i hate stupid covert ops

(gonzoboi) #1

<rant>
Yes I do. By ‘stupid’ i mean those who use the disguise ability of the covert in a totally pointless way, most notably disguising as enemy ALL the time while being on defense in the Axis team. Nice examples of this are the morons who dress as allies on Battery while defending the first corridor, or walk into the bank room in Goldrush. With this stupid behavior, they just increase confusion, screw their own team, and usually start idiotic flamewars about YOU IDIOT YOU TK’ED ME! OH WELL, YOU’RE AN IDIOT ANYWAY etc… i really really hate covops who do this. DISGUISING AS ENEMY IS FOR INFILTRATION, NOT FOR DEFENSE. If you get tk’ed while disguised on defense, then assume you’re a helpess idiot xp whore and, at least, dont complain… it’s not your mates’ fault. Try playing with a panzer.

Yep, that’s the assumption I usually make. It’s a pain in the ass on Fueldump when you’re Axis and the action moves to the depot and half your team are running around with Allied uniforms on. I presume they do it for the XP. Effectively Cov-Ops are getting an extra 5XP for every Allie they kill (or that someone else kills!) trying to break into the depot, compared to their non-Cov-Ops team-mates. You can understand therefore why they do it, but it’s still a major pain and guess what, I blame XP for it rather than the players. We really need the XP awarded for stealing a uniform to be reduced significantly.

(Splinti) #3

You’re right! When I play CovOps, I always get the enemy uniform, until I’m level 3, because I love to snipe!
To snipe effectively, you have to be lvl 3 CovOp (Breath Control), that means you need 90XP!

These are 30 kills with a scoped weapon or 18 times a stolen uniform… It’s quite clear, I’m going to get the uniform! But of course I never complain when getting shot as a disguised CovOp!

Less XP for stolen uniforms --> less stolen uniforms!!!

i played with a clanmate this night on a 44ppl server and with 22 dudes in
a team being medic is quite funny. you just can’t stick as fast with you needle
as your mates are dropping onto ground. but after lvl4 med it becomes boring
so we both were cvops just disguising and tryings to knife as many allies as
we could get. sure, this is not a common tactic, not even an effective one, but
its some fun

of course there are people who simply don’t know how to play that game, so
it won’t matter whether they’re cvops or ego-medic or even a blind fldops who
continues throwing airstrikes in your back, assuming your eyes can look 360°.

there are much more to blame than just cvops. even engineers can be blamed.
i dont know how often i killed an disguised cvops of my own team with
the rifle grenade, just because you have to aim this weapon somewhat
higher and thus will never make use of ‘crosshairnames’.

and as long as dumb people wont hear your arguments how to play the
game the right way, there isn’t much left than just leaving the server -
unless you like the flame :banghead:

well, what I hate is when those fking smg noob soldiers tk me when im uniformed. I mean i jump, i dodge, i spam “im a covert ops” and run away but they will run to me and kill me no matter what i do. Then they look at your corpse with a goofy face. DOOOOOOH
If you decide to finally shoot them so they wouldnt shoot you then they complain :bored:

If im a covert and see my teammates come around i immidiately turn my back to them and pray they wont hit. But still there are some hard headed 10 y/o noobs that just HAVE to kill you as fast as they can. COME ON EVEN IF I WOULD BE THE ENEMY I COULNT KILL YOU WITH MY BACK TURNED TO YOU. TAKE YOUR TIME AND RECOGNIZE PLEASE! :bored:

or if i get pissed off at the noobs i will go play some AA:O . Noobs rarely visit that game.

perhaps i didnt make my point completely clear, i didnt mean to say covert ops are stupid. Of course they’re fun to play and very valuable for the team when they are not used by clueless players.
But, in some scenarios, a disguised covops just disturbs the teamplay. For example, as i said above, in the battery corridor, the tempo is usually a very quick rush out of spawn-run to corridor-blast all you can-get blasted cycle, because it’s a very narrow area with a lot of people. But the idea is simple: allies are coming through the corridor, axis stop them. If an ally gets past the corridor, it means he’s sneaking in and prolly on his way to the generator, so people shoot him. That’s fair, unless some xp whore decides to stay on axis side with the allied uniform. Then you never know when they’re actually getting through, so you hesitate before firing, and then a) you die or b) you shoot and kill him and get a complaint. And screaming ‘Im a covert ops’ while in this situation doesnt help, because the tempo is so quick and everyone’s screaming ‘Medic’ or ‘I need ammo’ anyway.

An interesting idea for defense against disguised covopsi came up with some friends recently during a lan game. We called it the ‘Thunder/Flash’ technique, a reference to the technique US soldiers used in WW2. Before match begins, the team agrees on a password, one of the rarely used vchats (like ‘Destroy secondary objective’ or something), then, when you run into someone in a corridor or something, you just say it, and the other player must say it too… since its a team only chat, if he’s a covops he won’t respond, so you can shoot him. Of course, this wont work unless all the team agrees on a password and actually using it, otherwise ends up in teamkilling frenzy

I hate it when you get coverts running into “hot zones” (areas where you are expecting allies to come through/from) then file when they get killed.

I mean it’s common sense:

If you run into the bank on goldrush with an allied uniform on, YOU WILL DIE. It’s not the mg42 gunner’s fault, it’s not the flamer’s fault, it’s yours.
They have to make a split second decision whether or not to shoot when they see that uniform, and it’s often the case with things like panzers, flamers and mgs especially that you begin fire before your crosshair even targets the person.

Not only is it pointless and stupid, but its also detrimental to your team. They now have to hesitate everytime someone comes past to check whether hes an enemy, or a dumbass. That hesistation could cost them thier life and subsequently the objective.

So if you dont have an ounce of sense, DON’T PLAY COVERT OPS!

(gonzoboi) #8

fully agree bro :drink:

(K:os) #9

Know what you mean, was on gold rush defending the bank with the MG, then you get your own covert ops come running in uniform and complain when you kill them.

The slightest flash of green gets a few rounds as normally they just chuck in a nade (if enemy) and you don’t get a chance.

If your in disguise for some stupid reason and need to go in the bank spam your a covert ops before you run in!!!

(Sick Boy) #10

This is a cool tac, but totally unnecessary cuz you can spot the CO anyway by the strange behaving nametag or the wrong gun with the wrong clothes. I can even sometimes see it because they are looking at you in such a suspicious way, like ‘I hope he doesn’t spot me’

About friendly CO’s: ofcourse you get killed with a uniform if:
-you are on top af the fueldump building
-running into the bank
-come near any flag
-come near a defense situation in the middlle of a firefight
-have 3HP, cuz every skilled player will shoot you before they are able to make sure you’re not an enemy (because of the late nametag popup)

This is not the skilled players fault, but YOUR fault.
When you have a uniform you should make it perfectly clear to teammates what you are going to do (ie. go to backdoor or go over roof at oasis flag to door), then teammates prolly won’t shoot you. Or you should use your uniform to go around the back of the enemy.

There should be no XP imo for CO’s stealing uniforms, instead there should be XP for them letting people through doors (based on a good rule so it won’t be abused, ie. it doesn’t count when oasis wall is blown up) and increased XP for knifing enemies while in uniform. This will encourage CO’s to use their uniform for the right purposes, and people who basicly suck as covert ops to take another class.

(gonzoboi) #11

Yeah, thats true for close distance, but the Thunder/Flash also works for mid-long distance… any member of the team can call for a GLOBAL PASSWORD CHECK and anyone not responding gets a panzer up the ass!

(BondyBoy007) #12

Why does the Flash/Thunder technique need to be a particular team vsay, when saying any team vsay you have a big exclamation mark above your head - which is visible to only your teamates :banghead:

(Dawg) #13

Exactly what I was thinking, and its a facility I use on those rare occasions when I play CO. Be talkative. The v6 is the common chat, but any team chat will do the job. A little blue exclamation point is all the clue your competent teammates will need!

Yeah, another “XP is evil” post by Kendle!

(Kendle) #15

 Actually I’m quite chill at the moment, had some great games last night without an XP whore in sight, so it’s not all bad. But this particular example does relate to XP wouldn’t you say? What other reason would you give for someone playing Covert-Ops on the defending team when pushed back into their base?

And what’s more to the point, do you honestly believe they’d chose that Class if they didn’t get 5XP per uniform (especially when they don’t necessarily have to kill the guy wearing it in order to steal it)?

(Miles Teg) #16

What other reason would you give for someone playing Covert-Ops on the defending team when pushed back into their base?

They think covert ops are ‘cool’.

:bash:

(Englander) #17

Alot take uniforms for promotion not to get highest XP on the board, the fools are the ones what stay in the their own base with it.

(Kerunch) #18

I actually use the covert ops on allied side in radar for the smoke coverthough to be fair must coverts dont seem to know they have this and also to spot the mines which are generall yleft in abundance around the radar.

(DrGonzo) #19

yeah right, the covop is the lonely wolf who sneaks around corners, blasts command posts, spots mines, stabs enemies without letting the others know, provides sniper cover … hell yeah, covop rocks!! :bump:

(SylverDragon) #20

Another place it seems to be underused is on battery near the boxes to build the ramp. It always amazes the heck of of me that I can have 3 or 4 coverts on my team, and still be hanging out in the open when trying to build the ramp (Ok, so it doesn’t really amaze me, blasted coverts are all sniping or sitting outside the back door having a circle jerk). Any time I play a covert on that map the second thing I do is throw smoke on those boxes to cover my engineers, though often enough my engineers will ignore this in an attempt to get the lower MG built, but I do try. And is it just me, or is that MG usless at best and a danger to your own team at worst?
Though there is some hope, I have seen more coverts, recently, that had something of a clue. Anytime a covert lets me through the team door on fuel depot, I gain some hope. If he lets me through the door on Siwa Oasis, I am usually smiling for hours, or at least until the map ends.
