I played Brink at quakecon, some concerns
You can hold the grenade as long as you can, it will never explode while you are holding it.
Then when you release it there is always the same timer before it explodes …
Wrong, partly.

There is a difference in releasing and throwing.
We want to be able to release the grenade, but not throw it for an amount of time.

You can hold a grenade in your hand, but you can release the pin and leave your hand of the lever. Believe me, it will explode in your hand.

You can however count to how long you have fuse left for throwing it, called “priming/cooking” and release it so that it immediatly explodes on impact.

I hope this is possible in BRINK.

It is, but it is a skill you need to purchase, not a default ability.

(Crytiqal) #203

huh did I miss something?
Is being able to cook your grenade a perk in BRINK?

(Kinjal) #204

Are u sured? it sounds weird, like a skill of revive or turret skill . Cooking granade is a base stuff in many games, never seen a perk for it.

(Wraith) #205

I also heard it was a perk.

No it won’t, for goddammit, try it first before answering.

(Nikto) #207

it was a while back, but yes, it was said that cooking a grenade requires an ability

The turret is also a skill you need to purchase.

(tokamak) #209

What? really?

(H0RSE) #210

I don’t know if you’re being sarcastic or not, but yes it appears that way.

Watch the training video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4A5i4tzG1Q

At 0:57 he accesses the Engineer ability page. The first skill says:

Standard Engineer Kit – Engineers can complete Construction and Repair objectives and can boost their teammates’ weapon damage.

And the skill diagonal from that reads:

Light Turret – This lets you plant a light auto-turret which will detect and fire at enemies.

They are separate skills, at least starting out.

(tokamak) #211

Woa indeed. So engineers can only buff weapons by default?

(H0RSE) #212

From what I have seen, ammo boxes for the Soldier, are optional as well.

(Crytiqal) #213

seems kinda weird that keeping hold of a grenade in your hand requires some sort of special ability

Next thing you tell me you got to have a perk to use ironsight

(DarkangelUK) #214

I thought it was shooting grenades in mid-air that was the perk, not the cooking… obviously could be wrong of course.

no, since that’s an attachment.
just like the scopes, the iron sight is an attachment, only it’s a default attachment

Well, seeing as there seems to be a perk for reloading while sprinting, cooking nades doesn’t seem far off.

I have seen it mentioned that both are purchasable abilities.

(Kinjal) #217

cooking nade 0:52

shooting nade 2:29

Sorry m8 but that clarifies nothing. My thoughts were you could cook regardless, but shooting them in mid air was the perk…

(Nikto) #219

both are perks, you’ll have to choose, or choose both, but that’d cripple you i think

(Kinjal) #220

i think video proof it! …or i just hope for it:rolleyes:
