get more XP.

If I lay some mines down around a construction, they would run over them and lay them using their mines. To me I don’t care if I get points or not I just want them to stop the enemy. The same with using dynamite, they’ll defuse yours right after laying their own. I just dont see why they bother. One time I just got so annoyed with this Korean guy doing it that I just ignored the whole game and me and him just kept swapping each others mines and he then he started shooting at me.

Lately I’ve been playing on servers that dont have Friendly Fire but be warned if you’re an engineer laying mines as one time I had a guy just continue to run into my mines for the sake of filing a complaint and making me lose XP. He did this so often. He even told the enemy that the mines were cleared for them. I had to resort to killing him every time he ran towards me. It was either me or him. That game was one of my least favourites.

I haven’t encountered many people like that. One guy I can remember, defused my dyno and when I called him on it he said “who cares, same result in the end”. He’s right, but that doesn’t excuse cheap play. If someone gets there first, suck it up and find something else.

If thats the case, then why did he defuse your dyno in the first place?

Bare in mind even with Mine TK’s disabled if a team mate is proceeding to run into your mines and the only way to stop it is to TK him or hope an NME gets to him first then he can still make you lose XP. Imho the whole complaint system wasn’t thought out at first, they implemented it in RTCW (I think this was the first time) they only looked at the good sides of it, and it happened again with ET… possibly even setting the whole complaint system to 0 with obv a sep one for mines/grens (Death grens are a bastard too) and making that the deault rather than it enabled. At least this way servers have to set it rather than servers being setup quickly without everything being enabled such as complaints.

I play mostly on pubs and I don’t think I’ve ever seen stuff like this. I’ve never gotten TK complaints for friends hitting my mines. I’ve never had other engies defuse my stuff to plant their own. The worst I’ve ever seen is stupid engies doing useless stuff like dynoing the bridge on fuel dump after the allies have already gotten through the tunnels.

I think for the most part the complaint system works fine. It gets a bad rap in my oppinion. I’d say 99% of the complaint kicks I’ve seen are due to actual intentional TKers, or at worst the accidental TKer who have panzered their teammates TOO many times even if they were accidental (you all know the guy, if he sees an enemy he panzers him even if there’s 3 teammates around).

I’ve seen engineers killing friendly engineers that were building MG:s and such, to finish it himself and get the xp. I’ve also seen engineers defusing mines and replanting them. Never seen the dynamite issue through.
But they are and will always be just arrogant noobs, why care…

Bear in mind this can sometimes be reasonable if the engineer knows/suspects that a covops has spotted the mines.

In this scenario, if the engy suspects the mines have been spotted he should just be throwing a grenade on them. If they blow up then they’re spotted, if the mines remain then leave them be.

Is it possible to “disable” Mine T/K Complaints??

Yes, and that is acceptable, but as Blade_187 said, in that scenario he/she should have thrown a grenade instead of replanting. If they were spotted it’s quicker than defuseing, and you don’t have to replant when it’s not nescesary to.

It is a server side cvar added in the 1.02 patch:

added cvar (g_disableComplaints) to disable complaint system for certain type of kills, 1 = mines, 2 = airstrike/ffe, 4 = mortar (add together for multiple types).

I’ve been known to disarm mines many times, especially on 1944Beach… Too many times some newb engineer will plant 6-8 mines in the spawn on the hill, around the gate construction and all over the tower construction. Problem is, I’ll need those mines for the command post lane up the canyon… Then some eng cries when I start disarming his mines because we only get 10, and he’s using 8 for useless stuff…

I’ll also go in an “fix” mine fields (Allies on Ressurection (sic)) when people plant them WAY to tight! You get more kills when the field is spread out. I’m amazed at how many people complain when you thin out their mines for a field that now has double coverage, and mines are properly placed for those people that can see mines…

Of course I just get on with it, I only did this thread as a “you know it’s kinda annoying when it happens”

As was mentioned I can understand why some engineers need to replant mines for better positioning. Even I do that. You get lots of people on fuel dump run off and use every single mine there even if by the end of the game not one of those mines has been touched. So you do get some engineers who don’t really know how to plant mines properly. My rant is the obvious ones where they just want the 3 xp is it?

Another thing I’ve had happen to me in a Friendly Fire off server. When I’m a high class medic I would get other medics shoot me out of the way when I try to inject fallen players just so they can do it instead.

A lot of these rants are both at newbies and experience players who do get a lot of their xps from replanting over others mines.

Oh and another time, when I was an engineer I planted dynamite infront of an enemy command post. A covert op just ran up to me and blew both me and it. Not even an apology, well I hope the XP was worth it ~_~

Well, i never defuse some mines, but tell those engineers that they lay them wrong, and smetimes they replant them by theirselfs :wink: . You know what’s annoying? Building those depot defenses in fuel dump and planting all 10 mines over there. Than i ask: Why do you build those depot defenses and lay mines there? Answer: Now the covert ops can’t get to the fuel dump, noob! Argh people can be very stupid :stuck_out_tongue: . That is annoying :frowning: . Also, the friendly engi that disarms dynamites of you, trying to plant their own then and then get killed. But, it are just n00bies who are new and think that when they got much xp their good, thank god it doesn’t happen in clanwars lol :stuck_out_tongue: .

The cheapest trick is the guy who runs over ya mines, then complains, and does it again and again until you get kicked for too many complaints. Razza frazza razza frazza…

Oh, didn’t know that. I knew they would blow up if the enemy threw a grenade on them, didn’t know it made a difference to when the planting team threw grenades on them (which tbh makes no sense :wink: )
