Er, :???: some para-phrasing and punctuation would be nice, but I think I get what you’re saying.
I assumed it was their server because Machine said:-
in which case they really can do whatever the hell they like in there. Seriously, if people can’t understand this simple concept, that if YOU pay for the server then YOU can do whatever the hell you want with it, well, I give up tbh :banghead:
As for “no right to be there”, yes that’s correct. Even if you’d paid for ET you’d have “no right” to play it anywhere except on servers YOU pay for. Simple as.
That’s not to say the behaviour of these Drunken Soldier peeps was justified. Kicking people off your server probably isn’t a particularly good way to encourage more people to play there, however it is their RIGHT and at the end of the day they can be the biggest assholes they like, and even uses cheats for all I care, as long as they do it on their server and no-where else.
but like i said he had every right to be there unless it was some kinda private party, but then dont you think it be passworded. saying machine had no right to be there is like saying id open up a thread and ask people not to post.
if it was a public server, and they just join there alot, making it no ones property, they had no right to kick anyone, and even if it was their server they open a server up to the public expecting people to come in and play.
but i dunno, i can see both sides. cause it could be there server, and i wouldnt like it if somone did that to me in a server i was paying for. but i dont think he should have jumped hsip and just kicked him. kinda discourages people from goign there.
That is completely wrong. That is exactly the kind of mentality that allows these people to behave like assholes all the time.
But let’s break this down a little.
First off the cost.
As I mentioned before, sometimes people are willing to pay any sum of money to make themselves somehow superior to the rest of the community. I know this because I almost did this once myself. I was about to pay $100 a month for a connection with high upload (for a different reason) but then I realized I was being an idiot. You said you were in a clan yourself and judging by the way you think you must’ve been having the same reasoning while in that clan which means it would suck to be in your server. People pay the money for servers exactly because they feel that gives them the right to behave in the way that you mention which is completely inappropriate.
Adding to the cost issue is the fact which I also mentioned previously, and that is that most of these servers are rented for clans to practice on, and for them to have matches and LAN parties with other clans. Since these tournaments take only a day, and they already paid for the whole month, then might as well make it public. However that second one can be viewed in many different ways.
Next off the player rights.
If you are providing a service to the community, no matter if it’s free or not, you have a responsibility of being courteous and to some degree professional. It is not me breaking into their courtyard, it is them inviting me so that we can play together. How would you feel if a friend invited you over at his house for dinner and then once there he started bullying you and telling you he can treat you anyone you want because you’re in his house now. Emphasis on the word bullying. You might think that’s ok. And of course our civil liberties say that there’s technically nothing wrong with it. But we live in a society, and to make this society/community better it is important that we behave towards each other with respect. If we behave properly towards each other then the society grows and becomes better overall. If everyone starts doing whatever the hell they want, then no one would bother with video gaming (some people already have said no to multiplayer). What if splash damage came in this forum and started to tell us that we couldn’t ask questions about anything anymore, and all our posts had to be praising the game. Sure that’s fair, but it’s not right. Sometimes it is better to be righteous than to be fair. You know public schools? In this case you actually pay for them, but somehow when you’re in there they don’t let you do anything you want. Some countries even force you to come to public schools and then they demand you behave a certain way while in there. How outrageous is that.
In conclusion.
No matter what the circumstances, you still have a responsibility to behave socially towards your fellow man. If I come in your courtyard to play and I start behaving like a prick then by all means kick me out. But just like I come in there and act maturely I expect you to do the same. Many clans use the public to improve their own skills and play better in tournaments. In many ways they need us as much as we need them.
P.S.
Please read posts thoroughly before you reply to them. I constantly get the feeling that people read the first line from a post and then just assume what the rest of it says and they rush to type up a reply.
They took a dislike to you and kicked you from the server. They have both the right and the ability, and there’s nothing you can do about it - regardless of it being lame ass behavior or not. Whining on just makes you look like you need revenge, cant handle it that someone else has power and control over you - even something so trite. Do you even want to play there again?
Firstly Machine, that was a well reasoned and intelligent post, and I agree with most of it, especially the social responsibility to behave in a cordial manner towards your fellow gamers. A pity your previous posts in this thread were banal insulting generalisations…
However, I have to take issue with this:-
I’m sorry Machine, but that is the biggest load of horse-shit I’ve ever read. How on Earth did you come up with that? Clans pay for servers to exercise “power”? Come on, get real, they rent servers to practise and play matches on. And because I was in a Clan you “judge” me to have employed the same reasoning? That statement is so wrong I could write a thesis on the sheer number of ways in which it’s wrong.
Also:-
They’re not necessarily providing a service to the community (although many are, which most people on these forums seem eternally ungrateful for), and they don’t owe you anything, they’re simply leaving their “gate unlocked”.
You can take that as an invitation if you like, but it still doesn’t provide you with any rights whatsoever. You enter their “property” you play by their rules, no matter how shitty they may be, or you go elsewhere. That’s a simple truth I’m afraid, and as reprehensible as some peoples behaviour can be, it remains the case that you, the non-paying public player, have NO RIGHTS WHATSOEVER to play on servers that you yourself haven’t personally, financially, contributed to, or have been assigned such rights by someone who has.
Please refrain from posting such drivel as:-
and:-
and maybe I and others will take your arguments more seriously.
Both of you are partly right. I decided to remind myself what my rights really are as a player/admin.
If you take a look at the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) the following becomes clear:
Everyone has the right to be treated cordially and with decency as it says in Article 5, “No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.” This is independent of where you are, whether it be on the street or on someone else’s server, and even if the degrading treatment comes in a digital form, but ONLY SO FAR as you are lawful (ie. follow the rules of the server).
The admin, on the other hand, does not have absolute power. He does have the right to kick anyone he pleases, for any reason and that is the truth. The admin additionally has the right to make up the rules and to change them as much and as frequently as he pleases if, AND ONLY IF, the rules do not take away from nor harm the player’s human rights as stated in the UDHR.
It is also true that, as stated in Article 19, “Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression”. That is true for players and also true for dickhead admins who are doing junk on their server but ONLY SO FAR as the admin’s words/actions do not take away from the player’s rights as set forth in the UDHR.
If the above does happen that would violate Article 30 “[No person/group has the right to harm or take away a lawful individual’s human rights]”. When that happens the admin gains an additional right as a governing body, and that is the right to be overthrown. Every person under the power of the admin (ie. all the players on the server) gains the right to overthrow the admin if, AND ONLY IF, the players also have no alternate course of action (ie. if they were somehow forced to stay on the server).
I received a warning from Amnesty International about War crimes apparently I was reported for killing defenceless injured soldiers with a knife :blah:
Why shouldn’t they be. I think if people behaved online like they behave in real life multiplayer would be a ton more fun. You’d have no more assholes or annoying children. Then everyone could use teamspeak without it being abused for our daily cursing needs.
of course is someone does break those rules then there’s really nothing you can do about it…so it’s a moot point
This is going to far :banghead: Lets put this into perspective “IT’S A GAME”.Human right issues being bought up in forums about 1st person shooters…Go get a job ,buy a house, raise a family live life a little bit and STFU.Human rights doh! :???:
that’s sad. looks like some of us need to be reminded of the sacrifices, hardships and cruelty that brought about the necessity for human rights in the first place.
the abuse men impose upon men often starts small, even to the point of insignificance. gradually, the abuse increases in magnitude until you forget that you even had rights in the first place.
this game is so great it’s actually bringing about deep philosophical discussions about the nature of the internet and people. How machine and human can work together and be prosperous. People will be reading about this stuff in history books…"…but that was all about to change, for a new game by a small unknown company in some country that nobody cares about since it wasn’t US, would bring about a new revolution. That game’s name was Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory."
People will look back at these forums and say “those were times of real change.” Who knows…they might even build statues of a soldier with a panzer…or a medic with a syringe…or an engineer dissarming someones dynamite so he can plant his own at objective.
All of this because of a man named Hitler who decided one day that he was going to take over the world.
