One thing i do know is to get the best experience from this game youll have to play it on a pc and not a console the way its meant to be played.
How to ruine a superb concept ?!
I agree on evrything this ‘wise old man’ says… (MightySmeagol)
Our beloved game ET is dying, but never in my life i’ve seen a game like this, perfection in many ways…
That’s why any game devloper should have a look at the gameplay/engine of ET.
As old as this game is, its still alive but for how long?
ET is an unique game and thats what it always will be.
So a remake of ET will be great and will get evrybody excited,
Please make one, keep the same maps but put a graphical update too it.
Make that graphical update so that the people which are playing ET still (thumbs up for all of you) can play it, because i think 65% of the ET community has a so called ‘low pc’ which will NOT be able to run at those high graphics… So if there is going to be a new ET they, dont really need to upgrade their PC’s just put evrything on low so its still playable for them.
But make an option for DX9 and DX10 for the vista users with the newest graphics cards
just giving some ideas… please developers listen carefully to those peoples ideas all of them are great and might get some ideas to make the new game which im not sure, you are busy to make it…
too get it to the max level of perfection which ET is at the moment!
I still play ET with the same love i did 2 years ago…
And i have played alot of diffrent games, and i always came back to ET…
Kind regards,
Dirk
well i installed et 2 day,
5 mins later i unilstalled it,graphs mean alot 2 me
was a big fan 4 2 years or so.
for true ET fans u guys have alot of complaints
I like it as is, the only things I would suggest, is multi core support (alotho its not really needed with the low requirements)
better vista compatability(I have lots of friends that stopped when the got vista cause ET wouldn’t run on it)
added voice (like a built in teamspeak)
all the rest is good as is, this would make a minimal download imo, just lots of programming work
instead of a new game, why dont they release some nice user friendly tools to modify the game ourselves, cause gtk radiant isn’t that user friendly to be honest.
I was trying out team fortress 2 recently (steam game) and the map editor on that game is awesome, very easy to use.
then us the community could improve the game to our likings.
The only postive thing that would come of releasing a new ET in the stores, is bringing gamers back to this game, cause some people only play the newest games…
if GTK radiant is not user friendly enough then you need more practice with it. the tools we get to modify the game are the tools the developers use to make the game. These are developer tools for making a complex product so if you are expecting it to be easy then you are mistaken, also I think a lot of people like to think that they cannot make good levels because of the editors difficulties when in reality to be a good designer you need a amount of artistic and technical talent that sets the professional developer from most amateur mappers
also in my experience of using the hammer editor it was very similar to GTK radiant but with multiple axial views, there isnt much i can do in hammer than I cant do in GTK
I’m not saying I can’t use gtk…
you seem to miss the point, I am saying that if the tools were even easier it would encourage more people to do it.
When people ask me how to make maps in ET I say download gtk, and follow the 2bit tutorial. half an hour later they come back saying I don’t get it, I’ll loo at it again some other time…
with hammer in tf2 any “idiot” can use it
and also with ET it’s not just gtk, scripting and shaders can also be dawnting.
and you can make anything with gtk that you can with hammer? ok… make a control point map.
oopsie stuck already, then you need multiple entities and scripting too, not so easy afterall.
I’m not saying its not possible, I have made ctf to 100 points or till map ends, and domination, so I’m sure cp is possible, but not as easy with the ET tools
I guess time told us a lot as ET is still quoted on xfire as 11 th popular game and ET quake wars is quoted on 156 place. Anyway good luck too you all:wink:
I was an avid Xfire user, but once I started playing ETQW I pretty much stopped using Xfire all together.
Those stats may not be all that reflective of how much the game is being played.
pacman comes to my mind as an example. it’s a unique and awesome game. yet every remake i’ve seen so far sucks
wrong.
Pac man was a huge hit, but littered with bugs. It was Mrs.Pac Man that did that game concept justice, and it is still the game used most frequently in “Old School” gaming competition.
However, the changes between Pac Man and Mrs.Pac Man are not that big. You could easily compare them to EtPro -> Et Pub (as a Pub player / server admin I see this as an upgrade).
did you know they were going to call it Puck Man initially, but foresaw potential name adjusting vandalism and went for the Pac instead, fun fact.
anywho.
QW is facinating because of the asymetrical teams, imo it broke the ground for a game like Left4Dead. And the future (bethesda?) project will probably innovate in some other direction. Maybe if SD was a mega corporation with loads of cash and HR assets then they could innovate and itterate. Believe me, if you have to choose only one, you’ll be looking to do something new if you can!
Also, 6 years isn’t long enough, there are 5 more years til the next great Wolfenstein game.
Look at the facts:
1981 - Castle Wolfenstein
1992 - Wolf 3D
2003 - Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
2014 - ???
The OP had a good point in highlighting ET’s strong suit which is the dueling, and I understand his passion, but he should be posting on the Raven forums lol.
